  • I don't need drugs to enjoy his music. His music is drug itself.

  • 6 people need a serious beatdown.

  • @gvaldarrama - I'm not saying you're wrong, but you can't compare Gilmour's style with Eddie VanHalen, Chet Atkins, Santana, Satriani, etc... because each one mentioned is a different style. Gilmour is blues/rock, VanHalen is rock, Atkins is an easy listening, Santana is got it going on in the Latino area, and Satriani just does it all. Gilmour is fantastic at what he does, but to say that he's better than EVERYONE... I'll shut up now and hit the replay!

  • 5:14 what's wrong with the guy behind David?

  • STRATGOD

  • so................... genius

  • Imádom Pink Floyd- ot.

  • guitar playing at it finest

  • the beginning of the song sounds like "Wish you were here". At 1:10. Nice song though!

  • Masterpiece...

  • dislikes listen justin bieber

  • See the dislike bar? Yea, me neither.

  • awesome!

  • i wonder who ever followed this act, what they were thinking. maybe something like "damn, how do i follow this up?"

  • david gilmour is what all guitarists should aspire to be like!

  • Seems to me if you can reach this level of guitar and this level of totally connected inner voice work together as well as his, you don't need so many because the finesse is so deeply connected to your raw emotion, that each note speaks volumes.

If I could be so blessed

here is another beautiful solo example, different player and not for everyones taste but if you will give a listen, it is the same deep connection with the guitar.

search YT -Jerry Garcia Band Señor Tales Of Yankee Power--

  • @HeavyMagic01

continued from above ---the song is a fine example of Jerry's unique& absolute Monster Tone,as well as his interesting picking and phrasing at it's very best.

solos are at 2:48 and 5:40

  • The other guitarist stand and wonder why David is God of Guitars when he only plays half the notes they do ,,,,,, He plays half the notes ten times as perfect,,,,

  • If Dave was in "The Matrix" he would have been made of notes, not numbers.

  • I'm going to miss a few, but here goes. Chuck Berry to Jimi Hendrix to Jimmy Page to David Gilmour to Al Di Meola to Randy Rhoads to Joe Satriani. In the vein of prog rock guitarists. Without these individuals we would not have.....

  • For those of you who do not know, Dave is blessed with perfect pitch. Hence the beautiful string bends and use of the whammy bar.

  • @MrChiliwasabi really, where did you hear that?

  • i wanted this man as my daddy....

  • and that´s how an old man rocks

  • 0:00 - 0:27 : Audience: COME ON DAVID PLAY SOMETHING!!! =/

    0:27 : David's Guitar: ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAR.

    0:28 : Audience: O__o

  • I saw Pink Floyd @ the L.A. coliseum in 1987 @ the end of their Pulse Tour. What an astoundingly sublime experience that was!

  • does he pre-dive the whammy bar and come up to the Em at the end of each bar or does he use his digitech whammy?? I've been playing it with my whammy bar but am thinking about adding the digitech whammy to my setup just for some extra fun

  • PINK FLOYD FOR EVER THE BEST JUST THE BEST

  • His voice is going deeper with age. It was matured perfectly during Pulse but you can definately tell the years are taking their toll. I haven't heard his solo work yet, but I'm sure it's written to his newer voice and playing style. He's still one of the greatest guitarists in the world.

  • Such a shame I will never have the chance to see my fav band of ALL time live in concert . At least I have the dvd's and cd's to pass this music on to my own kids and keep the greats alive when I am dead and gone!

  • ive seen alot of pink floyd live videos and the audience is always zombie like. its not that they're not into the music. its that they are SOOOO into the music, they're hypnotized by the sound. then when its over, they erupt like they just witnessed the greatest thing ever, cuz they just did. if i was there, i wouldnt waste any energy jumping up and down, hootin and hollering. i would just sit there and let that music take me away.

  • THE LEGEND OF ROCK!

    THE LEGEND OF MUSIC!

    MY INSPIRATION...

    DAVID IS A GOD!!

  • David Gilmour: proving that you don't need to look cool to be cool. Still got that awesome tone and feel ... shame he don't keep in shape a bit tho.

  • greatest guitar playing ever!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless David Gilmore!!!!!!!!

  • Sorrow is criminaly under-rated and under-played... its easily in my top ten floyd tracks, probably in my top 5...

  • Everyone in that room has been transformed.

  • the best song in the show

  • Thumbs up for Pino Palladino!

  • Gilmore caresses the soul..

  • Is that Ashton Kutcher back there singin' with the chicks. 7:19 Poor guy

  • Gillmour's guitar playing, can get a person higher than any drug on the planet!

  • Awesome.

    =

    TLC

  • YES! DG IS the greatest guitarist/musician ever lived.

I really don't know how can he can come up with such tunes. Actually they are more of a virtual canvas that allow each one of us to draw their own beautiful projection of happiness. Trust me, I listened to Led Zeppelin my entire life. PF was so different and DG tunes are actual life saving therapy:-)

  • wow He really knows how to play a strat! this guy.

  • Fact: One note played by this gentleman, is more powerful than 10 notes played by any guitarist.

  • @eugeneslament20 save hendrix, bb king, buddy and srv, but apart from that agreed

  • i disagree, gilmour is one of if not the most innovative and emotional players thats ever come out of the music business. david doesnt need anyone from the original floyd to back him up because he is perfect solo, not saying wright isnt talented but he is gone and we have to accept that. i agree there is no best because im sure there are millions of players out in broken down houses playing better than anyone in music but gilmour is the most respectable guitarist in music.

  • Sometimes audiences are just taking it in.

  • I agree with nannynicky4kife

  • noone else can make the guitar cry like David thubs up!

  • @dolceloungo - if i had a thub it would be up! ;)

  • OMG 8:00 - 8:16

    Goosebumps, everytime.

    That notes are just screaming!!

  • what sucks is gilmours voice in this show sounded like he was sick or something. his voice sounds so much better on the on an island tour. and the backup band sucks. i wish he had brought the floyd with him. it would've sounded so much better with rick and john in the backround. oh well

  • why are the audience motionless to a display like that

  • what amazes me about this video been the 1st time ive seen it and gilmour just oozes class in each song its the fact the audience are fookin motionless in the background what the hell is that all about

  • @johnny21879 LISTENING TO EVERY NOTE... im guessing.

  • phil palmer is on stage??

  • @bluesfashion yep.... Musical director for the house band.... see why Knopfler had him in Dire Straits eh?

  • strar. best guitar ever. My respect to les paul but the strato is the best dude.

  • 2:09 he hits the microphone stand :D :D

  • personaly i always thought MLOR sounds a lot like dave gilmours

first album and out of the blue

like roger waters did with pros and cons and radio kaos in the early 80s

they never seem to get that floyd sound right..

but sorrow is one of my favourite live to see in concert songs after anythng from wywh dsotm and animals

  • @hogwarts09 the only other person to tear it up at this show was gary moore playin red house that was insane but gilmour rocked it

  • The lyrics to this song are just sanctifying!

  • @ 61floyd61 Dude, although you have floyd in your screen name, you are totally oblivious to what floyd really is...here it goes...Floyd started under the direction of this legend called Syd Barret...after the loss of Barret to acid back in late 60s, gilmour came into the Pink Floyd scene...in their early years, they were following Syds direction with gilmour, but eventually all of them took it to a different era where it was the brilliance of all four, gilmour, waters, wright n mason...after cr

  • @slashette86 ...some additional trivia for the "dude"

Nicholas "Nick" Mason, Pink Floyd-drums.... He was (is) the only constant member of the band since its formation in 1965. He later studied at the Regent Street Polytechnic (now the University of Westminster), where he teamed up with Waters, Bob Klose and RicK Wright in 1964 to form Pink Floyd's predecessor, Sigma 6. Mason has been the drummer on every Pink Floyd album (but not on every song; some session drummers have been used).

    peace

  • A scored drum part! - The classical music of next century or what!?

  • Sir David God Gilmour...

  • Gilmour = God Of Guitar's, and anyone who says otherwise, is jealous!

  • One of the best Pink Floyd songs!

  • the bass looks like IceAge's Syd:P

  • you hit that nail on the head the best, the greatest guitar player we will ever see in our lifetime

  • Love this version but, if you really wanna hear this song in all it's glory, watch the P*U*L*S*E version. Soooooo much better. Not taking anything from this one. :D

  • I can´t forgive myself for not have been on any Pink Floyd concert!!!!There will be no next time I will go watching it....

  • at 2:18 it's Orgasm!!!!!!!!!!! great Dave

  • His musical ideas are, many times, hard to even make a cover. So, Can you imagine the musical intelligence needed to conceive all those magnificent songs? And all his solo masterpieces? How can someone have such an inspiration?

I think this comment will be fully comprehended manly by those who play any kind of instrument.

Mr Gilmour is outstanding! One of the best!

  • si ça ce n'est pas un guitariste alors !!!! THE BESTTTTTTT

  • SUPER DAVID......NUMBER ONE.....

  • The Best. End of Story.

  • Comment removed

  • David Gilmour is to guitar as Angel is to Harp

  • @Beolex AGREED!

  • yeah when the guitar is THAT loud, one little mistake could be heard through the speakers. Its all right. Right at the end he almost ran into a little trouble, but nailed it.

  • @TheChiFinest twat

  • 1983 57 reissue...

  • Every note is clear !! No shredding, so if he makes a mistake you're gonna hear it. I'll take his playing any day. Marooned was great too !!!

  • @Brrrrr43 i think has does do a not a note for note rendition and doesn,t have all his racks just pedals

  • @Brrrrr43 The cool thing about it is that he can shred. I've heard it. He just frequently doesn't.

  • @thewriter1008 Yes he can shred.. But as he matured more, he realized that emotion in playing worked so much better..and he was right. Some of the chords he hits are absolutely beautiful :)

  • @Brrrrr43 I think he always realized that. I think it's cool that he can, but he doesn't always do it. Sort of a way of seeing that his solos aren't really meant to show off, but to contribute to the overall meaning of a larger work.

  • @thewriter1008 Very well put ..I love his playing :)

  • hes a guest appearance... dont expect it to be floyd. Still good.

  • This is the first time I hear no groove in a Gilmour show...anyway DG the best ever!

  • That sound's more like the studio effort !

  • The drumming just doesn't click for the first chrous, and neither do the vocals :( Shame.

However, that intro is just.... different planet :D

  • Best guitarist ever.

  • putain chaque note me fait dresser les cheveux sur la tête !

  • love the nice clear rhythm guitars on this. Phil Tallor of Dire Straits fame amongst others!!!

  • And Phil Mazera of course.

Also hate the way the house band drummer hasnt dont much research and is just plodding along steady..... this song depends on some heavy but dynamic drumming! (live versions..... studio version was a bit too clean for my taste)

  • Seems like he was having an off night

  • Vocally, perhaps ... but not on his playing. I think his guitar work is amazing - totally out of the box, and wide open. Can't get enough of DG.

  • Vocally yes and then I noticed his phrasing seemed a bit one dimensional compared to his better performances, most notably Live in Gdansk (phenomenal). I was reading an interview and I think this was the night he had really bad heart burn so that would explain it

  • However, his performance of Marooned at this same event was amazing. I recommend that one...

  • Agree with you 100% ; the "Marooned" instrumental at this same event was one of his best live performances ever imho

  • Agree! I love it so much when the drums get back on for the final solo in this version! Simply fantastic :D

  • @MacDrevi0us david prefers playing huge venues with a lot of people....

  • Well, recently he said in an interview he prefers doing "smaller, more intimate venues."

  • @MacDrevi0us he prefers playing huge venues, plus he didn't have his locomotive nick mason or steve distanislao...

  • Long live Mr. Gilmour and his music. It saddens me to know that people tend to be very superficial with music and never seek to discover truth and perfection.

To go on to only know what the mainstream media shows on a daily basis, and never having any knowledge of the great things that have been created.

  • THIS IS FOR JIM

  • He would have loved this !!! Great guitar playing ...he always wished he could be this good :)

  • that guitar is the same guitar that he used in 1994?

    sorry,i am italian

  • Yes it's the Fender from the P*U*L*S*E tour!

  • thanks man

  • You mean the Division Bell Tour

  • @rdaws73 By the way, it's the same tour... :P

  • Yes, it's also the same guitar he used in 1987 thru 1988 Delicate Sound of Thunder tour.

  • correct

  • he used the guitar as his main guitar from the about face tour in 1984 till the live8 concert in 2005 which he again switched back to his black strat.

  • Correct. He purchased 4 of these 1957 reissue red strats and 2 butterscotch strats around 83-84'. Originally these strats did not have the DG-20 EMG pups. Gilmour also used the red strat on his last tour, On an Island 2006-2007. I would venture to say that out of the 4 candy red strats of his, that this particular one is his #1 but I bet he used some of the others on past tours as well. Gilmour always digs deep and brings out unparalleled raw emotion from some other place. AMAZING!!!!!!

  • the intro is phenomenal

  • David is awesome!! for a second i thought he was going to kill the band for not coming in on time! Good save boys! One second later and that would have been a possible last show for some!

  • Yeah that band really isn't doing too well... they played "coming back to life" way too slow.

  • thats yin an yang for u

  • Is it more or the notes David hits from 8.00-20 similar to the way he finished Comfortably Numb on the On an Island tour i just noticed it.

  • not as much as 4.00 sounds like turning away lol... i love how he can do that and still make it sound even better

  • Comment removed

  • Never noticed that just played it and it does sound very similar to On The Turning Away

  • amazing guitar playing from a guitar god. we love you david gilmore

  • The most sophisticated rock - and the simplest - that's why it is the greatest

  • yeah, exactly

  • Indeed a band like Pink Floyd probably only comes around once in a millenia.

  • Yeah man, there won't ever be anything like Pink Floyd ever again.

  • the song isnt the same without the powerful drums that were in the DSOT and album version.

  • Very nice version of that masterpiece. It's such a pity that he didn't play it on his tour in 2006.

But IMO Delicate Sound Of Thunder ver. is still the best.

  • wow! Sorrow just as good as Pulse but we get to see him him actually perform and the expressions no his face so I would say BETTER than Pulse. This is my favorite tune of PF. What a great night at Fender. Maroon was absolutely fantastic, and he won a Grammy for that song.

  • Man, feel those licks! There's magic in his playing and in this song.

  • It's just his magnificent way of playing guitar.

    It ain't no accident.

  • And it kinda sucks, because with my generation and being born in 92, i can only have so many years to know Pink Floyd before their dead and gone. I wish i could have been born in like the 60's so i could have known them my whole life pretty much.

But Pink Floyd even when their dead and gone will still live on with their intelligently created music and each band member will be remembered through history.

  • Man Pink Floyd is like the ultimate in music history.

And Gilmore, man what can i say he's like the best guitarist in music history, he is so intelligent playing a guitar.

And i am a major MetallicA fan, (heavy metal), but nothing i mean nothing compares to PinkFloyd.

  • Sorry, friend. I know, it is Gilmour!!!! A big mistake.... I promise, that would never happen again.

  • Sorrow is a Pink Floyd song. But, Gilmore is doing such a good version here. I love it!!!!

  • "Gilmore"??...it's a pretty common mistake hehe. And yes, it's a PF's song and a great version.

  • @61floyd61 Well, it's easy to mistake the two, David Gilmour did write the whole of A Momentary Lapse of Reason. It could be called a solo album of his. the only difference is he gave credit to his two friends and band mates, Richard Write and Nick Mason. Roger Waters did much of the same with The Final Cut, but Richard Write wasn't included... so of coarse David did a great 'version' to this song; he wrote it.

  • @rickygo4th

    Richard Wright -_-

  • @CzikoMiko . I did spell his name wrong... I do that when I'm typing fast.

  • @61floyd61 Did you know that this album was cut without roger waters he left the group by 1985 this was in 1987 A Momentary Lapse of Reason was the cd. The song was composed by GILMORE so wtf do you mean doing a good version. You don't know your pink floyd idiot

  • @61floyd61

Sorrow is a "Post" Roger era Floyd song.... written, played, arranged etc... by Gilmour...

  • @61floyd61 Of course it's a great version.. How can you have Floyd in your screen name and not know who David Gilmour is?

  • @61floyd61 Yeah its pink floyd song but david gilmour was in pink floyd

and wrote sorrow music and lyrics

  • matter of fact sorrow have all the Gilmour mood.

and by the way its Gilmour not Gilmore.

  • I just forgot....David Gilmore is in my opinion the greatest guitarist in the world ever. He is a genius. This is a song that Gilmore performence....not Pink Floyd. But, Floyd did also play this song.

  • Hey flydfan!!! I am very proud of you! You know what music is. Really good music! Most of the other music is just crap. Pink Floyd is incredible. They are one of the greatest rock bands ever.

  • i love gilmour but what the fuck is he wearing^^

  • a shirt and trousers???? whats wrong with it

  • Hmm, this is not a clothe show...

  • So what what he's wearing, is that really important, i favor what he's wearing cause it's shows he's being himself and wearing what he wants and not what makes him look good to the crowd. He's being himself. If you really liked Gilmore you wouldn't complain about something as simple as that.

  • obviously its not really important! I love Gilmour and I learn his solos like 3 hours every day. I justed pointed it out.

  • What solo's can you play perfect?

After a couple months i mastered Shine on you crazy diamond, the long version, the one that's like 26 minutes long. Very cool song.

  • This is the same show where he did "Marooned" which was phenomenal

so he was on fire that night. I love this performance and you can see him playing this song close up, but PULSE is better with Marc's light show which is a part of the experience of "Sorrow" so that one will always be my favorite.

  • soon as i heard this. i went straight onto my i pod. fucking great song.

  • E-P-I-C

  • WOW!!! Young or old he is the best musician ever. Gilmore takes his listeners along for a ride they will never forget, and that makes him simply. a LEGEND<3<3

  • I'm 15 and sadly I'm the only one my age who knows this incredible music, at least that I know. Everyone is into stupid rap and pop music.

  • I'm 15 too and i love Pink Floyd and Gilmour :P

  • david gilmore the best of all. the whole world knows him well.

  • Indeed...but it's the G string he hits =)

  • pino palladino is cooperate with john mayer, isn't he?s
