I used FInal Cut Pro. As for tutorials, a tutorial on how to do muzzle flashes in FCP is a good place to look, because that's similar to what I did for the explosions etc. For the sound stuff I just used keyframes in the pitch changer. Changing speed in FCP is pretty simple as well.
