As others have said here, this bear, in terms of frame size is not particularly large - he is morbidly obese - that is were the (extreme) bulk comes from. A sad sight actually, shame. For the frame size (about 7 feet tall), 700 lbs would be a healthy weight, not 1700 lbs.

That basis is I have studied all bears in N. America (that is grizzlies, kodiaks and polars) as a part of my zoology PhD. This includes measurements taken on all 3 studies that included weight. A 7 foot male grizzly of average frame size and bulk weighs around 700 - 800 lbs. Your remark is arbitrary as it talks only of (once again, I state what you say) 'a healthy fully grown bear'...mine was specific. So, 700 lbs would indeed be a 'healthy' weight...as stated originally !

@guitargod1298 Sorry to rain on your parade but unless that bear died roughly 2 months later it's not the biggest. The current largest grizz bear ever killed is at the Smithsonian and about twice the height of that bear. Source: Saw it myself on a class trip.

@TheSwdishAtheist As much as I love animals, I do have a second opinion to give here. Brody, like most bears who are trained for show, was adopted at a young age for one reason or another. Did you ever consider the possibility that Brody's mother was killed by hunters or another bear and that Brody was rescued? That's usually how it works.

This bear is probably 1000 lbs tops, if they guy presenting it to the crowd said it was 1700lbs, he was deffinately lying for the publicity and the affect, it's very common to do that at shows such as these.

This bear is fat. Stop the video at 0:08 and we can see it stands hardly over 2 meters. Go to my site and see Bart the Bear standing at his hind legs and it stands around 3 meters. Bart weighed 1600- 1700 pounds and was MUCH larger than this Bear.
