  • I wish he could be my grandpa. I'd make him tell me stories of his playing.

  • Picasso once said that true masters don´t lend they steal! I love Jimmie Vaughan. He´s the big bro.

  • great guitarist...not dissing him or anything, ya know, but he needs to think out his words before he talks, ya know

  • That was a fantastic explanation of my own "journey" learning the Blues Guitar as 'I' know it; really trimmed-down to just the "truths" of it all....Thanks Jimmie!!! You're my 'Idol'...

  • too bad he didn't have an amp handy.

  • I like the way he does it backwards.

  • Cool! JLV! Too cool for school!

  • @hungerstriker27, I'm hoping to go see Mr. Vaughan at the end of sept. when he plays Bass Performance Hall in Ft. Worth. I love how Jimmy doesn't use a pick... it gives his style his own "flavor". Anyway... go eat yor dinner!!! (jk, A lame attempt at humor bcuz of your name) XD

  • Poor Jimmy has to live in his brother's shadow now.... by all accounts, Jimmy was Stevie's BIGGEST guitar influence. I LOVE SRV, but give Jimmy his props too... he's a great blues guitarist in his own right.

  • @screenpuller

completely agree... the biggest srv influence was his major bro.... so srv was a prodigy, maybe jimmie don´t, but he is a great blues man. i just saw the thrill is gone in crossroads fest 2010. the best version i+ve saw. jimmie´s solo is simple, but so emotional he received the biggest aplause from the crowd

  • @proudandjoy I agree with you buddy!! You definitely know your SRV history!! Hey did you know SRV looked up to his brother?? I'm sure you did since you have seen him TWICE in concert!! Did you know SRV recorded an album with his brother?? I bet Jimmie did the record to cash in on SRVs fame!! Did you know Jimmie Vaughan was signed to a recording contract before SRV? Sure you did! Youve seen him twice! Have some repect you piece of shit!

  • @standad445 Stevie said that Jimmie was the best of them...

  • vaughan brother's was just fuckin E.T!

  • Comment removed

  • @proudandjoy

Jimmie made it too, pal. And he has a very cool guitar style. Heckuva guy. Very gracious.

  • He is such a great guy. I learned so much from his playing in my formative years. I can see why Stevie looked up to him as a player so much.

  • @guitarthroat Gotcha! Just cause he's his brother doesnt mean anything. As far as playing goes, he doesnt wow anyone but other average guitarists, at best. KENNY WAYNE SHEPHERD!!!!!!!!!!! ALL DAY EVRY DAY!!!

  • @wmc1103 What? KWS is a SRV clone. I've met and talked to him and he is a really nice guy. But do something original instead of imitation. Copying is pure shit. Everybody copies a little, but KWS is way the fuck overboard with it SRV. Do something original instead of trying to pass other's ideas off as your own. As far as your "average" comment. You are an arrogant asshole. And you will never be a success as a musician. So you criticize anyone who has been established in music.

  • @guitarthroat it sounds like you agree with me, but you aren;t into people "copying" others. fair enough. first, he isnt trying to pass it as his own, he openly celebrates stevie with his audience cause he knows we are also there to hear him play stevie. noone else even comes close. 2nd, if you actually listen to his cd's you will here him in a different voice, all his own. 3rd, some people, believe it or not, dont care about originality. lets be truthful, most original songs suck.

  • @wmc1103 its one thing to imitate, its another to fill a void that the public NEeds! btw, arrogant, maybe. in this case i think you were looking for the word "truthful". i here Jimmy say "if all the great players played then it was my turn, how would i seperate myself?" maybe if he stopped trying to be different but more like his bro he would be a much better player. if it wasnt for stevie he'd barely be on the map. thank god for "tough enough".

  • @wmc1103 Jimmie Vaughan wows more than the 'average' gtr player. If it wasn't for JLV there would be NO SRV!! Go listen to the early T-birds when they did a trio in the late 70's. T-birds (JLV) put Austin on the map.

  • "PLAY WHAT YOU WANTA HEAR."

    THAT IS SOME DEEP SHIT!

    THINK ABOUT IT!

  • @proudandjoy You proved my point. Thank you

  • @proudandjoy You're a complete idiot and obviously know NOTHING about both brothers history - not only in music but in their personal family background.

  • I bet Jimmy misses talkin' about music with his brother. I know I do. We could talk forever about all kinds of sounds. Left a big hole in my heart. Someone that just understood what I was really sayin'. I miss that. God bless you Jimmy V. You are the ROCK!

  • The interviewer was an ass.

  • i need interviews like this :P any blues artist send them to me =)

  • Jimmie rules, more interviews like that

  • Jimmie is one of my favourite guitar players of modern times, along with Anson Funderburgh and Bobby Radcliff.

I wish each one had a live concert DVD out.

  • Awesome video Jason! Very interesting! I have never heard anything quite like it! Cool! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • Jimmy is Good, but SRV is still the king of blues

  • @mafiakiller1000 BB King is the king of blues.

  • He was a 'tag along'...and will always be, check out his history....never a front runner like his 'baby brother'... Yes he steal's other style... he has no distinctive style of his own.

  • I think he a jerk. He never brings up his brother Stevie Ry, and give him credit for his talents... That was is real influence. Stevie ray was 10 times better....

  • @speckman2591 That is an incredibly stupid thing to say. SRV learned from Jimmie, not the other way round, so why should Jimmie talk about his baby brother when they are asking him stuff about his own style? Makes no sense. Also, the stuff towards the end about the importance of silences in music was really awesome. Confirms my theory that JV is the Miles Davis of the guitar.

  • @scrumpymanjack ...Oh really, Do some research. Where is JV in the top 100 guitarists of all time...NO where! SRV # 7 all time best guitarists...!!! SO, not giving SRV any credit and respect in that interview sucks!! Little brother or not...that has no bearing. I think JV just has anger deep down, because he will never be as good as his "little Brother'. He's living a pipe dream as a "wanna-be". No "style" whatsoever. SRV preformed outside the box! Mile Davis...??? Oh My!!

  • @speckman2591 So you think that JV should talk about SRV every time someone asks him a question? That's ridiculous. They're asking him about his influences. JV has a totally different style from his little brother (and I LOVE SRV, too, by the way) so it's only to be expected that he doesn't mention him. As for rankings, we're talking about music, not a running race. whether you like JV or not, he DOES have his own style and sound. You can tell it's him by listening to just one note.

  • @scrumpymanjack Show me one interview that JV has ever spoke high on his 'little bother'... JV has been and always be a tag along...not a front line performer. SRV music will last forever like Eric Clapton's has... SRV was ahead of his time. JV puts you too sleep...already...ho-hummmmmm Jimmy...who... ? JV is just OK. what running race would you put him in then...if he doesn't fall under the Eric Clapton, BB King... that was his own words Miles Davis...Not close! OMG!

  • @speckman2591 Do you understand English? I said that music is not a running race and so you ask me what running race I would put him in? Are you a fucking idiot? If you don't get JV, it really isn't my fault and, you know what....it's your loss. I get them both and they are both amazing. If you only get one of them, well, that's your problem and it's the end of the discussion. Life is too short to spend it trying to teach the blind to see. Good luck to you and yours.

  • @scrumpymanjack I think you are mistaken. The fuckin' idiot is you. You are the one that took exception to my comment. I don't have any "loss", where is there a losss..hahaha. No one ever said it was your "fault"....it' not a matter of "getting one of them" chill ..idiot. The original comment was just my opinion. Like Assholes like you, everyone has one. Take some Valium and cool off a bit dickhead. See a therapist...

  • @speckman2591 I will simply refer you back to your original comment: "I think he a jerk". That is idiotic and, even if it is what you think, it doesn't read. The lesson I've learned from this is not to get involved with people who can't think (or write English). I'm done with this conversation and with you.

  • @scrumpymanjack I would just like to say that I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Jimmie. It was in Austin and he was far from being a jerk. He took time to talk to me and my girlfrind, talk about his guitar that he was playing that night, and even talked about my home town and plus photos with him. JV's playing in Very original! That night, he performed 3 hours of jazz standards, all instrumental! That night of meeting this great guitarist changed my musical life forever! I

  • @speckman2591 u have to be one of the dumbest and ignorant people on youtube.. you ever think that maybe jimmie doesnt like talking about his brother b/c its such a sad tragedy. Just look at how it effects people who have never even meet or seen stevie now imagine if you where his brother. No matter how many years pass it would still be a very touchy topic.

  • @chalftits You have no fuckin idea what you are talking about. Obviously you don't know the history moran!!! Another idiot just born!! wow... JV is just average period. Numbers speak for themselves. get a hold of yourself and read some Rollingstone magazines... Dumb shit!

  • @speckman2591 The only idiot on here is you.

  • IF he sucked he wouldnt be playing anywhere he has his own style and that is awsome i wish more guys would find their own style instead of trying to sound like SRV or Jimi I can't tell you how many guys can't find their own sound they spend a small fortune trying to sound like Stevie. Enough already. I can't stand two bit hacks who thinkt hey know good music open your ears.

  • Good stuff

  • Jimmie....get down

  • listen up morons..Jimmie Vaughan is one of the best blues players to ever walk the earth..every player cops licks from those before him or even the 14y/o kid at the music store..that's how you learn and grow..Hendrix sat at Guy's feet with a freakin tape recorder to learn his stuff..get over it..JLV is master of less-is-more but if you think he's old guy who just finger-plucks some simple stuff, try playing like that or go back and watch his early stuff with the Tbirds, FYI grammy winner 4 blues

  • @Pre00 dont talk shit!

  • @guilirio GFY you non-playing hack..what kind of fag name is guilirio?..femboy..u wouldn't know guitar talent from your moms asshole

  • @guilirio oh..i see you're from Brazil, well that explains it..femboys playing soccer

  • @Gibson...Yes I know of many blues and rock guitarist that have nothing buy praise and admiration for Jimmie. I would know...I toured with him for 4 years, and co-wrote his "Do You Get The Blues" album...

    Respectfully,

    Greg Sain

  • im sorry, but this guy cant play the guitar.... i'm being very honest, im really sorry, but he actually sucks a lot!

  • Comment removed

  • @gibsonsggeni he doesn't have ANY original stuff (by that i mean way of picking strings, riffs and licks, etc). the way he "plucks" the strings is just plain awful, he also can't sing... have you ever watch any blues player saying ANY good stuff about him?

  • Comment removed

  • @guilirio peoples hawe different play styles! and yes iv listened to blues since i was born so yes

  • @guilirio sorry chief but you have no idea what your talking about it. just because it looks weird when he is plucking the strings doesnt mean anything. There could be the ugliest woman on the planet on stage and at the same time have the most beautiful voice in the world and just because she looks wierd, it doesnt take away from her voice. I suggest seeing jimmy live b4 you have bad mouth him again believe me you would be singing a different tune.

  • @chalftits im not saying its "ugly", please dont be dumb. im saying that IT SOUNDS BAD, it sounds like a blind kid who never touched any instrument

  • @guilirio actually, Buddy Guy, Clapton, SRV, B.B., Albert King, Ronnie Earl, Bonamasso, even keeny wayne shep' etc etc etc etc etc ALL praise Jimmie..if you sit on stage jamming with Clapton and BB to the blues i guess you're just a lucky bastard huh..tell me, when was the last time you were invited to play Crossroads?..stfu idiot until you know something about the blues/music..you're just shwoing your ignorance and age (which is probably 15)

  • @guilirio ..STFU you Brazilian fag..aren't all you fem buttrangers down there who wear speedos and play soccer?..hahahahaha..wtf do you know about american blues or the guitar..go rim your buddies cornhole 3rd world loser

  • Jason my name is Jerry Shadrick from Missouri I wounder if we are related. Some of my kin folks is Vince Shadrick, Olan Shadrick , my Dad is Owen Shadrick?

  • Back in the sixties I was madly in love with Jimmy! Then he had hair down to his waist and was nick-named cool hand just like Clapton because he played like Clapton in those days! He was with the Chessmen and they drove a hearse. I thought it was sooooooo cool!

  • Damn, how i'd love to go see him play!

Yeah, he's captain cool for sure, awesome!

  • @KeepOnBluesin I saw him. Small venue and i was so disappointed when it ended. If you can go see him.

  • Jimmie is Capt Cool

  • I just couldn't imaginehow anybody could be that cool.....

  • Best gig I ever went to was Fab T's at Marquee club,London, maybe 1980

  • Jimmie thanks for playing the way you do. I know what you mean about everybody trying to fill in all the time

  • Thanks for this, great to have an insight into the man, love his playing.

  • I hope he 'll make a DVD of all of that he learned.....it would be great for all guitar players....

  • Thanx a lot for this lesson!

    Werner

    Soulmatic

    NRBT

  • gotta love capos. Thank gawd for capos haha! Ahh but Jimmie makes it look so easy. This is shit I had to learn by ear most of my life. Still a trip..even tho its basic

  • this is great. Out of all guitar players, Jimmies approach is the one I've wanted to hear about most. Thank you for the post.

  • Honest interview with a guy who has balls and the licks. Gotta love Jimmie.

  • i miss his brother

  • awsome thanks

  • Good interview ! Thanks !

  • Perhaps the best concert I ever witnessed: 1994 Strange Pleasure tour. Backed up by 3 gospel singers.

  • Drinking at the font, friends. The man speaks the truth.

  • Great insight, thanks for getting some quality time with Jimmie...

  • Hi Jason. It's good to see you again with Jimmie. Good luck!

  • coming to madrid this week, so excited!

  • gotta say it again, Guitar Edge, thanks so much for this.

  • Just seen him live tonight!! Just pure authentic Blues! What an experience!!!! Still shocked;)!!

  • jimmie always gives props to the founding fathers of blues music! Jimmie Vaughan is Blues through and through. He is and always will be the king of Cool! He is just amazing and he will always be an amazing guitar player as well as an amazing person!

  • I agree - this is priceless. Jimmie is a total original who manages to both display his influences and yet sound very unique. And I love his singing.....

  • can anybody tell me what kind/brand of capo Jimmie is using here?

  • @jayscott49 I'm pretty certain Jimmie uses and endorses Shubb capos Jay.

  • This is priceless. JV's style is among the deepest and most personal in history,

and to hear him talk about it like this is something i never expected to see.

    Thanks so much!

  • @jayscott49 Jay, "priceless" is THE only way of describing this! The thing that really does it for me is picturing his heroes in a room before it comes to his turn. In my opinion, THAT is what blues is all about - having your own style - that's something money can't buy. The capo stuff is also cool, but of course, we can see him do that in countless videos - it's hearing about the thinking behind the approach he takes that makes this interview. Fascinating stuff - thank you Guitar Edge! :-)

  • @carpybv - hey Brian, i totally agree, it's the insight into how he thinks

about playing that matter here, i'm still amazed to actually get to hear

this from 'himself'. and yeah, '...it comes around to me, and what am i gonna do?'

copy what they already played? and 'play what you want to hear', the guitar gospel

there. and fits what you're doing too!
