Whoever rear ended the van is a fuckin moron. He/She had ample time to stop. The driver should be diligent of what's in front of him. Good luck with your insurance hike hobo, you deserve it.
The filming driver apparently has 0 sense of depth perception.
When a vehicle is suddenly getting much larger in your windshield, you should probably slow down before you have an intimate encounter as seen here. You could see the guy was preparing to stop about 5 seconds before the "crash".
Ok it was neither of thier faults although I do see both of them being at fault in two different scenarios. First off, if the toll way they where passing is an Express pass which means no stopping to pay for the toll then the vehicle is suppose to keep going but in this case there was a toll gate which I think is so stupid when you have the E-pass. So I guess the guy behind was confident he was going to go straight. Second, the guy in the van probably did not have an E-pass hence the accident.
That's the whole point of driving at a safe distance from the car in front - just in case they brake for no apparent reason.
It's a minimum safety standard.
Regardless of whether he should or shouldn't have stopped in that lane if the driver behind had kept a safe distance he would have had time to stop safely.
I fail to understand why people blame other people for their own mistakes.
You were too close to him when you were going through the booth, but he is the fucking idiot for slamming on his brakes in the middle of the road. Fucking minivan drivers!
i dont know what kind of rules there are, specifically for driving, but i would think that if there was no legitimate reason to stop in traffic (and then get rear ended) the person who got hit would be considered to have obstructed traffic, thus losing the case?.....
@MrJosh112358 I agree with you 110%, but unfortunately there is zero leniency for that kind of thing. It's automatically your fault every time if you hit somebody from behind, no matter how stupid the guy in front of you might be. It's the same for hitting people. If somebody jumps from an overpass and hits your car, or if someone jumps off the sidewalk and you hit them it's automatically your fault. The 'logic' behind it is that you should be in control of your car enough to stop in time.
@CptSchmidt Your talking nonsense regarding the people that jump from the sidewalk.UNLESS its a crosswalk,if some one jumps in front of your car you won't even get a ticked, nothing!people should stay on the sidewalk that's what it's for.In the case of crosswalks however it's another story:they can run/jump in front of you and it;s your fault. And the 'logic' behind the rules is:1)you need to keep a safe distance between you and the car in front of you. 2)Slow down near crosswalks and look for ppl
Once when I went through, my macpass wouldn't work so I just sat there for a few seconds becuase I didn't know what to do, then the lady who was in front of one of the lanes yelled and told me to go so I went anyway and heard the buzzer beep.
I was afraid the bridge patrol would come after me for not paying, lol. I was nervous becuase I'm still a new driver and wanted to keep a clean record, at least until I got the N off my license, or otherwise it would be bad for me.
@xLonelyAspiex Because it's the drive-thru toll section. He didn't stop, either - not until he remembered he didn't have a MacPass. By the time I entered the toll section, he nailed his brakes and I drove into the back of him. You're not supposed to stop in that lane.
@CptSchmidt in germany the cops would say that you did not had enough safety distance, so it would be also your fault . tell me how your case ended? :)
@CptSchmidt You are supposed to be in control of your motor vehicle at all times. No matter where you are. If the alarm goes off on the bridge approach, you ARE supposed to stop, that what the alarm is for. If you rear end someone, regardless of why, you are in the wrong. Sorry.
ughh god, I just did this today!! Traffic was stopped and I didn't see it because I kept looking to switch lanes and bam I did exactley this, I tried to stop just not enough room! frick...
@DeltaAirlinesFlyer im a dumbass... you stupid fucking tailgater learn how to drive mofo. i know the facts even the original poster says he was found to be at fault. you stupid wanker
Oh no!!... hey you know where that clip is of a semi rig gettin its top clipped off from going thru the low toll lane? ,, it was on the mackay bridge I cant find it.. :/
@Bryant5493 Yeah. The guy had a rental and didn't realise he didn't have his MacPass. The MacPass is just a chip you install behind your rearview mirror that's laser-scanned as you drive through the toll. Instead of just pushing through the toll arm he decided to go from 50kmph to zero and this is what happened.
You were following too close. Your fault. Doesn't matter what he stopped for or how fast he stopped. But that being said the 2-3 second rule is a good rule. But you were actually just a little over 1 second. Like I sad ....your fault.
The first time I visited the US I did this. Luckily, no accident came of it and at the time I didn't really see it as dangerous. Now I very aware, though...
