@jks2 LotsS of hum yes! This amp needs to be gone through, and a grounded plug applied as well. The reason it looks so dang good is it was stored many years and not played, which can make the caps go bad. As it was being sold and going out the door, I just wanted to get it on film before it was gone. The new owner plans on a cap job right off.
This video made metear up. Back around 67' or so I convinced my Father to buy me an electric guitar (a Crown Professional) and an amp, the very amp depicted above. I have come a long way since and had many better amps and guitars, but I never forgot the Supro.
My Strat is an older '89 model signature Malmsteen Strat w/scalloped neck... small headstock, '50's style body and neck. The original neck I wore to a nub, had it re-fretted and wore those out too. So I now have an older scalloped replacement neck in place there. It's an old warhorse but I love it!
Yeah, these are pretty cool amps... even just as a piece of art. I had three of these, and this is the last to go (snif!). I'm only taking my live rig & a practice/recording amp to Panama, so the rest are going to new homes.
Definately had some help with the crunch... that was a pair of '70's MXR stomboxes, a distortion+ and a Dyna=Comp compressor. The line noise of course is increased with compression. Those old two-prong cords are just not suitable to use anymore with modern grounded house circuitry... especially my house, which has several apartments attached and lots of stuff going on all at once LOL. A three-prong modern cord would be very beneficial indeed.
Heavy 60 cycle hum!!! Is it the lack of ground and single coils? Plus lack of bass response via mxr effect unit! The mxr stuff is great with bass heavy Marshalls but they dont respond well with combo amps....
Yep...2-prong ungrounded cord and single coils.Lack of bass due to Video mic and TV speakers LOL.We'll disagree on the MXR per combos/Marshalls, as I find Marshalls tinny themselves... its the Marshall CABS that have punch and response, which is why my two Super Reverbs are in sealed-back bassman 10 cabs.
Yo Phoenix! I don't know if you did this demo because I asked for it in another post..but if so, thanks! I've wanted to hear one of these for a long, long time. I've never actually heard any of the blue faced Supro's. I have a little "Super" which I love - and my friend has a Dual Tone (drool!).
At the end of the vid when you had some crunch going on...was that all amp or were you getting a little help? There did seem to be a lot of hum as well. Was that from the chord? Thanks again!
Dear God, that thing looks and sounds gorgeous.

I like sealed cabs myself. My newest amp is the bogner shiva with el34s and the closed back 1-12 celestion classic..

I hear that's a MONSTER good cab... havn't tried one yet myself.

Yes it's remarkable who much bass response it produces.
