If you knew U.S. history, you would know that Ron Paul is standing for exactly the same thing as the south. The sovereignty of the states, that is what that war was about. The south was fighting against absolute rule by the feds. The emancipation proclamation was much later and only freed the slaves held by the secessionist states. It did not free the slaves held by the northern states I.E. Kentucky. It's true history is written by the victor!
