I drive an old Subaru hatchback now and would love a wrx but it's just not in the price range and everyone thinks their mods add huge value to their car so im going for a gti instead both great cars though
@SleeperWag The gti is definatly stock, 180 WHP 172 FT lbs of torque, it is a 20th and has a 6 spd transmission, other gti's have 5 speeds, and older gtis have 150 HP versions of the 1.8t, not 180.
@SleeperWag I dunno man, you must be doing something wrong, I have a 24 valve VR and I was dead even with my buddy's 02 wrx, both bone stock. The WRX actually puts down a little less to the wheels than the GTI because of the parasitic loss of the drivetrain and distributing that power between 4 wheels. Granted the VR has 200 hp, as opposed to the stock 1.8t's 180 hp, I would think a chipped 1.8t would at least keep up with a WRX 08 and back.
I own a Mk4 GTI and I love it. But adding a passenger to a car makes a world of difference to acceleration. The WRX probably would have won minus the passenger.
The GTI is a stock 20th AE GTI. Differences is the turbo it has a KO3s instead of a regular KO3. It spools faster and stock has 20 more horsepower, So yes they're probley both stock

I just got a 2008 GTI and I have a friend with the same one and he said that chipping them out turns them into monsters. Said it is a totally different car after you chip it, and if you take it in to the place (JDM I think) they will reset to factory so you can fly under the warranty radar if need be.
No mang- I know what "JDM" is, but there is a company here that goes by a similar name that chips VW's and it's "JDM or JDB" Some shit. I had a bolt-on CRX in 2000 that ran 13's (ZC with JM cams, chipped, bolted, AEM sprockets and the final drive replaced with that of an American Si)

@717Veedubb With no heatshield on the turbo yes, but if that's a bone stock '08 with the heatshield on he'd have to have driven for 400-500 miles for it to really take a 10-15 hp toll on performance.
i own a 1.8T (180 TTQ - 3" DP/uni. stg. 2/etc.) and i've driven the new wrx (which i want to get)
and there is no way a k03/k03s could keep up even with the stock 08' wrx.. a flashed k04 (225TT) could smoke a stock wrx, but even with an accessport, the wrx would be the winner.
btw revo + uni > giac/apr. revo and uni have injector specific files + better BT tunes/flashes.
Tellin you dude, no mods, boostin 9-11 psi at spike, thats stock levels. The WRX's Intercooler was Heatsoaked, thats the only explanation to how well the gti raced against the rex. we were out drivin around for about an hour and a half before this race, so i can only imagin the top mount on the rex was just very hot, and caused it to loose substantial horsepower. I know heatsoak can be bad on GTI's but i cut vents in the fenderwell for my sidemount. This is to the best of my knowledge.

GIAC is raw performance but DEFINATELY wares out your engine alot quicker....I have heard there are problems with the revo chips also....mostly on 2.0ts....That GTI DEFINATELY is not stock....It pulled like the GTI i raced which had a k0 4 and a GIAC tune (very slowly pulled on my STOCK 2006 WRX 2.5t) Dont get GIAC if you commute, shit sucks under lower operation....engine sputters backfires etc....Revo has been making parts for VWS ever sense corrados right?

The 09' WRX is actually quicker than the STi (07 and under models) and it's rated at 265 at the crank with a new transmission from the LGT. The year before that, the 08' WRX was rated at 224.

I ran a 1/4 and got 15.3 @ 89 mph with no mods. My boost that i get from my New south gauge is about 9-10 steady, with spikes at 11-12 psi. And thats with a CAI and a TIP as well (installed after this video was taken). This is to the absolute best of my knowledge. we went back a few weeks later and the WRX beat my car. I think it was just beacause we were out driving all day that his TOP mount intercooler was so warm from heatsoak. thats the only explanation i can offer you is to how i beat him.

Well either way, the 1.8t is a nice little package. I have an 03' 20th (#3004) and it runs very nicely with my new downpipe and uni1+ software.
Last time I ran (I'm not very experienced) I ran a 14.2 @ 103 mph. The software is 550$ and the DP was only 139. Cheap upgrades!

your friend with intake, exhaust and cams isnt as fast as me, the shitty JWT cams only add 8hp Oooooo big deal. a fully bolted b15 doesnt make what i had stock. so yea with 24 more hp and more toque i can shave a 1/2 a second off especially when i can drive my car as good as anyone can drive.

No, not BS. I used to own a 1.8t and now own a Saabaru (WRX).
The fastest stock 1.8t I have seen ran a 14.9 at 95 - that is fast enough for the results above. The 08 WRX is only a 93 mph car in most mags

@717Veedubb With no heatshield on the turbo yes, but if that's a bone stock '08 with the heatshield on he'd have to have driven for 400-500 miles for it to really take a 10-15 hp toll on performance.

i own a 1.8T (180 TTQ - 3" DP/uni. stg. 2/etc.) and i've driven the new wrx (which i want to get)
and there is no way a k03/k03s could keep up even with the stock 08' wrx.. a flashed k04 (225TT) could smoke a stock wrx, but even with an accessport, the wrx would be the winner.
btw revo + uni > giac/apr. revo and uni have injector specific files + better BT tunes/flashes.

Tellin you dude, no mods, boostin 9-11 psi at spike, thats stock levels. The WRX's Intercooler was Heatsoaked, thats the only explanation to how well the gti raced against the rex. we were out drivin around for about an hour and a half before this race, so i can only imagin the top mount on the rex was just very hot, and caused it to loose substantial horsepower. I know heatsoak can be bad on GTI's but i cut vents in the fenderwell for my sidemount. This is to the best of my knowledge.

The 2006 is alot nicer....With the 2.5T and the 5 spd its like a 22b STi, It weighs alot less and has the nice sporty rally look (that subaru should have kept) New subs are Garb.

GIAC is raw performance but DEFINATELY wares out your engine alot quicker....I have heard there are problems with the revo chips also....mostly on 2.0ts....That GTI DEFINATELY is not stock....It pulled like the GTI i raced which had a k0 4 and a GIAC tune (very slowly pulled on my STOCK 2006 WRX 2.5t) Dont get GIAC if you commute, shit sucks under lower operation....engine sputters backfires etc....Revo has been making parts for VWS ever sense corrados right?

The 09' WRX is actually quicker than the STi (07 and under models) and it's rated at 265 at the crank with a new transmission from the LGT. The year before that, the 08' WRX was rated at 224.
Hope this clears a few things up for people.

I ran a 1/4 and got 15.3 @ 89 mph with no mods. My boost that i get from my New south gauge is about 9-10 steady, with spikes at 11-12 psi. And thats with a CAI and a TIP as well (installed after this video was taken). This is to the absolute best of my knowledge. we went back a few weeks later and the WRX beat my car. I think it was just beacause we were out driving all day that his TOP mount intercooler was so warm from heatsoak. thats the only explanation i can offer you is to how i beat him.
