i hear that, man. i can't remember the last time a kc homegrown caught my attention. these guys are just riding radiohead's coattails like every third band out there these days.
@theplainsman6 really? radiohead? these guys are alright, but I wouldn't compare them to radiohead, if anything they take their cues from 'the shins.'
@brian4480 ? I always thought the majority of KC bands took after the sound that 'shiner' made. This is the first KC band I've heard that sounds so different. Also, I always thought the KC scene had some of the best bands around that no one ever heard of.
This performance does them no justice at all. It was too soon for them to be on Letterman in my opinion... I saw them recently and they're performance is way more polished than this Letterman performance.
When Letterman invites you, you go. You don't reschedule and you don't give excuses. These guys are the best band in the country right now and when they go back they'll take over the music industry and they'll have their first Letterman performance to thank!
I totally disagree with you on the statement "they'll have their first Letterman performance to thank"... their Letterman performance was poor and had I not been a fan already I would have been less than impressed. I do agree that they are one of the best bands out now, but they can thank hard work and touring for that, not Letterman... he has nothing to do with it at all.
They went to Republic High School in Republic, MO. That's where they got their name from. I actually live in Republic and went to school there too and my stepdad was friends with Kenny Jankowski. So it's cool to see our little town put on the map!
I, too, am from KC and had no idea that this song which I have loved for awhile now was performed by some locals. Very cool, indeed. Lead singer seems a bit off in this performance. On the record his voice is a bit more haunting and controlled. Seems nervous here, maybe?

As somebody born and raised in KC I have to echo the sentiments about these guys. I had no clue they were from KC at first. I love Kansas City, but nothing about it makes me think of music like this. I wish there were more bands around town that sounded like these guys. Great song!
if u don't know why its called a cow town then u are a dumb ass, i have lived in kc all my life and i have never seen a cow, it gets the name cow town b/c of the food.
I could be wrong, but i thought it was called cowtown b/c it used to be a major sale/trade post for cattle back in the day? doesnt really matter though, KC-FTW
I think it does kind of matter that mufa would call someone a dumb ass and then be wrong themselves, it is because it was a major trade post, especially since they are from kc. I too am from KC and am proud this band is making a name for themselves and hopefully opening some people's eyes to what KC has to offer.
sorry bud but the reason kc is called a cow town is because they use to have a bunch of cattle come through kc and they had land they would put them which is now west bottoms. get your facts straight
Awesome band--I LOVE this song! Catch The Republic Tigers in featured in the upcoming original online series "Rockville, CA"--sneak preview up now at rockvilleca(dot)com.
Trying to find the official video or radio version of this song, please help, seeing only links to live versions, none compare with how great this sounds on the radio. They even have the making of the music video but OMG no link to the it! Thanks in advance.
This live performance is much better than the Music Video they put out, which got taken down from YouTube recently by WMG (major label.). All they did was drag a rowboat through a deserted dry (Nevada?) landscape throughout the whole video. WMG and other record labels are buying new and old groups' performances and songs, I have noticed. Sometimes the songs and videos pop up again under their auspices, sometimes not.
Why are you surprised they are from KC-- it is a large metropolis; you act as if it is some kind of small hick town; I'm guessing you've never been there before.
Well, I live there. It is not a large metropolis, but I guess that is subjective. Lets say it is a large metro. For a large metro it is a hick town and I can't stand it. They call it Cowtown.
ok i do have to afmit i like their album recording, but it looked like the singer was pretty nervous there and near halfway the guitar gets messed up. i can tell they havnt preformed alot, but this band has great potential... Keep it up guys!
well i must say i love the recording i got from iTunes, but it sounds as though they were very nervous on Letterman because the vocals don't sound nearly as good as they do in the recording...
Damn, that's great and very original. Not sure why anyone is knocking the vocals...it's right on...thanks something fresh. I bought the LP on iTunes at the suggestion of a friend...and after hearing it three times I am hooked and can't put it down.
I dont think anyone is knocking his vocals...They are just stating that it doesn't sound as good as it did in the recording...and also, they are attributing the wavering in his voice to nervousness, which is totally understandable...GO KC!
I got these guys to OPEN for a band at my high school (it wasn't a high school band, it was tally hall) just a month a go. They are really good. And thereaplusone your right about the singer holding his voice back, he has a better range then that.
What do you expect its Letterman!!! :P I'd be shidding myself too!! LOL.. That episode was my first to hear them and I enjoyed it VERY much!! Brings me back to the 80's...
