@MikelCulchie it is very good short film.I learned something new from you.I am planning to buy camera for shooting films with my friends. Is the t2i or t3i with some good lenses right choice? Do you have a good experience with it ?Thanks
@ezefias Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. And I'm really glad you learned something new. Yeah, I would say either the T2i or the T3i are great cameras. I have used both. And "Stop" was shot with the T2i. I have also shot a lot of T2i and 7D side-by-side. Image quality is identical. For the money, you can't do better right now than T2i or T3i. I think you're bettor off with cheaper camera and spending money on good lenses. But compare features to see that what you get is what you need.
@ezefias I've a couple bugs at times. But they keep updating and fixing things. And if you ever encounter an issue where Magic Lantern seems to lock up, just turn the camera off, pop the batter out, and pop the SD card out. If you do that, it can't damage your camera. Give it a second, then put that all back in and start it up again. I've had to do that couple times, but I've used it a lot! 99% of the time, ML works great. Go to ML's site, they have good tutorials on installing.
@ezefias Yeah, I would definitely record the audio to a Zoom. Even with ML, DSLR audio is still not fantastic. I used Zoom H1 for "Stop" and simple boom mic (Audio-Technica ATR 55) which is not the best mic, but for the price, is quite good. We boomed the mic over the actor. Some foley and nat sound was recorded with the Zoom H1 mics. For dialogue, tho, always boom in quiet place, as close as possible. Bad audio can derail a good looking project. So get the best audio you can and mix it well.
@MikelCulchie Thank you again for your answer! And what about lenses. Is the 50mm 1.4 prime lens definitely better lens for shooting than 1.8 when they are side by side .I can get 1.4 .Is it worth that money? What are your experiences with both lenses? Which other lenses do you recommend for shooting macro, zoom, daylight ,lowlight? Thank you!
@ezefias I have both the 50mm 1.8 and 1.4. 1.8 is great for the price, but I'm selling mine. Awesome lens for still photography. But the 1.4 is more solid, and the focus ring on the 1.4 makes it much better for smoothly wracking focus when shooting video. So if you have the money, go for the 1.4. Otherwise, I love the Tokina 11-16mm 2.8, the Canon 85mm 1.8, or the L series zoom lenses from Canon that can do 2.8f across the full zoom range of the lens. Hope that helps. Thanks again for watching.
@MikelCulchie Thanks! You helped me to decide! And please help me.I don´t know which camera should i get. The t2i or t3i? t3i has flip out screen, manual audio levels and digital zoom for video. Is it possible to install ML on the t3i? Is the LCD on the t3i sturdy?Should I save my money and get the t2i and something other like mic ? What are your recommendations for me after your experiences with both cameras?
@ezefias Well, it's about what features you need. Overall, T3i is nice, tho more plastic-y than the T2i, even. The LCD is sturdy, though. Digital zoom is always crap, don't every bother to use as it degrades image quality. Always zoom optically. Yes, there is ML for T3i. So you can go that route. If I were buying a camera now, I might go for T3i because of the swivel LCD which makes low and high-angle shooting easier to monitor. But again I must stress, compare feature and pick what you need. :)
@MikelCulchie Thanks! And is it possible to monitor the audio on the t3i/t2i? Which cables should I use to make set-up like you with zoom H1 like you at 0:50 in this video? Sorry for many questions :D but you helped me with many answers.
@ezefias No worries about the questions! Glad to help. You can get cables to monitor sound from DSLRs. Best bet is to google that, or check out the forums on Cinema5D. I've never used any. I stick with recording sound into my Zoom H1, which you can plug headphones into to monitor. Audio is an after thought on these DSLRs. With the T2i, you have to use ML to have manual control of audio. The Zoom H1 is only 100 bucks, and records up to 96Khz 24bit to micro SD.
@MikelCulchie Did you use any stabilizer or shoulder rig during shooting this film or just using tripod as the stabilizer?I like the end of this film when you used the macro lens.Should I buy the sigma 70-300mm macro? Is it good lens to use?Or is canon 50mm 2.5 macro prime better choice? Thanks! I am still learning.
@ezefias I used the fluid head of my Manfrotto tripod detached from the leds as my stabilization for hand held work. Otherwise it was on sticks (or jib for one shot). I have not used the 50mm 2.5 macro. I got the Sigma because it was inexpensive, and I mostly use it for still photography. It depends on what you feel will better get you the shots you want and how much you want to spend.
@MikelCulchie I hope that I will get t3i at the end of november this year and I am saving my money. And I think
that i will make some short film inspired by this film! And thank you for behined the scenes.Great work ! I needed something like this before I will start shooting. Thanks!
@LJtutorials Thank you! Did you get a chance to check out the finished film itself? It's the most recent video I've uploaded to my profile. There's also a behind the scenes video where I talk about color correcting this CineStyle footage. Thanks for watching!
i always find the bts more interesting than the actual films, it just inspires me to keep making productions like this, i havnt seen the film yet, cant wait, ill go watch it after ive seen this and ill give you my feedback
@RedSpectrumPictures Thank you! That's awesome. The short film itself will come out on June 24 here on YouTube and on Vimeo. Be sure to check out the film's website: stop(dot)mikelwisler(dot)com. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@MikelCulchie Thank you very much! And which mic do you recommend for making short films like this?
Is something like Rode videomic or the external recorder zoom H4n/H1 good choice? Thanks!
