I have a fond memory of that episode. When i was in Elementary School (78-82) the Principle would play the Uncle George episode all the time during lunch break on the film projector. And after Uncle George would get done eating all the food, he would then play it in reverse so all the food was coming back out of him. It was so funny.
continued: I can't remember which animator was in the vanguard of that movement, but I do know that he was one of the architects of Warner Bros. rise to cartoon superdom.
Back to the rascals: When MGM bought out the rascals from Hal Roach, they instituted a much stricter line when it came to interracial interaction. MGM's Buckwheat never exhibited the grit, smarts, and gumption of Roach's stymie.
My Mom bought me a book about The Little Rascals years ago.
It said that Spanky got his nickname because he'd get extremely frustrated sometimes and cuss. And he'd get a little smack. Then, later, he'd forget and do it again. It must have been hard being so precocious!
Yeah, that little laugh of Spanky's, somewhere between a mischevious little kid and a mad scientist, LOL
Child stars come and go, but Spanky will always be remembered by folks like us, and I can only hope that future generations find out, just like we did, how much fun he was and what a rare gem of precociousness and preciousness he really was.
I never had any desire to be a parent, so I'm not. But I would have loved to if it was for Spanky McFarland. He was the most lovable person who ever lived, as far as I'm concerned. I hope he's one of the first people I see again when I die. You KNOW he's in heaven. If we mere mortals loved him so much, then you KNOW God does!
I understand. I want to cry whenever I see that picture, hear his voice, or see his little face. Nobody was ever more loved. What more can anyone achieve in life than that? It's really an awesome accomplishment!
Our Gang and Other shows and movies from the early days of motion pictures...can teach us a lot
about how things are today. We should make Little Rascals, Laural and Hardy, buster keaton and charlie chaplin required viewing in History Class during grade school
A VERY big +1 to you, and more if I could rate your comment more than once. :-)
The problem is is that these are "too clean" for today's toilet humor laden world, or don't have any political trappings that Hollywood can run with or use for their own reasons.
These were clean-cut, wholesome and loveable comedies in a time when America thrived on true comedy and decency was respected with a keen eye while retaining the abiltiy to be truly funny.
And soon, our Constitution will be replaced by International Law, Popular Opinion, and soon the Socialists will be telling us how to do everything after we get out of bed on the LEFT side every morning.
Poor George. One can only imagine how much he missed his friends from Our Gang! So many went their own ways or tragedy found them. Yet one can't help but get the feeling that George placed all his friends on pedestals and missed them dearly. There's been a reunion going on ever since we lost Spanky. RIP that old gang of his.
I'm assuming you mean Carl Switzer. After pulling a knife on a guy he claimed owed him money, Switzer was subsequently shot by him. Wiki has the full story.
Some people wnat to bash the Rascals for racism. Well, there were some bad images of blacks in those shorts... but the fact remains that the Rascals were WAY ahead of their time.
Think about it, the gang was interracial and they all stood on equal ground with each other. Black and white, playing together as FRIENDS.
True! Male and females were seen together as equals too. That was a rarity for th etime. Kind of sad to call it racist and all today considering just how "cutting edge" it was in its day.
Maybe we just thought we were making a better world after the "rascal". When in fact we didn't. Throw away those cell phones, high speed internet and especially THOSE GDF VIDEO GAMES!
Gee.......what can I say about the Little Rascals...I'm just glad I got to experience so many magical times in my life. The world is such a poor place today.
Thanks for posting this glimpse of such a great child actor. I am saddened that he died so young. I just had a baby and can't stand to think of all the contrived politically correct poision that the media of today represents. I am grateful that he will have youtube and the internet to see what the past was all about. His Grandpa would have been 97 and spanky and the Our Gang comedies represent what he grew up with.
fantastic, i guess i was part of the fourth generation to grow up with our gang, priceless nothing compares, and this video felt like ketching up with an old school chum, cheers
New guys can't compare to the classics! Clint Eastwood, Christopher Lee, Spanky and "Our Gang' and John Wayne just to name a few. I remember The Good, The Bad And The Ugly. The most innovative western movie ever. Nothing catches the spirit of the Wild West like that one, except maybe Hang em High!
agreed, and the outlaw josey wales would have won academy awards because it was one of if not the best wasterns ever, unfortunately at that time in 1976,the movie critics didn't appreciate clints talents.
Doesn't that just piss you off? I've seen some movie reviews that made me sick. Starwars vas voted by critics as unimaginative, Jaws was rated a waste of time, and the Wizard Of Oz was labled as a movie so horrible people should just spend their nickle on a soda!
George's fave was mine too.

In 1993, my former best friend and I
were going to go to Wildwood, NJ to
meet Spanky, but sadly he passed
away 3 weeks before the show.
NBC news did a big story on him, and as the news was over, they played the theme song, "Golden Days" with a montage of Spanky photos.
And as the song ended on that long note, they showed Spanky in his little hat with that big smile, and I just lost it, I started bawling.
We lost a TRUE American icon that day.

Remember Tiny Tim in the first "A Christmas Carol"...still brings a tear to my eye. I would cry yearning for our world, our nation and people, to
heed the message in that old movie.
