Good trial, but I think it is better being accurate with less weight than trying to be impressive and do the things wrong, you know? I mean you could harm yourself
Nice one Jimmy. What was progression programme to get to 60kg bell? Just the idea of trying to clean one of those bad boys to the rack position gives me the heebie-jeebies.
First of all, congrats, that's a lot of damn weight to put up. That said, I'm just learning to use the "hard style" kettlebell technique for strength. I'm no expert, but it really didn't look like you had the whole "full body tension" thing going on. Check out youtube user averagetoelite's military press corrections video. I bet you could put up even more weight using a hard-style technique.
The torso and lower spine is tight, but i always keep the legs ready to shift incase something goes wrong. Dont get me wrong, they are quite tense, but not totally, and to be honest, kettlebell lifting with a 60kg isnt the same as what the guy from averagetoelite is doing. I think mahler is probably the closest thing to the authority on heavy bell pressing, but we all have our own ways of training i guess, this is what im comfortable with.
Fair enough. BTW, if you haven't already, check out AdamTGlass2007 for some inspiration. He probably does more the kind of lifting you're into. He's got some amazing videos like a bottoms-up press on a 48kg! I can barely get one rep on my dominant side with a 16kg. I just watched and noticed that he also leans quite a bit on the heavier presses. Guess it can't be all that bad, then :-)
thanks, Im now able to do atleast five reps of this now as ive shown on my other video, My body naturally counterbalances regardless of how much i try to remain straight. It cant be a strength issue anymore as far as i can tell cos i literally cant be any more sturdy than i am. I dont fully understand it but thats how it is, without seeing someone do it the proper way with 2/3s of their bodyweight i doubt ill be able to understand.
I have to disagree on the call of side press. He is moving the weight up the entire press, not leaning away from it. This is as strict as you will see considering his BW vs. Bell weight. You have to understand there must be some lean to counter balance that messive bell.
I have yet to see a sub-250lbs lifter post better KB press numbers ( Jimmy I am guessing your BW to be around 225 at 6' 3' height?)
Thanks man, it's good to hear from such an enthusiast in strength training. Close with the stats, im 213lbs and 6'1. I hope to better this once i get hold of a heavier KB, Time will tell i guess. Thanks again
@AdamTGlass2007 I second your comment. That's alot of weight to be hoisting ov er your head so there are going to be some leverage issues. A straight up and down press just isn't possible (maybe if he weighed 300 lbs and was taller).
Thanks, i tend to go with what feels natural with the clean, i don't do much GS style but ive noticed many of them clean almost over the shoulder before briging it to the rack postion, like the greek fella who did the 200lb kb jerks.
when the weight is that heavy you have to lean to the side a bit. its not because of lack of strength its a counter balance issue. if your feet were glued in place it might be a different story. great work!
Thanks, and again, to be straight on this lift i think i'd need to weigh an extra 4-5 stone, and looking at dave whitley's demo of a side press i'd like to think this press is a lot less tilted in comparison and the bell not being turned to the side on ascension. I guess i'm gonna have to endeavour to push past the weight lack and get a straighter one down though, put my mind to rest lol.
i don't know about born strong, and im certainly not doing as much work as i wanted to, but its not good to believe anything is beyond you, i mean, i will believe if i die or get permanently damaged trying something, but until then everything is just gradual progression, i mean i had problems picking this up at all 7 months ago, in 5 months ill be able to press this 5-6 times at least and ill move on to the 80 when i find one, i havent got enough life to spend more than a year on one weight tbh.
im not sure, i mean i read pavel's guide to the military press and he justifies a counterbalance for pressing even a 32kg bell, My problem with this is that two thirds of my bodyweight wants to go in the other direction, so despite the struggle against bending too much im afraid there will be a tilt for any press of that kind of weight. i can jerk it up without a bend but that doesnt feel like its doing much.
I am curious as to what your training regimen has been leading up to this weight. Do you focus on general overall strength or Kettlelbell specific exercises exclusively?
ive only been truly focused on strength training for about 3 years now since i was 18, started primarily on kettlebells as a catch-all regime, first a 20, then a 40, then a 60. for the last couple of months ive been training with free weights but im lacking in bench press technique as my max is a low 150kg atm. hanstand pushups and other calisthenics are a good pre-req , i found that praticing those made the 60Kg a lot more possible. Other than that i find 20Kg heavier KB each year just works.
Thanks, yeah that bell has had a fair few knocks and given me a few more back lol, trying to straighten that military press more now, i doubt i should try push presses now cos 1. my technique sucks at it, and 2. doesnt feel as aggressive on the shoulders. just snatches, swings and presses from here on i think, then its time to find a bigger one lol.
Talking of bigger one's.... Laine Snook is bringing the Supernova Kettlebell up for me to have a play with. It weighs 187lb so is some serious metal. Have you seen his kettlebell clean with it?
I have now, where are these things coming from? the other day i was looking at the 90kg ader ones from texas, that would be me set for a very, very long time if it were available here. Sucks that we cant get ready access to this stuff but i'm partially consoled that the titan's grip makes it a different animal to regulation size crazy weight bells, or even non regulation size heavy bells with sensible size handles lol. Good luck with the bell, make us lowly 60kg lifters proud! hehe.
Wow dude... you are swinging that thing very confidently.

The clean was a little hi but besides that I'm not seeing the form issue. The flawed clean makes the press even more impressive in my book

Yeah it is good to work out in that warehouse because when you hurt yourself , because of bad form, you can claim workmans comp.
Matt8xx 2 years ago
signed a waiver im afraid, no compo, and poor form is the precursor to good form, and the only thing ive hurt so far is a few ego's tbh
jimmyjimmyf 2 years ago
