It is just an expression. You are looking to deep in to the meaning. I mean when someone says Groovey Tuesday. Does it mean Tuesday is groovey? No it is just an expression. If i thought as deep in to things as you I would have a head ache. lol I have not seen a video from you in a loooooooooong time. I am happy to see you still rock out on youtube. Have a great day. I will be checking back fro more videos soon.
I understand where you're coming from, but I think the said statement does have some merit. Everybody has an internal set of values and standards by which they measure themselves up. An individual either meets said criteria or doesn't, where the individual falls on their own spectrum dictates their self-esteem. I think the statement "be yourself" really means let go of trying to meet up to your own standards and content with who you are right now. I really like your videos by the way.
@killak94 Self esteem has a big effect on how we respond to things. Saying be yourself to someone who doesn't think that their self is good enough I feel creates more anxiety and results in the opposite of the intended outcome. I have noticed a trend in ambiguous statements that we put forth as if they have great significance. Telling people they're always themselves even when they succeed I feel will accomplish the goal of the phrase be yourself with greater success. What do you think?
I definitely agree that it can be interpreted in multiple ways. On the one hand, a person could interpret it as them being told they are too uptight, so they need to relax more (i.e. negatively). On the other, a person could see it as them being being told they are fine as they are, so don't get down on yourself (positively). I agree that we shouldn't use these ambiguous and ultimately meaningless statements. We should be more careful with our words. Thanks for responding.
Thank you for making this video response Tim, it really helped me feel better. I'm glad that you and Carl are going to meet this weekend. It looks like I'll be able to join you on Monday if we're still good for that day.
Hopefully your paper and the rest of your homework doesn't take too long to finish. Thank you again for making this video response Tim.
