When you know the technique, then its just a matter of practice ... It's really not that hard... Yes the Speed Bag is an excellent tool for Practicing The Art of The Punch... I have to be very accurate to hit this bag the way I do, and it's the same when you punch an opponent.. If you are not accurate then it matters not if you are fast or powerful ! ! !

Thats some fancy hand work my friend. I have started using the speedbag again as I am training to go for the heavyweight title in our state amateur division. However, the speed bag I am using seems a little touchy, it has a ball bearing swivel and then two split joints under it. The top also seems a little shake (I put a salt bag on top to help control vibration I notice it throws me off beat). Any suggestions for us heavyweights to really speed up our hands?

Now about speed for the hands of a heavyweight.. There is no difference between a heavyweight and any other weight.

I spend a lot of time in Boxing Gyms working with fighters, so I get a little work in while on the Job ! ! !

1:25 is great , i have never seen one use the back this way before!

I have a question: In my uncle's basement i found a back that has the shape of a speed bag but is much migger(bigger than a basketball) and aprox 10 kiloes in weight. What is ist for? May it be some sort of wierdo speed bag? He said he used to kick it when he trained kiokushin for the bag didnt stop the kicks and allowed ushiromawashi geri(rotation back kick)

Speed Bags come in a variety of sizes...

from as small as a Grapefruit to as big as a Basketball.... The speed of the bag has much to do with how much air you pump into the Bag, and also a lot has to do with which Swivel you have conected to your platform... Now a smaller hard bag will move so much faster than a Large soft bag... I hope that explains it..

To answer your comment on the technique I use (pinning) or (trapping)...

This is a very Old School Boxing Technique, that is some how being lost...Checkout the Hispanicmakingpanic and he does it a little different but part of the same lost art.... Pinning / Trapping has practicle applications to real fighting ..

I look at what you, Alan Kahn, Dee Pooler, the Skunk, etc... do as precise art not unlike a dancer, (yeah, Ali and Leonard and Naseem danced too, and danced hard!) I hope to make another video soon yet I have an injury to my hand at this time.

As for comments saying that the Speed Bag has little or no application for Punching or Boxing.... Well I know its been an effective apparatus for my study over many years... People ought take my word for it ! ! !

I have to say that, for the amount of effort and concentration put into the speed bag, that it is not an efficient training technique. I find that it helps with my timing when I'm throwing combinations, but in actuality, I believe that it does not assist all that much.

The Speed Bag can be used for Boxing Training in a way that will help the boxer inprove his game. If you noticed when I switched the style to Pinning and Trapping the ball and then let louse with a Punch, well this is very simular to touching and messuring your opponent before you let the Big Shot Go. I intend to make another video with more Boxing related practice.I hope you will look for it, and be able to apply it to your Punching.Paulie D'
