  • One question: so did prop 5 pass or not?? (I hope it did)

I'd appreciate it if someone told me please. Thanks.

  • O look! Another site by some person who thinks its OK to kill people, even kids for having sex. Murder is one thing sex something all together different and murders for political gain is going to stop! Sex wont stop or mankind stops, stupid freaks.

  • Why is it that the Prison Guard Union is against this proposition? Because they will lose money!

    Vote YES on Prop 5.

Drug-addicts should be treated, not imprisoned.

Prison can't treat addictions. When they get out, they'll probably start using drugs again.

  • and they will go back to prison. duh.

  • Look at the supporters she mentions at 52 sec. I'm not surprised. Wouldn't their departments get more money if the prop passes? They could care less about the inmates. The longer the inmates stay, the more money and jobs those "rehabilitators" would have. Money Money Money.

  • I carefully read prop 5 and anyone who says that they committed a crime because they were on drugs can avoid jail and go to rehab. They can do this for up to FIVE TIMES and go to rehab again FIVE TIMES and then on the sixth time they're finally going to be punished? No. If you're on drugs that's already a crime. If you commit a crime once while on drugs, alright... I can understand that but FIVE TIMES and each time only getting a slap on the hand? Vote NO on 5.

  • You carefully read it? You can't just claim to be on drugs when you committed a crime. you'd have to have evidence which supports that you have a drug addiction which would mean that you would have to get caught with drugs. "Anyone", is an incorrect statement.

  • no on prop 5 people need to take responsibility for their actions. drug dealers often have other "businesses" and drug abusers should be required to have rehabilitition including their jail sentence. (sounded good for me not knowing what the hell im talkin bout didnt it?)

  • People will be taking responsibility for their drug crimes. Prop 5 doesn't mean it's a "get out of jail card". It means lighter sentences for drug crimes. Instead of getting 5 years in prison, their talking about doing only a portion of that time. It would work better that way because our prisons are packed with drug offenders and it isn't fair when they're put into a cell with a murderer. There is no equivalence to murder and a drug addict

  • i dont care i flipped a coin and this is my system its probably the worst system in the world but i still rationalize the choice and people shouldnt get it "easy" i say rehab and jail time

  • i agree to rehab and jail time. that is something i would agree on. a little bit of rehab and a little bit of jail. the rest is on the offender. sounds more balanced to me.. Yes on Prop 5=balance

  • well now it officially does not matter its 8:10 so i hope this state doesnt suffer from either decision yes or no

  • what about the drug users who use cannabis for illnesses such as chronic pains,These include pain reliefparticularly of neuropathic pain (pain from nerve damage) nausea, spasticity, glaucoma, and movement disorders. Marijuana is also a powerful appetite stimulant, specifically for patients suffering from HIV, the AIDS wasting syndrome, or dementia.

SHOULD THEY TO BE PUT IN JAIL??

  • Have you ever heard of medical marijuana? are you teen or what?

  • "who would want to put a non-violent person in jail"...well, lets consider who benefits from the incarceration of non-violent criminals: cops, corrections officers and lawyers. These groups have money and careers to lose if prop 5 is passed.

  • Perfect sense! Lets not pass PROP 5 so these people will keep their jobs! Because as we all know: it is better to keep things the way they are so cops and corrections officers will stay employed as opposed to helping out our fellow men and women when they trip.

  • I think you might have misunderstood my comment, I'm FOR prop 5 and was just pointing out the reason cops corrections and lawyers are working so hard AGAINST prop 5...they're the profiteers of the "war on drugs"

  • Indeed! I just reread with that in mind.

  • a trip? You slap people on the wrist.. No one can help anyone. Sure it would be nice to help all people and insure their well being, but unfortunately it's not like that for the majority. One has to see their own problem and then help themselves. That of course includes getting up off their stupid LAZY ASS to seek help. This goes for popeworshiper too. You guys fall short of reality.

  • I Voted NO on 5

  • You're probably a corrections, police or lawyer...or just someone who is uneducated and takes seriously government propaganda like REEFER MADNESS films

  • No I'm actually a college student, liberal Democratic from California who is sick and tied of recidivism.

Often times those same drug users who will benefit from prop 5 are out commiting other crimes. Whether it's stealing cars or mugging people, many of them turn to crime to support their drug habits.

I want to keep criminals in prison and if you got there by using drugs then so be it.

You must do every single day of your sentence if I have my way.

  • And alcohol, ciggarettes, and porn isn't illegal so it doesn't make it a drug? A drug is anything that has an addictions and is bad for your health. The only reason why the above isn't a drug is because it's taxed.

  • arent they supposed to teach you how to spell tired in college?

  • Aren't you suppose to capitalize a sentence shit head?

"arent they supposed to teach you how to spell tired in college?"

  • Berlitz777, the reason the relapse is because prison does nothing for rehabilitation. It is about profiting off human storage, plain and simple. If you dislike, recidivism then prop. 5 had a better chance of getting the addicted off drugs than prison ever could and it cost much less for the tax payer.

  • EDIT-the reasons *they* relapse.

Also the prison lobby (prison guards union) spent $2+ million opposing prop 5. what does that tell you?

  • You may be correct in that prison isn't about rehabilitation. But then again some prisons such as San Quentin do offer programs and the guys still don't take advantage of it. You can get a damn GED in many prisons and in some cases you can get advanced degrees. So that's not really an excuse.

Some people were born to be leaders. Others were put here and know nothing but trouble because it's easy money for them to rob some one.

So I say keep their ass behind bars and off my block.

  • No, low level drug offenders who's only crime is that they were caught with a small amount of contraband do not deserve to go or be in prison. Nor is it cost effective to send them there. It costs several thousand a year to keep someone behind bars, lets make sure those that are, are an actual threat to society and give the drug offenders the option of treatment.

  • At what point do you draw the line? Should "low level offenders", as you call them, have carte blanche when it comes to forgiveness and 2nd chances?

At what point do you put them in prison after they break the law?

  • Prison is for the seperation of violent criminals from society. There are plenty of avenues that nonviolent offenders in general can pay their debt to society that does not involve the Prison Industirial Complex getting rich at the tax payer's expense.

  • separation*

  • No your wrong. I just saw a doc on MSNBC tonight where one of the convicts admitted that many of the criminals surrounding him were also drug users.

    He was surrounded by killers.

  • vote YES on 5

  • YES YES YES

  • WHY WOULD ANYONE SEND A NON VIOLENT PERSON TO JAIL??? vote yes on 5... dont give me this crap of "free ride" if they are helping those sick people how is that a "free ride" instead of trowing em in a dark cell..

  • crime is a crime simpleton

  • Prison is for a seperation of violent criminals from society, people must have forgot that over the years since it seems prisons these days are filled to the brim with low level non-violent drug users, whitecollar offenders, tax fraud (my dad's friend went to prison for $3,000 worth of tax fraud)etc. These people are not a threat to society and should have to pay for their crimes through fines and community service. It is you that is the simpleton.

  • Me the simpleton? I read all your attempts to refute people's opposition to prop 5 and your noise is like any other half wit who thinks people are easily changed. You're comparing oranges with apples. Drugs/drug users are a cancer to society in which it infest the social steam seeping into play grounds, schools, work, etc... Drugs may be non violent, but it sure breeds trouble. Why don't you hit up Netherlands I'm sure you would enjoy smokin ur shit there. I'm sure u'd like society there, cretin

  • Oh shut the hell up, treatment is proven to be more efective and less costly then prison for getting the drug addicted off drugs. Fact is, prop. 36 prevented the building of future prisons and even caused a woman's prison to close. Prop 36 was a succsess much to the chagrin of the prison industrial complex. Prop. 5 was even a greater threat to their profits which is why they were so willing to throw $2+ million to attack it.

  • There will always be drug users no matter how harsh the laws are. The only country where laws have cut down on usage is Saudi Arabia. They cut off your arm and lash you for drug use. Not all drug users are a cancer on society there are many functional drug addicts. I am sure you have known a functional alcoholic or 2.

Harsh drug laws are very expensive if you implement them the constitutional way. The netherlands actually has a lower drug usage rate than the USA.

  • Vote Yes on Prop 5. It saves money, rehabilitates, and leaves more space in prison for the real threats to society such as: murders, rapist, robbers, child molestors, etc.
