  • So glad that i was able to be at a lot of these events at this time. The height of the BTCC. RIP david Leslie

  • Biffing and barging plus close racing is what the crowds wanna see and you just don`t see that anymore...

  • you wont see this in racing these days its a good job they get uploaded rather watch this than todays racing

  • This was a simply outstanding race for the 1992 season, it was awesome! The aggression and tension between the drivers is immense in this clip! *happy days*

  • @DuchampLondon I remember the faux soul searching this crash produced in Autosport. They were trying to run a 'has touring cars got too much contact?' angle, but how can you not love racing like this? It seems the contact only got worse as the 1990s went on, and wasn't as fun anymore when Kelvin Burt had his accident.

  • THIS was real racing, with the best motorsport commentator ever-Murray Walker.

  • I reckon Soper couldn't brake for that corner you know...running serious inflicted camber front and definitely rear he probably corners beaut but in a straight line it's gonna brake like a pig! Still it makes me wish I could spin people out who give me the finger...even makes me laugh how he stayed in the car so Cleland couldn't punch him!

  • @Kinsywinsy No,he never would have made that corner but,I wouldn`t let someone tell me they`re going for first either :)

  • @Kinsywinsy I don't think he even wanted to make the corner, it looks like he intentionally took Cleland out so his team mate Harvey would win the championship. I'd have stayed in the car as well!

  • "I'm going for first says John Clelend" hahahahaha ohh Murray we do love you

  • 'He might get away with the in Germany, where he might be Mr Superstar, but this is clean, the man's an animal!! Cleland on Soper afterwards. I was sat in the stands near that corner. It was a great moment but such a disappintment as we were cheering Cleland on!! Never liked Soper after this!!

  • oh my god. im so born in the wrong decade. how i wish to see such racing nowadays. im 19 years old and i love proper racing like this. how i wish i could see all these great btcc races and dtm races from the 90ies. only gt1 class is nowadays seeable. THIS IS REAL RACING. FIGHT FOR THE WIN ! btw, which car and driver won this race ?

  • @fendero123 At least you're 19, which means you have conscious memories of the 90's, unlike me, who was only 2 in '99. Man, I'd wish I was your age, or even older.

  • "I'm going for first! says John Cleland."

  • @ICCsnaredrummer yeh i spotted that too. Top quick wit from Murray again

  • อดีต เป็นตัวแรงในตำนาน 171 ระดับแถวหน้าซะด้วย สุดยอดจริงๆ

  • Great camera work and incorporation of engine noise. Murray is infectious

  • As I seem to remember, John Cleland was always spitting his dummy out.

  • Cleland totally deserved that

  • @almightywiggles I don't agree, he had the corner, Soper bumped into him by being too ambitious on the grass.

  • God i miss this. Pray for the day all manufacturers come back to the btcc!!!!!!

  • Proper days....

  • i NEVER get bored of this video :)

  • 'Im going for first says john cleland' Haaaaa!

  • LOL GO BMW!!!!

  • Naughty Soper

  • Best last 3 laps EVER with incredible Murray :)

  • Fantastic! The thing that really amazes me is for footage that's nearly 20 years old the in-car and rear cameras are as good as you get today.

  • This movie is more exciting than whole f1 season today

  • Pure evil,fantastic. Total intent.

  • Damn now that's some racin for ya!

  • good old school racing.. I miss those days! And with the old H pattern 'box too!

  • Comment removed

  • Racing as it should be :-)

  • Back in the days when it was a leagal requirement for you to finish needing at least 4 body panels and one light cluster replacing!

  • If I were Cleland, I would have beat the crap out of that dude in the BMW

  • im waiting for a fistfight xD

  • fantastic

  • Speed and action!

  • ...and the fight would have been hilarious.

  • cleland is a legend.

  • I have a feeling that the BTCC is picking itself back up now. Hopefully we'll see a decade just as good/if not better than the 90s.

  • John Cleland is a legend. Steve Soper is a nob.

  • this makes nascar look like pussy shit

  • @8man117 nascar is not pussy, they are (and were back then as well) averaging much faster speed. the way these guys raced (soper, etc) they would get kicked out of any other championship in the world including nascar. might be entertaining for a casual motorsport fan, but it's just immature and wreckless.

  • @JDBEDORE thats the point of btcc, it may be immature and wreckless as you say but its so much more exciting and full of action. and it does take alot of skill, Nigel Mansell used to race in it.

  • @JDBEDORE To be fair, the BTCC isnt like this anymore, as any form of agressive driving gets penalised now, which I think is a shame as what made the BTCC in the 90s so great was the aggressive, bumper to bumper, wheel to wheel driving from everyone.

  • @MrRocket2008 spot on

  • one word : RACING !!

  • Esto son carreras y no la formula 1!!!!!!

  • I would have ripped Sopers helmet off and knocked his face in.

  • Go little Toyota You Can Do IT!!!!

  • Soper is a moron!

  • 4:08 lolz. You can just about make out a bit of cussing too.I swear this never gets boring.

  • that its so intresting and better rhan WTCC !

  • In my eyes, Cleland was bullying Soper, and Soper reacted. There was nothing wrong with Soper's move on him, but he got the hump, simply because he got overtaken, then went on a panel bender!

On a side note, I'm seeing a lot of Cleland in Collard, these days... I guess there's always one!

  • Soper didn't 'hold his line' he just cut the corner to intentionally take out the Vauxhall for good....

  • "My car's already wrecked - I'm not losing anything!" hahaha. I was only 12 at the time of this race and never saw it then, but it's funny watching it now.

  • Now THATS racing!!

  • Racing aside - that was some pretty good directing! The pass at Stowe (1:36) looks like it's from a movie, purely for how perfectly positioned all the onboard cameras are and the seemless transitioning. FOM could learn a lesson or two from whoever broadcast the 1992 BTCC season... :P

  • @ 4:08 " I'm going for first!! .. " LMAO

  • i never before see a stupid guy like cleland, he sucks his car was doing really slow , only can go to a side and let the bmrs go. Bad intentions from cleland trully gay move from inside.

  • This shit was exciting. I just dont feel the excitment with the racing i see nowadays.

  • Proper racing.

  • RACING. Because football, basketball and baseball require only one ball.

  • The '98 Donington with N.Mansell is exciting till the very last second aswell. Awesome racing.

  • British touring cars were the goddamn business in the 90s. Good times, good times.

  • I like to imagine John Clealand shouts alot when he races

  • well everyones pretty much summed it up. Still the best race i've ever seen and I watched a lot of races in my 20 years of living lol

racings too soft now and i'm from America, I know, imagine that, an american that actually loves real racing

  • well everyones pretty much summed it up. Still the best race i've ever seen and I watched a lot of races in my 20 years of living lol

    racings too soft now

  • Oh, Murray. He wasn't pointing towards first. ;)

  • clelend is such a cheat

  • Who's the announcer for this race?

  • @Zuzla9 The unforgettable Murray Walker.

Never makes a mistake...always making incorrect prophecies.

  • why can't modern touring cars sound like this??!!

  • Them Carina's rule'd.

  • @Ryan831754 Andy Rouse!

  • what did soper do at the end of hangar straight in the last lap? is he shifting down into 5th gear? that sounded not healthie

  • @ernstleon Yes I think he accidentally shifts down into 5th. It's incredible, actually, he loses several car lengths to Cleland but claws it all back by the exit of the corner. But then the BMW did have ABS...

  • 8 people like NASCAR

  • What a great series. I've tried to watch it today, but it has rubbish drivers, rubbish cars, a rubbish format, safety cars every three minutes...

  • Just Brilliant, Murray makes it that extra special too

  • Best damn racing I think I've ever seen. In fact, I'm downloading this and putting it on my Zune.

  • why can't F1 be like this??

  • @Tilly6ArrowKart It used to be....

  • Excellent. :D

  • Best touring car laps in history...

  • Got to love Murray you dont get commentators better than him these days. This is how racing should be all the time close, exiting, lots and lots of mayhem all the things you want. This is real racing

  • "' I'm going for first ' says John Cleland"

    LOL, Murray, eye doctor... xD

  • dirty steve soper still have got over that lol

  • After the race Clelland called Soper an animal.

  • Great action and commentary...lol The state of Soper's BMW amazing, bring back those days.

  • Sick racing

  • Yep, 4:09, Murray needs to brush up on his sign language

  • I am American and the BTCC is one of my favorite racing sports. I love the close racing and action. And this finish was amazing!

  • Wow, that is racing

  • That is real racing right there! At least they aren't afraid of damaging their cars!

  • 4:08 "I'm going for first, says John Cleland!" Murray Walker is fantastic.

  • Comment removed

  • oh yeah, glory days. bring it back( it wont come back, just like group B)

  • That's what I call genuine car racing.

  • 3:35 Damn! I want more gears!!!

Man, even the way Soper shifts seem more furious than the other drivers, that BMW was being pushed to the limit!

  • i have never seen such great racing in my life are there any races posted on youtube?????

  • he probably did it on purpose so that his m8 wins ?

  • 5:40 Soper at fault there,..no way did he attempt to take that corner from that angle and with 2 wheels on the grass,..all he wanted was Cleland off and he got it. Fantastic driving from the super 7. lol

  • BTCC. When drivers were hard men with a steering wheel. Now? YAWN.

  • i remember sitting glues to the sofa as a young lad with my eyes stuck to the screen every time BTCC was onTV... this is what racing is all about.. bring back the good old days.. didn't every young lad want to be a touring car driver back then lol

  • wow great racing!!! Thanks for the upload this is great!!!

  • Never saw american cars in that time ^^

  • "I'm going for first says Cleland" haha, Murray

  • @bagshot100 .. yes suspect that wasn't the real message hahah

  • Silverstone was much more exciting before they changed everything for F1...

everything was better before F1 gets hold of it

  • When the BTCC was good!

    Now it's utter pants......

  • @AndySlide Couldn't agree more, this was the best era for not just BTCC but also DTM, ETCC & ITCC... they were all great to watch

  • NOW THAT'S RACING! F1 IS SO BORING... good old times..

  • Red mist

  • awsome

  • what is the blue car cheers toyota what?

  • I dont know for sure but I think its a Toyota Carina

  • @TheSkinnyGranny Toyota Corrola/Carina.

  • @TheSkinnyGranny Toyota Corolla E90 Generation (1987-1992) (it's best known version was the liftback 5-door -Sprinter Cielo-, rather than the sedan)

  • @JackBandicootsBunker It's a Toyota Carina II T17 (1988-1992).

  • @aspar001 But I think that's its name in the UK. (Before, Carina, Corona and Corolla were almost the same)

  • @JackBandicootsBunker The Corolla was Corolla all around the world. Carina II/Corona was a bigger sized car, sharing only one engine with the Corolla (at least I think they shared only those different variations of the Toyota's A-series engines).

  • @aspar001 I know the Carina and Corona are bigger, in fact, they were predecessors of the Avensis, the Premio or the Allion, which were between the Corolla and the Camry.

However, if you look at a Corona T170 sedan, and a Corolla E90(AE92) sedan, you'll see they are very similar. I don't have the exact length and width of said models, if you have them, please let me know and I'll compare.

  • @JackBandicootsBunker Corolla E90 sedan (length x width) 419,5 x 165,5 cm

    Corona T170 sedan 444 x 169 cm

  • 4.42 soper: so i dont turn in, no need to, the cavalier will absorb me. Cleland gave Harvey room, respect. However his team mate lacks that basic skill of a gentleman.

  • Soper made no effort to corner he hit Cleland who couldn't corner a cavalier and a crappy three series at the same time so he went off. Shame on Soper.

  • That ist what i call real racing, amazing, great!

  • Revenge is a dish best served cold!!! you are always gonna get a brain in a bucket type of driving on a last lap in touring cars. although Soper's last attack on Cleland was pure torpedo!

  • xD fighting Opel^^

  • Aaaaa, manual gear-boxes. <3 Real racing. :D

This is so fucking hard core!

    Bring back old racing days!!!

  • LMAO at 3:37 Soper: "where's the 7th gear?"

  • Who licked dislike? This is just sensational, with a classic commentator moment.

  • "going for first" haha he was flipping the bird.

  • 4:09 .. I didnt know that giving someone the middle finger in a race meant "I'm going for first"... lol :P

  • amazing! Thats REAL motorsport!!

  • i love btcc racing its cool

  • Classic entertainment. Muddly Talker saying: "I'm going for 1st" when Cleland gives Harvey the finger is just The Best Quote Ever. I remember seeing this live and wanting to kick the s**t out of Soper. Superb!!!!

  • @MikeyJock why the hell are all you saying that it was soper's fault? soper passed cleland clean and then slowed him down so harvey could pass him. then cleland atacked soper, almost threw him out of the track and then closed the door, he had nowhere else to go. cleland had it coming and he can't blame soper for what happened

  • Given the state of his car, I'm amazed Soper hadn't been blackflagged.

Not the first time Soper drove like this. Typical BMW driver really.

  • @owena73

the fuel tank is in the cabin, and given the damage is relatively "cosmetic", they won't blackflag Soper that easily :P

  • Ammazing, this is better in Formula 1

  • Nice that those cars were not wrecked after a single touch!

  • @ 4:09 - LOL!

  • @k0pikolombia i agree funny as hell

  • My God! That's what i call autoracing!!! Epic!

  • @Infected9308 i know i still like to watch it to see and hear those cars. but hey, 24h le mans is coming 12 & 13 June !!! That's always good stuff

  • I remember watching this live with my dad, an epic race, I always routed for those Cavaliers ! ..... Murry Walker, the best Motor Sport commentator that ever lived :)

  • Fantastically entertaining

  • i tell you what. this is better than a bunch of idiots racing at high speeds but only turning in one direction. they call it nascar.

  • Makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end! Got to be one of the best races in motorsport history. Bring back Toca touring cars for ps3, not bloody f1 2010!

  • soper took him out!great racing through the field though.90's were the golden era of touring cars DTM/BTCC,a lot of grest races.

  • was the video speed up?

  • @LeontariF1 Nope.

  • The drivers were alot mote amateurish back then which made 4 better racing. love the spirit of sopher.(and murray obviously)

  • i got sexually excited

  • @Miskojones so did a

  • fucking BMW cant just pass a car they allways need to push the car of the track cuz they cant pass otherwise cuz there cars suck!

  • Cleland's interview post race is funny. "The mans an animal."

  • The cars need mounted machine guns, make it interesting.

  • this is the best overtaking and racing ive seen in a long time.

  • This brings back memories xD

  • Why cant the BTCC be like this nowadays. Its still good but the drivers dont seem have this do or die attitude anymore. yea its more risky but it makes it a hell of alot more entertaining to watch.

  • I love BTCC, you can say 'My (insert family member) drove one of those!' in my case my grandad and one of those vauxhalls, obviously not a BTCC spec, old man spec with horrible cloth seats.

  • 4:09 LMFAO XDDDDDD

  • What and exiting race!

  • 4:07 I don't think he's saying I'm going for first....... XD

  • @SeigeCJ um, to children he did. rofl

  • i watch wtcc,i did not saw the btcc at 1992,but fuc* soper...

  • it was way more action back then, today its too much tecnology makeing it to easy for the drivers!

  • Soper made the right decision

  • Amazing racing! Touring car racing is simply the best in the world. Makes me want to go back in time to the 90's, haha.

  • Soper's pass on Cleland at 3:52 is such a beautiful move!

  • When carina's rules!!happy days!!

  • Look at these BMWs! they drive for a team. BMW RULES!!!!

  • Soper idiot.
