No matter who u r, it is unlawful to hit urself. In the Quran it says that it is a great sin to kill oneself, hence it is also a sin to hurt oneself. Although I am sunni, there are many shiite who declare hitting oneself as a sin. SOme may argue that they do it for el Hassan and Hussain, radiyullahu 3anhum, it is still a sin. One instead should fast on Ashura in commemorating them, as many muslims do.
