Long and short: I'm a bartender, and a drunk. So I pour much heavier than the bar wants me to. Know why? Because I want to get people drunk and have a good time. If you're paying 6 or so dollars for a jack and coke you should get at the VERY least from a stingy bartender a shot and a half because the bottle costs the bar about 18 bucks. I do scam on occasion but never scam the customers. I scam the bar that's working on a 300%-800% mark up on price. A SODA COSTS 8 CENTS TO FILL: YOU: $2.95!

I agree this video is pretty stupid and they have no idea what there talking about...Bar sells 1oz. drinks, bartender short pours 1/4oz. every drink, pockets money every fourth drink! I work at a bar and we have different pour spouts that do pour different amounts. But that is where a good bartender notices where the fill line is for a good shot. I wouldn't want to underpour for my bar patrons. If a drink isn't good, they won't order another. I hate jiggers. That is just my own comment. I hate using them.

I've been a bartender in Italy, and Florida. -at local pubs, nightclubs, and even the airport. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY OF THIS ANYWHERE. It's asinine. No bartender would EVER do this. EVER. I suppose I could dream this stuff up for a good news story, and it's a great story -right up there with weapons of mass destruction. Don't believe this sh*t!

This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen....I've bartended for 8 years all over L.A. and I've never seen any of this happen. It just doesn't make any sense for a bartender to short a customer (unless he is being a complete tool or not tipping AT ALL). We work for tips. It makes a lot more sense for the bartender to scam their bar...not the customer.

Glad I live in Canada, where (any bar I'VE been to anyway) doesn't use metal shot glasses (that one made me laugh), or pour drinks AWAY from the customer (the Gin trick) or use narrow spouts (rather obvious one, frankly). Where I live, the bartender gets caught doing anything like this and they're chased out of a job and or/city.

Most people don't tip much. Again, as I said in my last post, some girls can earn up to 2k a night. You don't have to short the customer, you just have to short the bar.

Another scam in bars is to bring your own alcohol to sell. Bartender smuggles in a couple cases of beer, which may only cost 50$ total. Sell each beer for 5$, make a shit ton of money back. This happens in many large bars, and this is how many beer tub girls can make over 2k in a single night (friday/saturday). Bringing in your own hard liquor is more profitable. Another is adding water to the bottles at the end of the night to increase the weight, and therefore increase your earnings.

Because at the end of the night, in many bars, you would weigh the alcohol. Then you'd pay for what was used when you do your cash out. The rest would be considered "tips". Simple example, if you pour 10 drinks, that use 2 ounces each, but you only give 1 ounce, then you get to keep the cost of 5 drinks, approx 25$ or more. Usually the owner would be in on it.

..... he takes fukin ages to move back and forth around the bar getting tonic and shit. and what else? is there 10 plates of different types of gin depending what sort of gin people want... i know if i saw my bartender pouring some tanqueray onto a plate id make him pay for the bottle, drink it then take him out the back and smash the empty over his face and stab him with the glass. then walk back in and slap the customer who was so blind he didntt see it ! why do these people get paid to lie?

Most bartenders are not trying to stiff customers. I'm a bartender & all bartenders know that if you make a strong drink then maybe you will get a good tip & a happy guest who will come back. But managers often try to control what we r pouring. I work for a bar & I pour strong drinks but then our liquor costs went up so we have to use jiggers or we could get fired. I still try to make strong drinks for ppl but there is only so much I can do without having to charge extra or risk getting fired.

I worked as a bartender for a few years and truste me when I say the bartenders would give you more alcohol for more money. The first clip of the gin, it is only if the owner itself would be pouring you a drink as he would try to reduce its booze cost with less amount served. Another big factor is that in most of the clubs by now has a automatic pourer, which allows the bartender to pour the amount it suppose to go on a drink!

i am a bartender. for the most part the bartender is not trying to hustle you. how would short pouring benefit us? we work for tips. if anything its the owner of the bar thats trying to rip you off and there always bartenders trying to rip off the owner. giving free or strong drinks for a bigger tip, and charging you for a drink and pocketting the cash instead of putting it in the register are the big ones. trust your bartender... unless you own a bar.

The "scam" pourer the guy uses is a standard spirit pourer used in every cocktail bar i have worked (and had a drink in) in the last 5 years all over london... the idiot doesn't know what he's doing or talking about!!
