overclocking is setting the cpu frequency (calculations per second) higher than it came with

2.4Ghz = 2.4 billion calculations per second

Overclocking allows you to unlock this, meaning that it can do more per second to reach a frequency of usually around 200-600 Mhz more.

Overclocking eventually leads to instability at higher clock speeds and to get the higher clocks you need to increase the voltage so that the electricity running through the cpu for each calculation isn't "diluted" too much

there is a tool called save a watt that you can plug into your outlet then your computer which calculates how many watts your computer uses. that is what i use.

It will Simply Tell You How Far Your Pc Can Be OverClocked, It may overclock on some motherboards but it depends on your model,
