One of the things that proves how awesome Dorothy is is that she manages to be incredibly sexy without any of the "obvious" visual cues you'd get from an anime girl (big boobs, excessive personality complex, scantily clad). She is very formally dressed, doesn't ever show any overt sexuality, and is neither endowed nor shapely in the "normal" sense. But her deadpan personality, wit, agility and toughness make her drop-dead gorgeous, inside and out.

I think that's the secret to Dorothy's appearance. She's not overly distorted as manga females go. Her eyes are plain and dark not huge and sparkly. Characterwise, sometimes she's an inquisitive innocent, sometimes irritated and peevish, and sometimes grudgingly affectionate.

You get the feeling sometimes that she actually DOES have emotions, she just won't admit it.

Best anime android. Also a serious contender for best anime "endearing sullen female" character -- she's better adjusted and more self-assertive than Evangelion's Rei; and her appearance is less diminutive/pandering than Nadesico's Ruri (who is still great). But Dorothy is more "real" than either.

I also like how, especially in the Season 1 art, she can look downright severe; she's not always a "pretty anime character."
