I like your explanation. But I think you got what a feel as opposed to having a groove is. A feel changes the actual note worth, but a groove is simply how a rhythm is presented, stylistically speaking. The question would be to ask is if Funk is meant to have a straight feeling or that swung note that you demonstrated, I'm not sure. I apologize if i'm nit picking; many times in a band setting you just go with what is better to play to be consistent with the music's presentation.

I totally agree with him on his statement about fast funky grooves....they don't sound very funky really....just like a bass player who plays super fast funky licks, they just don't have a groove......it's fine if you're playing something heavy and thrashy but it doesn't work for the funk in my opinion, ....Listen to the drumming on early James Brown or Meters records......that's what it's all about !!
