Looks pretty good. Take a look at my video and let me know what you think of my mechanics. I'm a natural SS, but I've been pitching more lately. Top out at 85, and trying to add velocity. Aside from bulking up, any suggestions on form?
Stay on top of the ball, raise your arm slot. that might help. And he is throwing a change up. You can tell my his hand position on the baseball, and his follow through.
stride a little more closed for a little bit longer, by closed i mean to face the outside of the left foot twoards the target a little longer, wait until the last second to face your toes twoards, everything else looks good
it looks great everything looks good, i would say to keep your head up the whole time, even as your bring your leg up before your stride to plate you drop your head but if that works good for you dont change it. good job
I'll say you something; when it looks good, it means it is.
What makes it efficient? timing, fluidity, being smooth. What makes it good looking? The same as for a dancer: timing, fluidity, being smooth.
More technically, being fluient means you do not start and stop movement; your moves are reactions to others. It prohibits you to stop moves. To stop moves, you need to take the energy somewhere. If not the ball, it will be yourself.
You probably realize this but you are standing up to straight. Since you throw from an overhand arm slot it would be important to get your chest out front. You still get out on your front knee without bending at your waist much which tells me that you could lengthen your stride out a bit, but you would have to get out front and down.
great mechanics, but try pitching more downhill. it seems as if your arm has to overcome your front leg. this is just a minor suggestion but maybe try using your front leg as the fulcrum and really power over your leg instead of finishing behind it.
sorry to say but not very good mechanics ... for one too slow ad robotic . bet this guys doesnt throw very hard , no leg drive , stands way to tall , no momentum towards home plate... needs a longer stride and the back leg kick welll there really wasnt one ...
you know all you haters, if you so damn smart, why aint ya rich? and second, what's up with everyone bein a master critique artist...just get out there and get it done. it's just that simple
Not bad, but I suspect you learned "Tall and Fall" mechanics, circa 90's Tom House. I like everything except for your leg lift; think about "drifting" into footplant rather than lifting straight up. Lead with the hip/backside, generate some momentum into footplant - it will take strain off the arm. You have good hip/torso separation.
fopo4, there is no such thing as overstriding. if anything, it could be longer. just ask tim lincecum (height: 71" stride: 86"). stride seems a touch closed off, and you really need to open it up. your lead heel should finish OUTSIDE your heel on the rubber. do not straighten your arm. keep it in a continuous circle. in your finish, you should have a flat back. you're leaving a lot of velocity out there.
Trying to pretend you a smacking a midget on the head when you throw, this will better your release point. more movement and velocity. get over that front leg!
You are doing a lot of good things. Try moving your "fanny" towards the plate much sooner and don't tuck your glove. The chest goes to the glove, not the other way around...go to the National Pitching Association for more information. Correct those two mechanics and watch your pitching improve.
Pretty delivery aside from dropping ball hand nearly straight down at the beginning and scrunching head downward. Perhaps a tiny bit of overstriding. Follow thru needs work as you turn too far to your left at the end. Whether you land slightly heel or toe first or flat is trivial.
I'm just throwing out nit picks. Pitcher does a lot of things right. Is this a college pitcher?
Nice video , keep doing whatever works for you. Imagine what people would have said about Dontrell Willis' form if they saw it before he made it big .Thanks.

Son, your video has many good points. But stopping at the top and pausing is costing you velocity AND slowing down anything causes control problems. Too much can go wrong. Another thing I would recommend is that you need to be moving your hips toward the target even as you are raising your leg. The best examples of this on google video would be Ford, Feller, and Ryan. HOF pitchers. You will not go wrong watching Lincecum, Oswalt and Sabathia.
it would be better for you others to worry about yourself more than putting to much shit in his head, unless your the best pitcher in the game. Everybody has something different that works for them. A twigy bloke could throw 10 times harder than a muscly 120kl bloke if he has his perfect pitch worked out, how about he just throws and throws untill its naturall

I'm thoroughly impressed. I gotta disagree with nigtwig though, don't keep your weight back, keep your momentum to the plate, throw your hips as soon as you start raising your leg. Forget a balance point, just go. Break your hands later as it allows your arm to speed up as it tries to catch up to your body. Bury your shoulder as you finish the pitch, it helps to decelerate your arm and avoid injury.
Break your hands a tad later, as late as possible. Momentum home is the key to velocity. No pausing, no hesitations. The faster your entire sequence is from start to finish will immediately garner you 5-100mph. Just when you think you are going fast, try going faster. Your lead foot is pointing up, point your toes down so that you land on the balls of your foot and not your heel. Make sure you are striding out at least your body height.
Trying to make your pitching motion as quick as possible will only cause your accuracy to be thrown off. Look at Sandy Koufax. He had a slow motion, and yet still threw 95 AFTER taking some heat off his fastball! Plz DO NOT post comments that show misleading/wrongfull information that youth pitchers may take. That could cause injury/permanent damage, and could even RUIN their career, if they plan to pursue it!
you guys are somewhat wrong, and definately misleading. Keeping your weight back causes velocity. Releasing that weight at the right time (halfway through the stride/as long as you can keep your weight back), will cause your body to plunge towards homeplate, making you pitch more "explosively". <---THAT CAUSES VELOCITY IN A SAFE MANNER.
how old are you? you have good mechanics....you keep your weight back and that makes you a more powerful pitcher. im a college pitcher and i still have some things i need to work on. one thing you could do is try to drive off of the mound harder. really drive through and kick up your back leg.
Good but it can be better
If you want to take yourself to the next level: Take a longer stride, and rotate your hip more.
That's about it.

There sure are a lot of "experts" who like to nit-pick pitching and hitting mechanics.
If my boy looks like this on the mound when he is older, I will be very happy.

1. you never come to the loaded position
2. you throw the ball with your back foot already off the ground, aka no push off aka no power
3. reach out in your release!
around in 29 seconds looks like good form, but from there keep that back foot down and rotate the hips to release

You have a good motion, BUT
if theirs a guy of first base or second or maybe even third
that leg kick in gonna make u give up easy bases
try to keep ur leg lower when runners are on base
when runners arent take ur time but lifting it to high will throw u off balance and ull lose at least 5-6mph on ur fastball
