1. Don't give up.

2. Do something else while you ar etrying to get it. It is when you least expect it that you will see it shine.

3. HAVE FUN! If you ever feel like giving up, just remember, your shiny could be only 1 SR away!

Yeah the RNG is kinda confusing, but I'd say go for it on Emerald. I didn't know about it, but I still got a shiny Treecko on it.

You can turn it off. I'm not sure about the battery issue. If it is on your DS, you might want to check out the Nintendo DS FAQ. It shouldn't lessen your chances for getting a shiny or chaining, but it will efect things such as Honey Trees and the Morning/ Day/ Night effect and Pokemon.

I really is when you least expect it that you get it. Yes I have some rare Pokemon on Sapphire but once I trade those I will go for Mudkip. I evolved my Treecko into Grovyl and I kinda wish I didn't do that so I might go for another one of them wayyy later lol.
