  • @RosettaStoned you do know that 1) this guy's dead and 2) from 1991...right?

  • Yes sometimes he sings off-key and sometimes horridly, but the song still rocks and I enjoy ever second of it.

  • @TheRosettaStoned you need to let go of that anger from your uncle touching you dude

  • @entirelyfakename you mother sucks nigger asshole

  • Listened 'cause a friend suggested it. He'd led me to expect good guitar playing, not barely relieved straight, square downstroking. Guess this is good to him. Vocals sound strained. This has potential, though, with some guitar & voice study.

  • @BluegillGreg I hope you have cancer

  • @BluegillGreg

    oh god

  • this fucking sucks. these guys should be made to stop. Put them in jail, for sucking

  • @TheRosettaStoned Your opinion is going to change everyone's mind. Especially with an oh-so-clever username like that.

  • @HellolzEveryone I dont give a fuck about changing your mind..... listen to fucked up nasty shit for all I care....

  • @TheRosettaStoned

Keep getting mad at good music and looking like an idiot for all we care.

    :3

  • @TheRosettaStoned Just out of curiosity and interest, what kind of music do you like?

  • @HellolzEveryone start with RUSH!!!!!

  • @TheRosettaStoned Dude, chill out.

  • Fuck, I already saw a two-headed boy or alien in arsenic !... This song is freacking my out !!! HOW THE HELL DID THEY COME UP WITH THIS TWISTED SONG ! They should named their band THE FOUR TWISTED HEADS CREEPS !... I just noyice the name of the band !... really weird !... They are still dreaming of their mummy's breast or what ?... They should get in a group therapy as fast I possible... I think.... but yet who am I ?... just a mam !

  • @misspetedoherty relax, my friend. just take a few deep breaths. its gonna be okay.

  • @misspetedoherty take your pills mam.

  • Children, children, children. There is no right answer to the meaning of this song. It's open to interpretation - Jeff wanted it that way. I for one believe that it is about the two heads of a boy - his face, and the head of his penis. How men sometimes do stupid things by thinking with the wrong head.

  • This song is my life...

  • Listen to this high, it explains the song better. Basically its about siamese twins but on half dies. And about how the other lives on and(in part two) about his later life

  • @brenx89 That's total bullshit any you sound like a faggot with your 'hurr listen whilst high 420 smoke weed everyday' shit.

  • @TheAfrorasta actually, I rarely smoke. You really shouldnt make judgements on a person based on one thing. Ive only smoked a few times. The fact that you went so overboard and automatically assumed I am a pothead is immature and ridiculous. The time i was high and listrned to this it made sense to me. My explaination still does. I'm not trying to tell anyone to smoke. I'm just saying that if you do, this is a great song to listen to high. So before you make ignorant opinions, don't.

  • @brenx89 Seriously? -__- It's about the boy in the family that hid Anne Frank. On the outside, he was a Nazi like most Germans, but on the inside he had a crush on Anne Frank.

  • @BVSuperman Have you read Anne franks diary? There was no boy on the inside that was also a Nazi. And most Germans weren't Nazis. I've read the book. Your hypothesis is completely innacurate. Don't give me a staleface and tell me I'm wrong unless you can back it up.

  • @brenx89 I'm not disagreeing with you for the most part but a LARGE chunk of Germans at the time followed the Nazi ideology, those that didn't were generally dealt with. And ever heard that songs can have more than one meaning? @BVSuperman Hell this is like arguing over what a Jackson Pollock painting is supposed to be. The lyrics are mostly nonsensical, why argue over them?

  • the on in red looks like conor oberst

  • @gossamer999 I disagree

  • First time I heard this song, I was like, yeah, this is pretty good. It came up enough times on shuffle that I started to wonder, "what the fuck is this song about?". So I looked up the meaning of the song. And then I listened to it again. I have not listened to anything else in three days. Even my favorite songs from before seem devoid of meaning now. I this is the best song ever written, and if you don't like it, well, enjoy life without a soul.

  • they look awesome

  • Do you guys actually know what dudes talking about in the lyrics?

  • @MrSupertarded i almost thumbed down your comment... then i read your name

  • This song is amazing.

  • I kinda like that he can't really sing because it makes it so raw :)

  • I wish people would stop arguing over who likes them more or whether or not they like this song. Either enjoy it, or find a song that you do. Amazing song by the way.

  • I agree...the singing is raw emotion...and rare to find. Be thankful he bared it for us 8)

  • best song on the album

  • @Carsonapolis that's actually at the end of Oh Comely that a producer shouts "hoLY SHIT!!" because Jeff and the trumpet player nailed it all in one take :)

  • @idiotsrus92 Oh fuck, I never noticed this before. AMAZING.

  • WHO FUCKING SAID JEFF CAN'T SING. HIS VOICE IS THE VOICE OF A GODDAMN ANGEL. I CRY MYSELF TO SLEEP EVERY NIGHT, NAKED AND IN A FETAL POSITION, WITH MY ITAOTS RECORD SLEEVE CLUTCHED TO MY CHEST WHILE I LISTEN TO TWO HEADED BOY.

  • @MrSupertarded

    Wow. Your life sucks.

  • @laffin2much ill fuck your mouth

  • @laffin2much Can you not feel the emotion when he says CATCHING SIGNALS THAT SOUND IN THE DARK WE WILL TAKE OFF OUR CLOTHES AND THEY'LL BE PLACING FINGERS THROUGH THE NOTCHES IN YOUR SPINE!!!!!!

    KASHLKAGULKFGGFGFHKIGDKGL.!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @laffin2much What were you listening to you stupid fuck

  • @laffin2much

I wouldn't expect too much from a guy who enjoys Breaking Benjamin.

  • @MrSupertarded lolwut ?!

  • @MrSupertarded I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE...

  • @MrSupertarded i literally lol'd

  • @MrSupertarded lmao

  • @MrSupertarded you just caused snot to flow from my nose mouth and quite possibly a tad of anal leakage I was laughing so hard

  • the decemberists brought me here they kidnapped me and made me watch this

  • "spirals of white over your eyelids" I'll just assume he's talking about a facial.

  • :)

  • @aavindraa learn to appreciate all music for what it is.

  • @aavindraa well done, buddy. now go sit on your fist.

  • @aavindraa What the fuck do you know? The term "Mediocre" is objective, I mean Nirvana didn't have crazy complicated guitar riffs yet they forever captured the hearts and imaginations of millions with their mysterious but indisputable appeal. Maybe you should look a little deeper or shut the fuck up every once in a while before making a judgements about shit you CLEARLY are not qualified to judge.

  • @aavindraa lick me where I pee

  • Saw a kid in the hospital today with a rare genetic syndrome today and thought of this...

  • "Yeah I think Jeff is a great singer, so what?!

  • I was listening to The Dresden Dolls... and I think to myself, this girl sounds like Jeff Mangum... And then I realised it was a cover of this song xD

  • I heard theres a part at the end of this song where the producer yells "FUCK!!!!" or something because he got perfect on the first recording :,)

  • Really great.

  • *vocal note*

  • Freakin' love this song, but I hate that last note of the first verse that's just too long.

  • you dont just listen to a few Neutral Milk Hotel songs. You're either the biggest fan or you dont get it.<3

  • perfect

  • Personally, I was reading a cute, romantic short story about an alternative kid and a jock, and one of the characters mentioned this as a favorite band, and I thought the name was interesting so I looked it up. But it was my decision to take an interest and type in the words. So really, both sides are right.

  • @Meowrimi though I highly doubt it, that story didn't happen to be a comic called Honeydew Syndrome would it?

Even though it's an overused plotline I was just wondering if they were the same, heh.

  • @Meowrimi What's an alternative kid? An alternative to what?

  • I want to like the I just cant..

  • It would be good if they got a real singer. This guy just doesn't have any vocal talent or ability. The rest of them sound amazing though. I suppose we'll see what happens.

  • @thesuperrealthing I'm sorry, but you're an idiot. Jeff is the creative force behind NMH, and without him they'd be garbage.

  • @jmcgrail821 Lyrics: Superb. Musicianship: Stellar. Songwriting: Magnificent. Jeff Mangum: Eh.

And the only thing I can say that about is his voice. He would make an absolutely out-of-this-world producer, but his forte is not in singing.

  • @thesuperrealthing there is so much feeling in his voice, you must not have a soul if you can't figure that out.

  • @jas1n Of course there is, that's his only saving quality. But the majority of feeling is getting lost in translation while he fumbles around notes and pitch. I'm not saying the band is "stupid" or "weird" while I bump Gucci Mane or something, there's a reason that NMH is the influence that they are. What I am saying is that it is frustrating watching them hang out at C-Level while they could be making A-Grade music.

  • So beautiful.....

  • There's no shame in having something bring you here, but there's no pride in it either so stop making it your comment.

  • This is real music.

Music, this generation, has no meaning or taste to it. /: all that matters to people is the catchy beat. But me, I like the lyrics. And lyrics that speak to me. Remember when music changed people? And peoples lives? Remember when music was written to make the world a better place. Now its all about big bootys and money and cars. I wish people would recognize an artist for their creativity and lyrics and poetry and art! Not because they can rhyme fast..

  • @LoveDies1995 remember when pointless nostalgia for a time that never really existed consumed the lives of idiots everywhere? yeah me too

  • @LoveDies1995 your awesome

  • So good... I got into this band after watching the mountain goats cover this :)

  • /mu/ brought me here

  • AJJ did it better

    deal with it /mu/

  • this song and all there song make me happy to be alive

  • Jeff is possibly one of the best songwriters I've ever heard.

His voice isn't perfect, sure, but when does that matter when he's making stuff like this? :D

  • @Perrpel John Darnielle of the Mountain Goats.

  • @LibraHorse1 No doubt! John is the absolute man!

  • Jeff Magnum, the most talented former musician to ever become a clerk at Target.

  • @pawpawnorth i want to go to that target and pay him to sing this song

  • @pawpawnorth What?

  • @pawpawnorth Jeff Mangum you idiot.

  • i took my blog name from this song... its the greatest thing ever.

  • awesome!!!! 548,626 views... well more 48,626 ive clicked replay about 500,000 times

  • LEGEND. I cant say anything, just legend.

  • Well some people might say Jeff can't sing. The thing is, he isn't singing. He is pouring his fucking soul out (:

  • Hear this is supposed to be a good song of the greatest album ever.

Currently cringing at how terrible this guy is at singing.

    Feeling deceived.

  • @noahballs Going through every Neutral Milk Hotel video and posting your already established negative opinion isn't informative, it's obnoxious.

  • @noahballs SHUT YOUR MOUTH. IMO Neutral Milk Hotel is amazing. Unless you're a big fan of Rebbecca Black, I don't trash on whatever shit you listen to. Please, for the love of whatever ideology is correct, if you don't have something useful to say, then don't say anything.

  • @mrdummiepants Implying any criticisms, negative or otherwise, are automatically unuseful automatically shows me the unusefulness of your post.

  • @noahballs Music is subjective, just because you don't like it doesn't instantly make it crap. I can't imagine any other style of singing working in this band.

  • @noahballs this album polarized critics and normal listeners when it first got out.. but now a majority of them consider it a classic..same goes fr the first few zepp albums.. and king crimson's 'in the court of the crimson king'.. and suicide's 'suicide'.. though mst of these albums didn't shine in the first listen, ppl started to realize there's something more to the music than they thought.. so apparently, they're GROWERS. i'm sorry to say u're missin somethin in this music that others don't.

  • Most of you are really stupid, "Indie" is NOT a genre of music. It's simply a label. Such as a smaller label where you don't have to play any specific sort of genre of music. You basically play whatever you want. Neutral Milk Hotel can release a rap if they want to. They would be more classified as folk or singer/songwriter. Just trying to clear everything up for people.

  • This album kicks so much ass it's not even funny

  • I can't get enough of this song right now

  • Andrew Jackson jihad does a mean cover of this

  • @TomPirate1 I heard his, it's great. The Mountain Goats did one too. Too bad there are few good sound quality of videos of their cover.

  • @16piller16lol jessey lacey does a good cover of this and oh comely

  • 2:30 to about 3:05 of this song has consumed my life. 24/7 for months now I hum that song and sing it in my head. It haunts me. I can hardly go an hour without thinking about it. But hey, I can't think of a much better song to get hooked on.

  • what the hell is parks and rec?

  • @PunkymickBlah Parks and Recreation is a TV show.

  • You guys don't understand: this is like, seriously about me. Like, about my life and stuff.

  • @MrLeo160 you're also in love with anne frank?

  • Indie is horrible.

  • @NoMooreMercy please explain

  • @NoMooreMercy Everything is indie from the start. So all music is horrible?

  • @mojination Your logic is too deep for me.

  • i like how none of the comments on this video (at lest none that i see) are immature, stupid comments like "58 people should suck my cock" or anything like that :)

  • I was on Omegle and I asked people, what would be best indie band for me to listen. They said it's Neutral Milk Hotel. Now I understand that they were right.

  • just wondering why this band has 4 people? seems like a guy with a guitar

  • @ndrach1 Their other songs incorporate other instruments..

  • Thumbs up if you brought YOURSELF here.

  • I've always liked this just makin it official. In cyberspace.

  • @DenkouSoshiatae Nope. Will Grayson x2 brought me here!!! :)

  • @DenkouSoshiatae A completely silly notion, you can't bring yourself anywhere without association with other things. It doesn't matter if you found it playing Postal 2, watching National Geographic or through your recommendations on last.fm, something brought you here. If you meant to say "I was brought here by something I consider to make me a better human being than other people" then just say that.

  • @gggr8 Um... dude? Chill, please? There's no need to argue, just sit back and listen to the music.

  • @DenkouSoshiatae I simply tire of people pretending that whatever way they used to find a certain song makes them more of a connoisseur than the next one.

  • @gggr8 Are you serious? You're bagging on my for saying I am a fan who types in "two headed boy neutral milk hotel" instead of talking about how some super hit TV show introduced me to it? If that's the sort of stuff you worry about in life then I'm out. Peace.

  • @DenkouSoshiatae I'm on your side. /:

But, it bothers me when people fight over how they found the music or who found it first. And, some people just had the fortune to come across the music by chance. I happened to learn of NMH through an ex who not only gave me this wonderful band, but a great attitude about it; shut the fuck up and enjoy the music. It's supposed to bring people together, not tear them apart. And this idiotic musical superiority complex is doing just that.

  • @megandoesntlikeyou Yes, I see no reason to ever argue on a youtube video. It's a bit childish seeing as the videos are meant for watching, not comment-reading. I probably should never have responded to them in the first place. Enjoy the music people \m/ ( ^ - ^ ) \m/

  • @DenkouSoshiatae Yes, because I see no actual difference between either of them. It doesn't matter if you found it because you are a fan or if you briefly heard it played one time in a TV commercial, you're both listening to the same thing and enjoying it and that's what actually matters.

Also yes, internet superiority complex bugs me, no it does not make me sleepless at night. Are you saying that everything you care and worry about is on world-going-to-end-level seriousness?

  • @DenkouSoshiatae I would've brought myself here (after all, it's my second favorite Neutral Milk Hotel song, besides "Holland, 1945") if it weren't for an actual two-headed girl I looked up on IMDB.

Nevertheless, it's still a really good song.

  • @amberlover678 Watch the episode "Road Trip" (I think it's the second to last episode in Season 3). They don't play Neutral Milk Hotel, but Tom forces members of the parks department to participate in some trial for a stupid game show idea that he came up with. Andy ends up getting upset with April for saying that Neutral Milk Hotel is her favorite band instead of Mouserat, which is his band.

  • this is the first song i heard by this band.

  • Don't all boys have two heads?

  • and through the music he sweetly displays, in the dark we will take off our clothes

and they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spine. i will take you and leave you alone. i will wait until the point when you let go.
