yes i played the guitar on this video but i dont have a webcam. so to shut up a lot of people talking shit, i synched up my recording with an actual recording of alter bridge to prove my timing is right and playing it correctly. ill see if i can find a dvd via torrents.
awesome! youll LOVE the DVD! it definitely lives up to the hype! side note, this is the single most expensive dvd Ive ever bought lol. worth it though!
really like this man, probably the best blackbird solo cover on youtube, i dont supose you could do a video of you playing this slowley and marks solo very slowley lol?
thanks! much appreciated. ive been meaning to get a webcam for so long. just been putting it off. i just got my mark tremonti instructional dvd that came out last week and it cmes with a little tab book of every major solo on the blackbird album. im sure theyll eventually find their way onto the internet. i used a combination of different tabs. i couldnt find one that was all correct. i actually watched this video a ton of times to make sure my hands were in the right place for marks solo.

thanks a bunch! Im actually gettin a webcam in a few days. a lot of people dont think im even playing this since theres no video of me lol. oh well i take it as a compliment. i found some real accurate tabs for this song. want them? i cant decide which one i want to cover next, brand new start or wayward one.
Yes please email them to me. I would appreciate it. I gave you 5 starts by the way. I liked the way it sounds. And lastly I would like to cast my vote for Brand new start.

The playing is good and I liked the sound.
Here's my take on covers. There are two diametrically opposed schools of thought. Some of my best friends and most respected former band mates play covers note for note. When I play bass, I tend to subscribe to this as well. But when I play guitar, I capture a bit of the essence of a song, sometimes not even the right key or progression, and maybe a few signature riffs and just pour my soul out through the leads. Both ways serve a purpose.
Well the thing is, Note for Note is the only thing Im capable of at this point. Im self taught and used only tabs to learn. developed everything myself, and not knowing even a wink of music theory. but i understand what youre saying. i should get caught up soon enough. taking some music theory classes

I'm very impressed with your recording. I'm sure if you want to improvise you will.
When I started playing, a guitarist / teacher showed me some scale patterns. I practiced them like crazy. Then there was (in 1980?) a Guitar Player magazine that showed "Exotic Scales". I found a few I like and practiced them excessively. I don't know if this was a good idea or not, but I can play against just about any progression in any key now, and fairly fast. Just an idea.
So your best advice would be study scales as much as possible? I've started doing that in the past few months. Itough to memorize so many! There are hundreds it seems! Once you have the patterns down, does the speed come naturally? I;m assuming one would want to start slow when learning scales, and speed up progressively over time?
If I havent said it yet, thanks for taking the time to comment. It means a lot to get positive feedback from someone who knows what theyre talking about and someone whos been in music as long as you have. Most of these guys commenting just talk out of their asses in jealousy! Thanks again!
nice! but next time, change the tune a little bit...i know this band AND this song and from my opinion....there's nothing special except the sound quality...if ur gonna do a cover, make it sound just you! don't plagarise someone's work man! but overall, 4 out of 5. have u seen the song called CANON ROCK BY FUNTWO? THEN compared that to Mattrach's cover...if u haven't go watch it type in CANON ROCK FUNTWO OR guitar90
change the tune? what? i keep my guitars perfectly tuned, always. you dont think theres anything special about the song "Blackbird"? We have VERy different taste in music then. Many people, as well as myself think this song is one of the most epic, emotional, powerful rock songs of our current time.
ah...no wonder it's got such a bad rating....oh well...BYE BYE! and oh...not all the people you see on Youtube has the same taste in music as you...THAT IS ALL I WANTED TO HEAR FROM YOU...THAT WAS THE EVIDENCE/REASON you want me to play freebird the real way....so yeh....bye bye! and putang ina mo! tarantado ka! sana mamatay kana!

I Just got a Mesa Boogie Triple Rec, Bogner Uberschall Amp, and Ibanez Tube Screamer. Sounds very similar to Mark's Tone! Still messing with it to find a good tone for ME(inspired by Tremonti of course).
forgot to mention, I didnt get those actual pieces of equipment, I bought them as part of a downloadable tone pack for line 6 recording software. they sound just about the same as the real thing. the bogner sounds amazing. not bad for 24 bucks.
hey man just wanted to say that this is posibly one of the best / epic songs / solos ever made >:) and you have done it complete justice :) much love dude x
thanks man. i agree with the power this song and the emotion. i must have listened to it a hundred thousand times and i dont think ill ever get tired of it! i cant even imagine a new album topping blackbird. mark is truly exploding
mmmm not bad at all... but in my opinion a little bit "dirty"... too much delay and some notes are kinda out of place...but the video was creative i give you that..!!
its supposed to be extremely dirty. you must not have heard mark play live. its crunchy as hell. i didnt attack your 'sound' even though it WAYYYY off. you dont even use a wah for crying out loud.... plus, im not mark tremonti and i dont own 20 thousand dollars worth of gear. sound aside, do you not think i physcially played it well? thanks for the feedback though
I've just watched omarzinho3's version of this, and given the amount of bullshit you were spouting about his I was expecting you to sound like Mark himself... You didn't and this was BLOODY AWFUL. No feeling in it at all.
I dont know what to tell you, other than you must have terrible ears. I know for a fact that im the only one who plays it correct and without errors lol. Maybe my "sound" isnt there but the technicalities damn sure are. So by that, Im' assuming your defenition of a cover is to fuck up the original song beyond recognition and change it completely. I feel differently. Thats just sad for you. By the way... wheres YOUR cover? Yeah...
My definition of a cover is to play someone else's song your own way. It shouldn't sound exactly the same. If I saw a band playing someone else's song exactly the same as the original, I would ask myself why I bothered coming... If I saw them play it in their own way I would most likely enjoy it. Sadly I don't have the talent to play a rendition of this song worth posting, but then my issue isn't with your level of talent, it is simply that you flame others who are clearly better musicians.
You got me there. But I dont hide the fact that Im a terrible musician. I know I suck and cant write a song. The way I learned was looking up tabs. That's it. No lessons or anything, just struggling to play. I dont know the first thing about music theory. I know only 5 scales and maybe 20 chords, but I can sit down and learn the tab to just about anything. So naturally when I hear a badass song, I want to duplicate it, not play along and make my own up, because I'm simply incapable right now.
That was the attitude I was expecting from you... is the same attitude I take when some people make critisism to me... Knowing that we're not the best, at least we can learn and move on... I congratulate you for accept your position musically talking... AND men you did a great job given to the amount of knowledge that you said you have in music... let us know that first next time so we can be fair in our critisism.
But to set the record, this was my absolute first real recording of anything. And me being a perfectionist, and given the way I learned, I naturally wanted to replicate it as close as possible. I learned several different way to play it, but I cant improv whatsoever. Well I'm satisfied and proud of it regardless of how much negative BS I get about it. Like you say, be fair, but dont sugarcoat the truth! Thanks
One other thing, The Blackbird album has really had a big impact on my motivation to practice. I think I like them so much solely because of Mark. I honeslty dont care for Myles' Voice or guitar playing. His improvs are horrible. I even cut the solos out of every song ever(creed too) with a Tremonti solo, and pasted it into one mp3(17 min of constant Solos). After Creed, he was "set free" and had no limitations. I think everyone would agree that Alter Bridge is getting better with time.
yeah that's right Mark has no limitations in alter bridge...that's such a great thing haha we can learn more of his playing... in july he'll be releasing an instructional video so if you can get it you can learn more about his playing...and if it exist anything that I can Help you to improve your playing just let me know... obviously I'm not as good as other people but my desire to help is honest...
I heard about it but I thought it was already released. I have searched everywhere for a DVD but apparently it isnt here yet. I bought a 2004 Issue of Guitar Magazine with Mark on front. Inside he spills his shredding secrets and also lets you see the warmups(in tab form) he does before showtime, and who he was into as an amatuer, things like that. I'm pretty obsessed! You want a copy of that 17 minute nonstop Tremonti solos mp3? (NO MYLES VOICE!) haha
hey. i have something you may be interested in. i was messing around with my recording software and found a way to take out marks solo in blackbird. its like a stereo to mono trick(although his guitar isnt 100% muted, more like 90%) if you listen super close you can hear it. let me know if youre interested. oh and it works with just about every alter bridge song. u can play along to it or even record and overlap ur own solo in with the real song!
cool edit pro 2.0, along with Line 6 Gearbox for amps, cabs, and the effects loop. i dunno how popular it is but i think its badass. you can download it for free as a torrent but you have to illegally license it to yourself lol.
I used cool edit pro once...but like 3 or 4 years ago...is not that bad... we have a saying down here in mexico... "is not the arrow, is the indian" dunno if makes sense to you...but what I'm trying to say is: No matter if you have the best or worse equipment, depends of you to make it real!!
well you may have a point, but certain programs ARE better than others. theres no question about that. In America, you get what you pay for. the more expensive stuff is always better. But you are right, the best equipment is worthless if you dont know how to use it!
well I have put recording on hold until I buy a decent webcam. I'm still recording audio though, just for practice. I've found a solo tone that I'm happy with. It may be a week or two or more. But my next cover will definitely be something by Alter Brige. I can play half of Ahavo Rabo Taco Salad but I dont want to publish it because my whammy bar is broken. It just doesnt sound right wihtout it. I'll let you know when theres another.
My problem right now is this: when I choose a song I want to learn, I want to learn it note for note. So, when the final product is out, its basically the exact same song I was aiming for, but then everyone says, YOU SUCK FOR COPYING IT EXACTLY. Where's the logic in that? If I can play something exactly the way a badass rockstar plays it, how does that mean I suck? Whats the purpose of tabs, if not to learn the right way to play certain songs exactly?
In my opinion dude play the song exactly note for note as you said is the best cover ever... but Tabs are not trustable (is that a word?? sorry for my english haha) I don't trust in tabs 'cause their not exactly as the song... unless the real artist transcribe it for a magazine or for sale to the fans... but play the song exactly it is possible...
Youd be suprised how many people Ive come across that are exactly the opposite, and think a good cover isnt supposed to be as close to the original as possible. I am like you, I feel like if I can play something the way the artist played it, then thats a true cover. And in my video, I didnt use tabs to learn this version that I uploaded. Tabs for this particular show do not exist. I just watched Mark and Myles play. You can clearly see 99% of the notes. There are slight variations throughout it.
yeah men! well keep it up that way... I'm going back on tremonti's career and play Creed's stuff...the weathered cd I'm gonna try to play every single song
