yo cessna one question! did u hear aout the plane crash in jamaica??? if u did can u pls tell me wht went wrong while they landed?!!? i live here n on the news it saiid tht the engine collapsed offf on landing!!! y is this so??
They over shot the runway, brakes were not applied fast enough, and due to water on the runway the plane hydroplaned and went off the end of the runway. The engines were sheared off like they are designed to do in a crash.
@HIFKhockey90 naah, it ain't that cold, here in Estonia, we have minus 10 to minus 20 the entire week and i pretty much have gotten used to it(estonia is just 70 km south of finland).
I love going to the airport and flying in the planes. I really think it would be cool to takeoff in the snow and see the ground covered in white. Cant imagine how it is landing :P
Oh.. and this is some awesome footage at MSP International. Maybe we'll have to meet up at next year's Airshow at Flying Cloud? I'm assuming you live within the vicinity.
I don't know if anyone else knew this but to de-ice the runways they use dehydrated animal urine instead of salt because salt a extremely corrosive to an aircrafts aluminum skin. Just an interesting fact i learned about in my aviation maintenance class.
Tires also kick up salt that gets in the landing gear bay and hits the bottom of the fuselage. Also even the smallest bit of corrosion on a major load bearing part of an airplane can cause failure of that component. I know this because i am in training to be an A&P Technician and we are learning about corrosion.
I think it would be possible to use sand also because it isn't as corrosive as salt, so that may be something they used to give airplane tires more grip. They may use other things too it is just important they don't use any corrosive material like salt because corrosion causes reduction in airframe capabilities that fall below factory specifications which can lead to in flight failure.
yeah ye but the snow is been blowing down for scandinavia sorry for my spelling we jshould get a good bit tonight anyway it is very unusual for ireland to get snow before christmas!
Excellent footage Steve! Do someone know why there are so many "Snow Truck's" clearing the runway of snow? I would think that it was enough with 2 or 3.... 5/5 anyway;)
MSP is very busy throughout the day, but especially in the morning and evening and it was crucial to get that runway open. The airport almost always operates at all times on two runways, sometimes three.
The only time I can remember the airport closing a runway during a snow storm is to clear it as seen in this video, but also when an aircraft skids off the taxiway or the end of the runway. More often then not, the pilots are a bit too fast with their taxing on the snowy runways during the snow storms.
I cannot remember a time when all runways were shutdown at the same time. So yes, MSP, like a few others airports, can handle snow storms with ease.
Flagstaff, AZ beats that out - 2 feet of snow fell on Dec 7 & 8 and closed the entire city, as well as Pulliam airport. Would have loved to see the plows after our blizzard! Very nice vid - cool to see winter ops at airports!
this would be an annoying job. YOu'd clear the snow off and it would just show up again! that would drive me nuts!
