I'm a Nigerian; here it could be really funny a girl approaching a guy, though it happens but to us its quite strange because we believe it should start from a guy. its will take quite some boldness for some ladies here, many times such ladies are much enlightened. for me, what comes easy never last, so i prefare asking myself, not that a very bold 1 myself. meanwhile , u look really good.
I am trying to develop a life as a renown entertainer. I find it very attractive is a girl displays confidence as it is an aspect that would make our life coexist. If I find a woman that has rare qualities that I value I will approach her seeing her as something special to me.
As a fellow Belgium citizen (male though :p) I do not find it strange when a girl approaches a man for romantic reasons. If the girl would be feeling a strong connection with someone who does not know anything about that, the girl should not hesitate to try and get something working between both of them. As we all know, love often comes forth out of a random approach, whether the real feelings of love had been there already or not ;-)
As a student you hardly have the money to split the bill. Of course you should buy drinks though. I don't know. I live in Belgium too. Things are indeed very different here. Some girls don't seem to understand the concept of dating here...
i have girls approach me all the time, not unusual. and splitting the bill? some girls actually offer and persist in splitting the bill, because they either dont want to feel rude or atleast have some respect. when a guy asks if you want to split, then yea he is very uptight with money, say yes (as hes already put you in a moral situation) and then dont see him again. hes a jerk ONLY if he asks to split the bill or does so in a manipulative way. maybe you should date a Brit and see how its done.
Its very very okay for a girl to approach me and ask me out! :) Happens alot to me.. but i know that it shouldnt usually happen in my culture.. idk why it happens to me... but i like it. Also youre really cute!
i mean ,what kinda question is tht-if a girl approaches me,it depends who is asking my number,if some dumb fat girl is asking my number, will i give her number?well well ,ans is yes,y not,but again the purpose of dating is to know about other person, whether guy approaches girl first or girl approaches guy first,it doesnt matter.its important for both to approach each other .
I'm in the wrong country, i personally have no issue with a girl coming up to me and asking for my number. As fair as the dating scene it is a little weird from an out side view, hell even from my eyes its a little odd.
In my country men need to get closer to a woman while she dances (in disco),then get her a drink after dancing for a couple of minutes(but only if she is in to you). Of course men pay for everything , we never split bills (that's lame) .We have dates if a female is older than 27 .Any women below that age goes to the disco :) Anyhow i would start dancing with you :)
I personally hate the dating culture in this country. It seems so sexist to make the male be in charge of the initiation process of a relationship, and it's a pain in the ass. This just seems like one more thing that I love about Belgium. I've really only been to Brussels but I LOVED it and I'm definitely going back soon, hopefully to check out Antwerpen and Brugges.
Its okay to approach a guy. If he says yes or denies politely. then he's good. anything else and he's a jerk. And you need not worry about jerks. Go on.
The biggest thing about if a girl would approach me first would just be the confirmation that she's interested. The biggest worry involved in approaching someone is fear of rejection. And sometimes when you do make a move, you can't tell if they're interested. If I already knew for sure they were, everything would be easier.
I live in the US and have never seen that happen (as far as asking me out) but I have had a woman catch me as I was walking off the dance floor asking me to dance. I thought it was kool because it saved me the trouble of asking around for another person to dance with.
I love my Twinklybird! @SkyyJohn2 you should definitely use her question. Twinks, I would love it if a chick approached me for a change. It's hard enough trying to figure out what's going on inside girls' heads. If one just came up and asked me out, unless she was absolutely hideous or appeared crazy, I'd probably say yes. I'd just admire her moxie. Actually I had that happen once, felt great, kind of an ego boost. Said yes, cool girl, had a couple dates, didn't go long-term but that's dating.
Alright, so either I am one hell of an ugly piece of crap, or girls in Poland simply do not approach guys, ever. Actually, I cannot even imagine any woman simply accosting me in the street or in whatever place and starting off a conversation. Here, people rather tend to avoid looking anyone in the eyes and skulk in the shadows, as it were. Then again, that's might be just a sad reflection on my self-effacing and anti-social tendencies.
I am from the Netherlands only about 130 Km from Amsterdam some think that's close, but that's not what this comment is about.
here most of the time the guy asks the girl I'd rather have it the other way, but it depends on what they do if the guy pays. I learned to be the gentleman by holding the door and stuff but sometimes you split it or sometimes the guy pays and the girl only pays when she says I pay this time and the guy should not ask will you pay?
My only bother with the whole women feeling totally comfortable asking men out, is that it may have totally confirmed the fact that I was an unlovable loser.
I’m a really shy person and I know a lot of other guys are the same way so if girl would ask a guy out I think that would take a lot of pressure out from a lot of guys.
I have no problem with a girl asking a guy out tho I know a few guys and gals who think I'm wrong. I know if at a singles dance asking a guy just to dance
My girlfriend claims, bringing back times when she was single, that indeed, nowadays, guys just sit there and do nothing and girls get to have all the action! I don't know. I mean, I'm the traditional kind of guy who would like to be the one to start it up. However, that doesn't mean I wouldn't like it if a girl hit on me. On the contrary! I don't like society's cliches about what's a boy or a girl supposed or not to do! If a girl feels like it, she should go for they guy she likes!
@intermariogr i definitely agree with you on society's cliches I've actually heard a lot of women say that they would consider a girl "loose"(to put it lightly) if she were to hit on guy, clearly this is not something shared everywhere but i don't think i know a single man who has ever been asked out by a girl who wasn't by some means inebriated , i think i should move to Belgium lol
I've always been the one to make the first move, I don't think any of the girls I've dated would make the first move because they'd think of it as wrong. You know, no matter how long you wait, the guy should make the first move, this has been a favorite cliche mothers passed on to daughters where I live. However, I've heard of many many cases that the opposite happens.
lol fail note to self *Read comments before posting* i really hope u didn't DIE your hair that's just mean, dyeing your hair on the other hand makes a bit more sense :p
Most places in the USA are sprawled out and have no meaningful mass transit (trains, buses) as they have in Western Europe, so getting together means riding in a car with someone, which requires some prearrangement (that is, a "date"). So in Belgium, people can gather from wherever, then when anyone tires of company, they can just go home. Or, it could make no difference whatever, my mind's just rambling.
I live in the UK and I used to get approached by girls alot when I was in Secondary School (1991-1996), but I turned them all down as I was in love with (but not dating) another girl. Since then I have only been approached by women 2 or 3 times.
I don't mind being asked out by women, but I have had a few throw themselves at me (e.g. stripping without me asking). However, I find it hard relaxing around women with clothes, so to have them strip scares me off :(
Been saying this for years ...And I like to think I speak for most guys. I see nothing wrong with a girl asking a guy out. Especially if it's a guy she's really 'hot' for. And with the so called women's lib, equality and all that, I think it's long past that time. And if she has no problem paying for the whole date...I say go for it girls! The worst that can happen is you may get what a lot of us guys get :..."No Thanks."...But most of that would be in the 10% range...LOL!
@filmsfromthepoor First move is about taking action to get on the spot and make yourself approachable so she's aware of your presence..then start talking; if you are shy your first move could be that: Be approachable then try to do a hint: smile, give her a profound look.......
I love when girls come up to me and say "I have really small hands so anything will look big in my hands". Then im hooked, and I ALWAYS let the girls make the first move. Rarely happens though, :( forever alone!
@irjoelius Try and say to them '' Excuse me I notice you are passing by (doing whatever-bus stop, buying something, reading in a board) can you tell me how to get there'' Can you help me? I don't know how much it cost that! Where can I buy that where is not pricy! etc. When they start to talk just listen and start a convo make a joke out of it! Be yourself but be interesting (just casual) say: Oh I don't do this often I just ask this kinds of questions as a sport....I'm good at it (playful tone)
I would love to be the guy that can make the first move, but since I am so shy, I will be forever single unless a girl makes the first move, so I can say I would be scared to death, but hope shes interested enough to get past that, but then since I dont let people get to know me, no girl could possibly be that interested, and since I am no Jacob or Edward, there goes the sexual angle :(
@waltermh111 Protip: Don't think like that! I know it's hard, I'm a guy that used to suffer from the same problem.
It's all about the way you handle yourself. You gotta step up and be the man! Once you're thinking like "forever alone" "I'm a nerd" or whatever you'll make it harder on yourself to start and keep the conversation. You can be good with women if you set your mind to it. Make it part of yourself and keep striving. Remember, it's about relating as a MAN to a women.
@TijdTekort That's good advice, but for me it depends on the women. I find some women bring out my confidence by being warm and talkative to me, but those that are quiet I find it hard to talk to and break the ice.
@kinglonewolf104 Thanks, I learned it from RSD. For me it's exactly the opposite, when a girl is quiet it puts me more in the leadership position of the conversation. Confidence and such should not be depended on the girl or the conversation. I'm still struggling with it but I notice progression, that's what makes it all worth it. If a girl says mean things or tests me I don't care anymore. But starting a conversation is still hard for me.
@waltermh111 Oh In that case I recomend you to go to a Psychiatrist! XD lol NO SERIOUSLY get up on your feet and think! ''Ok I can do something different today if I propose myself to do it! '' So go and don't ask a girl out right away just have a normal conversation with her. Why not? Ask women advice from a woman! So if you think the shyness ingredient is there remove it with some activities I mean go out do a little workout (these are just tips) jogging, do something that turns you positive!
@Macnavor As nice as all the advice, I understand how hard it is for people to understand extreme shyness. I mean the type that has made me literally run away from situations
I also have fears from past issues. Deep defense mechanisms
As for psyciatrist, for sure that is a solution if I had the money to pay somebody to tell me the obvious, or maybe medication to fix things.
Sadly life isnt that simple.
But I deal with it my own way. I am not always sitting at home on the comp moping.
@Macnavor I know all the issues, I am analytical type, my own psycologist.
But knowing and acting on it are 2 different things.
But I am about to travel around the world for a few years. Maybe I will meet the right person on my trips, but mostly its a great way to enjoy the single life and so cheap for a minimalist like me.
@waltermh111 you are my reverse! I had never travel arround the world ( but a little outside the sand box) yet I got not problem talking to women. I wish I trade lifes with you for 5 hours. Yet I have a minimalistic perception as a graphic designer 5th semester student so I get you :)
The best that can happen to you is a girl who approach you first and that's not so uncommon this days, happened to me recently many times only with girls I had no interest in lol. The ones I liked ran away

@waltermh111 Hey man, I'm just like you...Seriously, I can completely relate to how you feel. I thought that for all intents and purposes I'd be alone forever...But I randomly met a girl through my friends about 6 months ago, and we fell in love, and now we consider eachother best friends. What's ironic is when I first met her, she was trying to get me to go out and socialize at the bar, and she said "who knows, you might meet the girl of your dreams", and it turned out she was speaking!
@waltermh111 I feel that we'll be extremely close for the rest of our lives, and even if it doesn't work out as far as marriage etc, I now have a totally different view. You sound like a very caring and nice person, and it is rare, but someone out there will appreciate you for that...I simply treat her how she deserves to be treated, no more no less, and she says nobody's ever treated her like I do. I know this is a corny story, but it's true, and you never know. Just have faith and patience.
@flip0052 I completely agree with you, but the problem is that women are much more emotional than most guys and are far more scared than us about being rejected.
I'm used to being laughed at and rejected as I'm a (thoroughbred) geek, so asking women out doesn't bother me that much.
I meet great women all the time, it's just unfortunate that they are already taken (or not interested).
-- If hes in US, its troublesome to ask, not that i would have a clue how to go about finding that out --
All I wanted him to do is to snap out of the monogamy brain set and realize that even if a girl is already taken, it does not automatically mean that you have lost and just give up without discovering if that is really the case. I was in his position many many many years only to discover that I was the cause that I stayed alone and had bad luck.
It is perfectly fine for girls to approach guys here in America. It happens all the time. I wouldn't married to the guy I'm with, if hadn't approached him. lol Peace, love, and blessings to you! <3
I'm from the Netherlands and i internet dated for years, wich is a great way to make friends (and go to see movies for free)
@Burlymachine, all woman want a man to hold the door and stuff, really, unless they don't want the rest of the world to know they are dating you. Wich would be rather sad. Just keep on doing it and they will stop complaining rather quickly.
@cutelittledevil88 I'm not sure which comment you replied to hah, I removed the spam ones.. I meant to erase after I submitted what I really *wanted* to say. My woman likes gentleman, I've always been that way regardless so it works out. I've never met a woman that enjoys doors being closed in her face though like that other guy was saying. Earlier I was saying boys play games, beat around the bush, & hide emotions, Men do not. (Carl Jung explains this perfectly) :)
here in The Netherlands it's pretty much the same as in Belgium. Not that mind blowing, considering we're neighbours and mostly speak the same language xD
its so sad that in these dirty godless european countries there is no proper dating just sleazy pervert sex whenever and with whoever is around after getting drunk and everyone is like a bisexual prostitute on drugs having abortions
Who wouldn't want to be asked out by someone, or approached by someone with an interest in you? You don't need to play silly little boy, or girl games. Be a man, or a woman and introduce yourself. On a date, actually ALWAYS I like to pay for both of us, hold the door etc. I was raised that way. A guy who wouldn't is either Too young, a douche bag, financially unstable, plays UNMANLY mind games of "non-interest", or in VERY RARE cases he is afraid of being too forward, or overly nice. Date a MAN
@BURLYMACHINE girls/woman likes a guy to be tough, not the sweety who holds the door open for her or put the chair under her ass LOL This is simply my experience ofcourse wich does not mean that all girls/woman are bitches! I know woman who refuse you to pay, they say "if l let you pay you expect sex from me"....l hate that stupid shit, but l'm glad my fiancee is nothing like that.....
@ForAfewMoviesMore My woman likes gentleman, I've always been that way regardless so it works out. I've never met a woman that enjoys doors being closed in her face though. As for if you pay you want sex thing, that just sounds like you live in Jersey Shore and I never want to meet a woman who says such things, that's what you call a girl, not a woman, huge difference. Same with Men, boys play games, beat around the bush, & hide emotions, Men do not. (Carl Jung explains this)
@BURLYMACHINE l think you generalize a bit too much, most woman (l met, l know, heard about, etc) like a man as in a man-man, or tough man....one who does not cry, one with a sports car, and a nice bank account, and they must be physically and mentally very strong. For those woman/girls manners (l am a gentleman like yourself) are not important whatsoever, they have other priorities. there do excist woman who do apreciate gentleman though, fact is (to me) that they are rare ==>
@ForAfewMoviesMore continued==> Same for paying for a woman, like dinner, or giving her something: most think when you do that, that it means only one thinhg, that's that us men want to f**k them the same day! Again, not every woman is like that, but l met lots of those.....and it's not only for Jersey Shore woman, Dutch, or Belgium woman...
I like girls that approach me. Good taste is attractive.

Some girls don't seem to understand the concept of dating here...
michiel2047 2 months ago
i have girls approach me all the time, not unusual. and splitting the bill? some girls actually offer and persist in splitting the bill, because they either dont want to feel rude or atleast have some respect. when a guy asks if you want to split, then yea he is very uptight with money, say yes (as hes already put you in a moral situation) and then dont see him again. hes a jerk ONLY if he asks to split the bill or does so in a manipulative way. maybe you should date a Brit and see how its done.

The biggest thing about if a girl would approach me first would just be the confirmation that she's interested. The biggest worry involved in approaching someone is fear of rejection. And sometimes when you do make a move, you can't tell if they're interested. If I already knew for sure they were, everything would be easier.

If a girl feels like it, she should go for they guy she likes!
intermariogr 2 months ago
@intermariogr i definitely agree with you on society's cliches I've actually heard a lot of women say that they would consider a girl "loose"(to put it lightly) if she were to hit on guy, clearly this is not something shared everywhere but i don't think i know a single man who has ever been asked out by a girl who wasn't by some means inebriated , i think i should move to Belgium lol

I've always been the one to make the first move, I don't think any of the girls I've dated would make the first move because they'd think of it as wrong.

Interesting question, Josie.

I would love to be the guy that can make the first move, but since I am so shy, I will be forever single unless a girl makes the first move, so I can say I would be scared to death, but hope shes interested enough to get past that, but then since I dont let people get to know me, no girl could possibly be that interested, and since I am no Jacob or Edward, there goes the sexual angle :(
Forever alone :(
waltermh111 2 months ago 11
@waltermh111 Protip: Don't think like that! I know it's hard, I'm a guy that used to suffer from the same problem.
It's all about the way you handle yourself. You gotta step up and be the man! Once you're thinking like "forever alone" "I'm a nerd" or whatever you'll make it harder on yourself to start and keep the conversation. You can be good with women if you set your mind to it. Make it part of yourself and keep striving. Remember, it's about relating as a MAN to a women.
TijdTekort 2 months ago
@TijdTekort That's good advice, but for me it depends on the women. I find some women bring out my confidence by being warm and talkative to me, but those that are quiet I find it hard to talk to and break the ice.
&eB
kinglonewolf104 2 months ago
@kinglonewolf104 Thanks, I learned it from RSD. For me it's exactly the opposite, when a girl is quiet it puts me more in the leadership position of the conversation. Confidence and such should not be depended on the girl or the conversation. I'm still struggling with it but I notice progression, that's what makes it all worth it. If a girl says mean things or tests me I don't care anymore. But starting a conversation is still hard for me.
TijdTekort 2 months ago
@waltermh111 Oh In that case I recomend you to go to a Psychiatrist! XD lol NO SERIOUSLY get up on your feet and think! ''Ok I can do something different today if I propose myself to do it! '' So go and don't ask a girl out right away just have a normal conversation with her. Why not? Ask women advice from a woman! So if you think the shyness ingredient is there remove it with some activities I mean go out do a little workout (these are just tips) jogging, do something that turns you positive!
Macnavor 2 months ago
@Macnavor As nice as all the advice, I understand how hard it is for people to understand extreme shyness. I mean the type that has made me literally run away from situations
I also have fears from past issues. Deep defense mechanisms
As for psyciatrist, for sure that is a solution if I had the money to pay somebody to tell me the obvious, or maybe medication to fix things.
Sadly life isnt that simple.
But I deal with it my own way. I am not always sitting at home on the comp moping.

For sure monogomy is in fact uncommon, but with how often people are shocked at that fact, and our way of viewing sex...
Well, it reminds me of this story. Sex-positive activist is at some unrelated art exhibit and asked not to discuss sex there lol
But shes well known for her work, and some lawyer and his wife go to her and whisper that they are swingers, nobody else knew

@waltermh111

Date a MAN

ForAfewMoviesMore 2 months ago
@ForAfewMoviesMore continued==> Same for paying for a woman, like dinner, or giving her something: most think when you do that, that it means only one thinhg, that's that us men want to f**k them the same day!
