  • I wonder why the original sounds better, does he require some extra equip to replay that song? Otherwise he plays like a drunk here.

  • @FooNado : Like a DRUNK ? More like a man possessed.

  • Love Jeff Beck<3 This song could be used at a strip bar? lol

  • drunk!!

  • brilliant song by a fantastic player.

  • he's making a statement

  • note the pink shirt

  • Back in the day, it's still the same. Picasso of Electric Guitar.. The only thing that has changed is the floating bridge

  • I was never really a Jeff Beck fan...until just recently, when I listend to a mix a friend of mine did for Jeff's re-release on an Ultra CD on Mofi's label.......and I just sat their dumbfounded.

And the idiot I am, I thought Larry & Steve wrote The Pump (which I first heard and loved on their album - No Substitutions /2001). Mr. Beck.....you rock! Next time I'll read liner notes more carefully!

  • @mazsenior I think this song has been written by Simon Phillips and Tony Hymas

  • @mbellino I read that it was Max Middleton, the drummer on Blow by Blow album of 1975.

  • @strandwolf er...keyboardist, not drummer.

  • @strandwolf

Hello, is very interesting what you are saying. I did a small research also related to de "Risky Business soundtracks" and it says that was written by Tony hymas and Simon Phillips, both uncredited, of course performed by Jeff Beck.

In the Steve Lukather CD titled "Luke" he plays this song (The pump) and there indicates that was written by Phillips and Hymas.

  • In the Larry Carlton & Steve Lukather "No substitution" Cd they play this song and indicates that belongs to Phillips and Hymas.

So, I still believe this song belongs to them. I did not saw this song in the "Blow by Blow" album.

  • @mbellino it's not on "Blow by Blow" ..it is on "There and Back" lp

  • from THERE AND BECK ... now THAT was an extraordinairy recording when it was published. amazing! this tune's one of my alltimefavs! always feel like sitting in an aeroglider ... TOP BRILLIANT

  • Jan Hammer looked PISSED right at the end...I'm gonna guess a bad monitor..

  • Have they officially released the ARMS concert form this venue in 83 at MSG in NYC?

    Anyone know ?

  • yyyyyeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!

  • Use only the two outer springs on the trem, and locking tuners.

  • This is one of my fav's, it reminds me of playing Frizbee in the summer when the album came out.

  • He only picks up the guitar when he runs out of money for his hot rods!!That,s terrifying to us mere mortals!!

He makes a mockery of these rack filled high tech shred wizards,I think i,ll take up playing the spoons!!

  • This kinda thing is why you should set up your whammy bar to float AND stay in tune :-)

  • That was one BIG slice 'o' NICE. I'm a fan of Beck's entire career, but this is probably my all-time favorite track. The Larry Carlton / Steve Lukather version was amazing, but no one beats Beck. NO ONE. Thanks for posting.

  • Does anyone know the origin of this video? Is it available on DVD? Thanks...

  • Jan Hammer on keyboards before he did the music for Miami Vice, Wow they were the days!!

  • and (young) Simon Phillips on drums - who wrote this track together with Tommy Hymas. What a Lineup!;-)

  • I was at both shows in NYC. I forgot just how good these concerts were. Still have my ticket stubs.

  • Beck got all of that one.

  • Jeff without a whammy? And miss out on all those wonderful micro tones? But if that's your desire it's not hard to find. if you want to hear Jeff playing a very different style get his tribute to Cliff Gallup album with the Big Town Playboys

  • I'd say that whammy pretty much defines his style now. Can't see him w/out it.

  • would like to hear Jeff Beck without a wammy bar ;)

  • Check his work with the Yardbirds, or the albums Truth or Blow by Blow. There's a great clip of him doing she's a woman on his paul up on here too.

  • Beck is a killer

  • W jeff beck !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Those keys sound pretty dated. But man that Jeff Beck can play!

  • Best version of the pump on any medium. All systems were go on this one. Incredible guitar playing.

  • Major league kick ass. Dripping with mojo...
