I really don't think that this version of the song is that bad. Sometimes you have to freshen things up a bit and change a certain sound so that things don't become boring or mundane. I will always love any version of song that PSB puts out no matter what because I love them that much.

Huge U2 fan since 1985. I loved the Pet Shop Boys cover when it first came out in 1991! It's the only successful cover of U2...ever (well, in Europe). Yes, perhaps no one should ever even attempt to cover U2, but it was such a different take on the original that I feel it worked. However I do agree that Neil Tennant's voice sounds a bit sketchy now, a couple decades later after his prime.

I was there. Not bad considering this concert was put together a week before the event, after Geldof and organizers realized that there were only 7 concerts and they forgot about Russia. Not heavily advertized - my friend and I got there an hour late and got right up front. PSB, a favorite in Moscow, played 6 songs, 2 of them were "It's a sin." Some great Russian bands preceded them. I don't think the organizers really got their point across due to the last minute, but it was a good time.

Pet Shop Boys are a studio band, not live performance. They need all the studio effects and production to beef up what is otherwise a mediocre show (I don't mean anything against the Boys since their album version of this song is fairly good on it's own merits).

Pet Shop Boys lack the necessary impact of delivering what is a very emotionally powerful song in a live setting.
