  • Abominable driving.

  • aww, the poor little driver doesn't like loud noises - why are they driving? hope they get done

  • I must say I would have to have a very good excuse for not following them in and pummelling the driver for a close call like that. What is the reason for the cops "suggesting" no confrontation? They don't seem to be doing anything anyway.

  • @strippzy they are trying to build a case on threatening behaviour! Saying bullshit like raising my voice etc. making out I don't not need to raise my voice to be heard through a closed car window, they threw the toys out of the pram after I made a complaint about them not doing anything about cyclists safety, now they are going for (IMO disclaimer) pay back!

  • @TheVexatiousLitigant Crikey, that's stupid of them. I'd like to see Henderson police out riding with you for a few weeks, and then see if they don't shout after getting nearly wiped out. Floods of adrenaline and a near death experience make even the most mild mannered person likely to shout.

They sound like a right bunch of oxygen thieves. Totally unlike the mostly very professional coppers here in London.

  • @CyclingMikey I am sure the irony of the Officer raising his voice (in a quiet room) as he explained this to me was totally lost on him, he did appear a little out of control at the time, so I would love to see him on a bike!

I did a stocktake on my testicals (to the amusement of my workmates) later, present and correct! Luckier than a recent visitor to Henderson Police Station!

  • Why the hell would someone think that is acceptable? Just wait 2 seconds for god sake...

  • Let's hope the Police do something about that one, it was an atrocious left hook.

  • Crikey, that was bad driving! That's the sort of forward planning that couldn't manage a p1ss up in a brewery, IMO. Best practice by you not following the driver to have a word, well done! I'd have been very tempted to do so myself.

  • That was appallingly close {shock}

    Good luck with the complaint.

  • I probably would have to, felt like unfinished business. Although we can predict either a SMIDSY response or a typical attitude of road dominance.

  • @veloevol I do sometimes think what is the point trying to talk to idiots like this, nothing says look out for cyclists like an official warning from the Police. They are rare, but with proof of "interference" as the Police put it it is very easy to get a conviction, and with the addition of turning left from the right hand lane, even Henderson Police would struggle to avoid giving this driver a ticket.

  • @TheVexatiousLitigant - Part of me is confident in Henderson Police's ability... to NOT issue a ticket ;)

Your BrakeZound™ serves as evidence that you had to slow down to avoid a collision... might be worth mentioning in the report.

Keep us updated on this one.

  • @WellingtonBikeCam01 Well if anyone can NOT give out a ticket for this it would be Henderson Police Station, I just have to hope the driver doesn't live in the area, I always send complaints to Central Auckland now, as there is a much better chance of action being taken (anything above zero is an improvement!)

  • @veloevol It's hard to look dominant with a D lock embedded in your teeth though :)

  • I think I would have followed him in and had a word !

  • @mrcellophane99 I usually do, but I am trying to restrain myself after the Police "suggested" I should not confront motorists. I will make a formal Complaint about the driver instead, and see if the motorist prefers that to a quick word!

  • @TheVexatiousLitigant I'd "suggest" to them in the strongest possible terms that if they did the job that your taxes pay them to do you wouldn't be needing to confront anyone.

  • @mrcellophane99 - After a few meetings with a Snr Sgt in Wellington, I'm told that I should not expect any action from the police if I confront a motorist after an incident. I'm told that would be like "taking two bites at the cherry", expecting the police to raise the issue with the motorist after I've already let the motorist know that what they've done is wrong.

  • @WellingtonBikeCam01 So does that mean that they won't take action against you if you beat the living sh!t out of the driver after they've assaulted you with a motor vehicle, because that would be two bites at the cherry?

Sauce for the goose, and all that!

  • @Camsplint - Ha! Here in NZ, if someone breaks into your home you'd likely be charged with assault if you cause them any harm!

Of course, if someone passes so close that they cause you "immediate concern for your safety" and also cause you to lose your balance, and while swinging your leg out to, you know, "regain your balance", you kick a big dent in their car... Oh well... ;)

  • @Camsplint Cool, next time a good kick in the plums it is! :-)
