@pacificdrumma actually yea there is especially with snares and cymbals, you can only get so much sound out of a snare or cymbal, after that point hitting it harder only decreases the longevity of the equipment. playing harder past that point also slows you down. Travis barker dosen't even break the rims like that, and he hits harder than anyone I've ever seen, horrible technique, but he still hits the hardes.
@alexfraley sometimes it isnt just hitting hard. I mean, I hit fairly hard but I got through sticks faster than the hardest hitting drummer that i know. Its because i do rim shots. so maybe its the mechanics of his hitting rather than how hard he hits. cymbal cracking has more to do with how you hit, not as much how hard. as far as slowing down, chad smith isnt a metal drummer, so laying down a heavy groove is more important than speed
@pacificdrumma I see what your saying, and you can pretty much hit a cymbal anyway you want, and not crack it. its how hard you hit it. and yea, I have the same problem, try tilting your snare towards you. make sure you can still do a rim shot. and dosen't really matter about mechanic, how hard you hit is how hard you hit. there are more efficent way to hit but still its about how hard, and no matter what style of music your playing,
this argument happens so much on youtube about drumming....you can't say "this drummer is the best" because there are just to many styles to be good at. of course you can have favs like i love danny carey for progressive rock, chad or mayb derico is my fav for funk...maybe one day there will be a drummer who kicks ass at every genre but thats about as likely as the second coming of jesus.....maybe it will be jesus.....that would be fucking awsome.
yes, music is not a sport. true musicians dont debate such frivolous crap. i doubt dave weckl and akira jimbo are dabating about bill bruford being better than mike portnoy or the other way around. or even saying one of them is the best. its like debating if orange soda is better than grape. its all personal taste!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Go watch a guy like Eric Singer, much more relaxed, more dynamic , better command of his rudiments. Chad is pro, no doubt, but everything sounds Chili Pepper with him, very predictable, all funk and nothing else.
umm ok?? eric singer and chad smith are in two totally different styles of music, funk isn't meant to have that many dynamics in it, and yea usually when you been playing in the same band for twenty years you usually sound alot like the stuff in your band!!
sorry that came out wrong. He invented the tom triplets or as you may hear them called "bonham triplets" you know, Right, left, kick. i don't know the proper term for it
so many drummers out there practice so much and do so many great compositions. But nothing can beat the style of chad smith, his approach to the drumset is so hard, attacking, powerful and groovey nothing can come close to that, no one can teach you your own style, and chad made him self one hell of a style!
shit mofo!! amen brother!! you and me r on the same page, u hit the nail on the head and your names benny too!!! peace man. chad smith numero ono!!! x
this is the reason why i play drums!

loudsoundman 2 years ago
@loudsoundman You talking about the hoops on the drums? I don't think he does.
alexfraley 1 year ago
@alexfraley yeah apparently he breaks the edges of the snare drum with rimshots
loudsoundman 1 year ago
@alexfraley I sure thats happend, but if he's doing that regularly, then he's hitting too hard.
alexfraley 1 year ago
@alexfraley theres no such thing as hitting too hard

yeah, popping the snare, well hitting it hard, gives the funk beats alot more power and just makes it a whole lot funkier.

In più riesce ad arrivare al limite come e meglio di bonham nella ritmica
