Looked like a good block to me. I am guessing that they apologized because of pressure to do so. It's not like they did not have many other good chances of making a tackle on that play. He even dropped the football and they still could not make a play on him. There were 2 or 3 guys on him and they could not bring him down. If they could tackle the missed call would not have mattered. Right before he scored, a player over pursued and missed a good shot. It just comes down to wanting it more.
i was at this game. Akron fans (who I never even gave a thought of before) are really, really weird. Not in a good way. It was a horrible call. The League even apologized.
It is hard to see the angle from the beginning of the block. He could very well have still had his hands in front of the WMU player. You cannot see that from here, and regardless, you cannot blame a loss on one play, even if it came at the end of the game. If it happened during the 3rd quarter, no one would be complaining.
Akron fans are upset at Western because of the way we HANDLED them at their place the year before (17-0). This game, and in particular, this play, turned our whole season around. It definitely cost us a shot at a bowl. With the win we end up 6-6. Right after this game we lost (gave away) another one very similar, on a late TD to Ball State. And of course, everybody knows what happened against CMU. So if some of us are a little touchy about this play, this is why.-BroncoBen
Yes, it was an amazing play, I'll give you that, but when an illegal block, let me repeat, ILLEGAL BLOCK, is made, there should be no questioning about how no call on that play gave Akron the game.
I see the only Akron fans are posting with their "you guys suck, stop crying" posts. Looks like Western ended up with the better record. Stop looking it at your own stand point and see how you would feel when your team is robbed from a win.
I wonder how all the "quit crying" people would react if their team lost when a missed call was so bad that the league office issued an apology to the losing team.
Do you know how bad a blunder has to be for a league to show up its own officials by publicly apologizing? It means they are admitting that it profoundly impacted the outcome of the game, folks.
yes, but it shouldn't have come down to that. WMU gave us the game and regardless, the other 10 players on the field weren't able to make a tackle.
Basically the bottom line is, yes, it could have been called but there are a lot of times things should be called and aren't. We shouldn't have been given the opportunity in the first place. Lesson learned.
From my point of view, the penalty was committed, but it really didn't look like he would have made the tackle regardlessly, thats like calling Pass interference when its uncatchable.
well for one, if it's ONLY the mac, then why are you watching this and commenting...secondly, the head MAC official came out and publicly declared this game to be horribly officiated and the last play was extremely inexcusable
Excellent return...lousy tackling. My favorite video so far this season. Get your kick team to learn to tackle and stay in their lanes instead of pointing out a missed call. You could find a missed hold on every play of every game. Stop making excuses.
what happened to the other 10 players on the field... quit your damn crying and teach them to tackle.... i see to much of this crap anymore, players wanting to make highlight film tackles instead of good form an technique an they end up missing the tackle... get back to the basics.
amazing play, weak bad call , and W. Michigan missed so many tackles and over pursued.

I support the Broncos but to say that is a bad call is weak to say the least.

Blaming the victim. How sad.
Rockingrobot10 4 years ago
If by victim you mean poor tackling and throwing a game away on your own, then yes.
midgetman1387 4 years ago
Poor tackling? Pretty hard to make a tackle when being illegally blocked in the back.
Thowing a game away ON YOUR OWN? Repeat: The missed call was so bad that the league apologized. Is that complicated?
