This is going to destroy Northern Alberta...There are also rumours of putting 5 nuclear power plants up there. The pipeline that will bring natural gas for the extraction process will run right over disputed Lubicon territory.

This is not just an American objective as Canadians consume the same energy per capita as the USA. Canada rides the coat-tails of the USA as it exploits foreign nations states to subsidized the energy appetite and we reap all the benefits of low-cost energy with little or no real cost in socio-political terms. Peak-oil may deal us a wake up call that will pit all consumers against one another - not a pretty picture.
