Although I was not in the Pride until 1971 through 1973, the marching style remained the same. We were a unique Marching Band and really proud of it. The many hours spent at Pride Field preparing for performances were brutal, but now they don't seem so bad. Thanks for sharing and allowing us to re-live those great years at USM.
Not sure if we'll go back to this field entrance, but we do have something similar to it now. It was drill designed last semester (fall '08) by DMA graduate student, John Martin. He incorporated some traditional moves, and of course, our now traditional pre-game cheers, Alma Mater, National Anthem, and Battle Hymn. John is also trying to get someone to record all home (and possibly away) games just so that Southern Miss Bands can have an archive of past shows. I think it's a great idea.
it is really amazing how much marching bands have evolved since back then. This was a nice treat to see something from so long ago. thank you for posting. :]
I borrowed the film from Ray Young when I was teaching at North Forrest in Hattiesburg ... and bad self never returned it for 30 years! I finally had it converted to DVD and a friend posted it on here for me. I love it - drum corps has taken over everything ... not such a great thing, huh? Were you in the Pride?

How great we can all see this and stroll down memory lane! I do miss the red coats, though!

Maybe someday decades from now someone will hit upon this style again and think they've created something! Who is your dad? Was he in the band?

This was filmed at USM, not Senior Bowl, so I'm assuming it was Dave Waite, a communications dept. person that announced most of our home games.

The voice has to be Jimmy Morris
