No, that's far from true. Momoko, for example, has thinner lips and a rounder face. Risako has high cheekbones. Saki's eyes are perfect half-circles. Yurina is tall. That's like saying all white people look the same. Do we? Nope.
That's not true. The first part, I mean. I know a lot of people can't tell the difference. But I don't know anyone who thinks people of other races all look the same.
Well obviously. Do me a favor and look REEEEEALY close at a Berryz Koubou closeup. Just search "Berryz Koubou Close-up ver.". There's lots of differences, trust me. Risa and Mimi (Please excuse the fan-names.) do look similar, but not identical.
It is well-documented that people have trouble spotting differences in individuals of other races. For this reason, cross-culteral identification doesn't do well in court.
My wife is from the Philippines and didn't believe this. She was shown a short video clip of a white guy (several seconds) and then shown multiple white men and asked to identify him. She picked the wrong guy. And she's a nurse, trained in observation.
That's not to say that people *do* look the same, but it just illustrates that until we are familiar with a face, we almost universally have trouble differentiating people of other backgrounds.
Ah, I see what you mean now that you describe it in a logical way. I guess I just don't notice as I'm a major Jpop/Kpop junkie so you could line up 15 Asian people in front of me and I could point out differences in each, and probably identify their country (it's easy to tell if you know what to look for).
Oh, I agree. Before meeting my wife, I couldn't tell Filipinos from other asians. Now I wonder how I had been so blind, as there are a number of obvious differences. Same with Japanese. But to a *casual* observer, or one who doesn't deal with other nationalities often, these differences aren't as pronounced, because they aren't used to looking for them. It is not a matter of racism, but simply an untrained eye.
It goes beyond race, too. It is documented that people who live in the city are more adept at differentiating between shades of grey that those who live outside the city. Country dwellers are more adept at differentiating shades of green. It all goes to what your eyes are trained to notice.
Well from my own experience whe I lived in Asia, I find your statement quite stupid (when you say that you could recognize the origin of the people)
As long as you know about ethnic groups its much more easier. You will find Han anywhere in Asia, Yamato in Japan and Korean in Korea :-D
Anyway pointing out differences between Japanese Korean and North Chinese is similar to do so with a German a French and a British. In other words its quite difficult.
I do know the ethnic groups. And there are quite a few physical differences between each group. Same with white people, except people like me who look like ethnic groups they aren't from. I look Russian when I'm really mostly Irish and English.
Good morning. Me I love Buono! and berryz Kobou they sing great good. My favourite singer it is Miyabi Natsuyaki, it is very pretty and she was born on the 25/08/1992 as me. It is a strange coincidence. Miya i love you

they may not think it but they can't tell the difference between people of other races as well as they do with their own race.

Lol.
I can tell them apart visually, but I have an odd mental block with Maasa and Yurina. I always call the by each other's name. I have no idea why.
