this place heaves for like 8 seconds, and that's it, then it turns into a big mush bugger. it takes a BIG swell for it to hold up and break longer...this place is nothing compared to JAWS or shipsterns, imho

@socksworn Anyone who worries about warm water, weather, and scenery when it comes to big wave surfing isn't much of a big wave surfer. Waimea is beautiful. I've been there and I agree. But Mavs, Todos, Cortes, Jaws, et al make up in size and heaviness what they lack in photogeneity. Ultimately, big wave surfing is about big waves. F**k the other crap.

like almost every single big wave surfer said the heaviest break they surfed was peahi on maui, and a few also said waimea

i cant really judge 2 much cuz i cant handle big wave surfing..not trained to do it...and not crazy enough for it lol

one thing i gotta say though is i got respect for big wave riders past, present, and future

@socksworn Can't really argue with that! Hawaii is basically the Garden of Eden when it comes to surfing. Can't imagine how amazing it was in the 60s and 70s before it got crazy crowded.

there is no way mavericks resembles anything like Florida. That wave was at least 25 feet and this spot holds 40+ easy. Plus the water is about 48-50 degrees which is about 40 degrees colder than Florida. Not to mention the massive great whites lurking in the depths
