Light Yagami is a chilling bastard a piece of shit and a childish coward! He's nothing in comparison to "L" and as such I'm glad he dies at the end of the anime. As far as the manga ending is concerned, instead, I can only make myself imagining that the Shinigami boss will not give a damn about Light's consideration of himself being "God of the human new world" and laughing at this absurd idea will condemn him to the eternal suffering of living every single death he caused over and over again!

Light's the kind of character where most people would want him to die but at the end when he does die,you feel sad for him.I liked him until he started killing innocents and after he sort of lost his original objective (to cleanse the world of evil) he just wanted to become the God of the world towards the end.

I still think that Light was wrong, but he was still my favorite character. It's because I eventually viewed him as a villain, a really badass, and cunning villain. At the beginning I agreed with his sense of justice, but by the end I learned that evil is something that is present in all human beings, and that you can't just judge that a person dies because you think he has lost the right to live. Damn this anime is awesome.
