Then you attend Ranger Assessment and Selection Process (RASP- i think thats what it stands for). there you learn to become a Ranger.

guys i am happy to say i can pass the ranger physical fitness test :D been training for a year now and i finally JUST make it.
Nothing to brag about because i can only do exactly 49 pushups and 65 situps. but yes i did it. sad part is i'm fit (muscle) but i have the worst stamina/cardio vascular system of all time. I literally got worse. So i'm now i'm upping my dose of cardio because i'm going to basic next summer. :p
@marc15yo just do alot of sprinting, and distance running. Start out doing 5 miles in 45 minutes for 2-3 months, then work your way down with increasing speed and decreasing time. Also start doing Burpees, Squats, Star Jumps, Jumping Jacks, Squat Thrust, Bicyle Leg kicks, push ups and sit ups with out stopping. that should get your cardio and stamina up.
@TheSpartanHealth yeah I saw alot of marine corp recruits doing burpees and star jumps in the park where I live. But it does get you into shape and teaches your body to handle muscle fatigue.
@USArmyReconScout im not in the army, but anyone can be a ranger even marines, just fill out a ranger application. i believe you also need to be airborne trained inorder to go to ranger school. just ask about how to get into ranger school when you re-enlist/re-new your contract.
@MrDahve no you dont have to be airborne to be in ranger school, it helps but you dont have to, but if you do go and your not airborne, when everyone else is jumping out of planes you will be bused there.

Airborne wears maroon. Personally, black berets look nice, IF YOU SHAPE THEM RIGHT. when you wear them pretty high on the back of your head and tilt them to the right, giving you more flap to work with. It's an Airborne way of shaping berets

The red beret's you speak of are maroon and theyre for the Airborne divisions such as the 81st.
The Airborne wings you earn after completing Airborne can be worn on your uniform whatever unit you're in. But the Maroon beret's are for strictly Airborne units.
I wore the tan beret for 3 years while still in. I did like them although they don't have the heritage of the old Ranger's black. Tan looks sharp when well fitted and clean.

As a Ranger, I disagree. IF you went through our trainning as compared to the regular Army's, you would agree as well.
Rangers are elite infantry and the hardships we endure(d) deserve recognition.
No one is comparing Green and Tan berets, they're tow different soldiers with two different objectives.
The two need each other along with the rest of the military.
Let's not cause division amongst our soldiers.
