I read the comments on the video I just watched (of yours) and IT NEVER FAILS THAT SOME DUMBASSED KID SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT YOU BEING OLD OR TOO OLD FOR YOUTUBE!! Usually you have 'em covered, but if no one's said anything, I reply and tell 'em if it weren't for people over 45, there wouldn't be computers OR the internet and then I tell them to go to the Jonas Brothers channel and stay there before being age-discriminators!!

youtube live is just bullcrap, it is youtube trying to be MTV. Youtube is trying to appeal to coroporate sponsors, and they are doing that by shunning the actual user-generated content that got them big in the first place.
YouTube sold out a loooooong time ago. I thought the live special was a huge joke. There are an enormous number of amazingly talented people on YouTube, like yourself, and I wish you and all the rest of them nothing but the best! And if YouTube doesn't want to invite you or any of the others to their pathetic little pseudo-Hollywoodesque soirees, then fuck 'em. The rest of us will make our own fun at the gatherings.
After watching the first 10 minutes of this "Live" fiasco, I was terribly disappointed to see that the only people who seem to be so-called stars of YouTube were those who had the mentality of an 11-year old. The more I watched it, the worse it got. You ARE right - the major contributors of YouTube's success were purposely ignored. This certainly tells us a lot about the management of this site, and how much the managers are drawn to self-absorbed teenagers with little to no talent. Pity.

However, I simply don't wander through Youtube enough to be the best judge. I don't know why you weren't not ask to be a part of the event. However, I will ask and get back to you with an answer.

Zip I totally agree with you here they should of had some of the original You Tubers there. It was the people who were here 2 to3 years ago that gave this site its start. We where and for the most part still its core.

Exactly. I felt like it was copycatting what is done on TV...sort of a mix of MTV, American Idol, and Miss America. I enjoyed some of it, but it didn't come close to capturing the essence of what Youtube has meant to me.

Zipster, you're right 1000%. Some kid playing Aerosmith at 8 years old can get more views than the real Aerosmith at 60. Soulja Boy was there so I didn't miss much.
There are so many people who would've really shown what YouTube is really about. Most of the acts that were on there are by people I don't even watch. Some of the acts were really good but a lot of it was just that rap crap that the kids listen to these days. YouTube Live was more for publicity to pull new people to the site. It definitely wasn't oriented toward the people of the community.

It is the types of people/characters who are ignored by TV that makes this place special. They have a voice here. YouTube is not a place exclusively for the beautiful and young. That's why it's great. Shame on YT for not recognizing that in order to make a few bucks.

it just goes to show you how YouTube (since being bought by Google) has gone corporate...they want the money and the power so they are trying to "hook" younger viewers...I'm quite surprised other people werent there like KevJumba, SxePhil, Chris Crocker, even the Lonelygirl 15 who helped start YouTube (not that I'm fans of theirs but they do draw big numbers and are even on their own YouTube show "hooking up")...they seemed to stick with people that were "safe" and censored ~ complete b.s.
I'm also left wondering if they are trying to "brand" their own type of celebrity...they chose who got to attend, watch or perform...and those are the people that are going to get the fall out views for new people to YouTube...kinda guarantees those people an audience...not fair.

well I did not even know who over 85% of the people on there were. I do watch william sledd.. but geesh.. he has not even made a video in like forever. and then months in between the others. I have no idea why they did not show the 'real' youtubers. I think I agree with your theory.

Exactly. I felt like it was copycatting what is done on TV...sort of a mix of MTV, American Idol, and Miss America. I enjoyed some of it, but it didn't come close to capturing the essence of what Youtube has meant to me.

BTW I look forward to you and Loco's videos, and always pull them up when I have company. Everyone always gets a great laugh, and they alway make sure they go home with your username. you were invited? I must be on some sort of internal shit list. (I am not saying why, it could be a case that for some reason there was a concern about 'fair use' and when the issue was resolved they never bothered to take me of some sort of internal list, I don't know, but I do think, hope, that it can be resolved because they don't even have me listed as a Partner or in News and Politics and I don't get promoted so I lose out on a lot of exposure. People, lease show solidarity and subscribe.

And Zipster does make somewhat of a good point. I think what they should have done is have people vote for what they wanted. But the Mythbusters aren't kids although I think that segment was stale, a Zipster segment would have been more lively.

I realize I'm not the target audience -- I AM too old for the crowd they got together. Heck, when I signed up, Geriatric was number one. I wish they would have brought him in, along with others like Nalts, you, etc...
But let's be realistic - YouTube wants the 13 year olds now. Heck, I'm a 20-something (at least for a little longer!) And I felt too old for some of the show.
Oh well, maybe they'll have a "YouTube Old" special for the adults in the room.

Last night on youtube live, I don't think they had many people on there at all above their 20's and that's not right/fair!

There are so many people who would've really shown what YouTube is really about. Most of the acts that were on there are by people I don't even watch. Some of the acts were really good but a lot of it was just that rap crap that the kids listen to these days. YouTube Live was more for publicity to pull new people to the site. It definitely wasn't oriented toward the people of the community.

It is the types of people/characters who are ignored by TV that makes this place special. They have a voice here. YouTube is not a place exclusively for the beautiful and young. That's why it's great. Shame on YT for not recognizing that in order to make a few bucks.

Why does everyone still believe that you tube, is a bunch of hippies giving away bandwidth for free from a magic fairy. It's a corporation that's losing money. This is marketing it's capitalism, no age doesn't sell to a young market, sorry:( neither do ties of loyalty. As i sat there, i thought the same thing as you, why were there not MORE of the original youtubers present or in the show, the answer, youtube editiors have really changed and moved on and they forgotten their roots. In their furious clawing to become the next MTV, Youtube has lost all respectability. The actual talent has been lost in the scramble for what's the next hot piece of shit, and it's sad because it's yet another venue that has been tainted by superficiality. They will ruin their own phenomenal technology to do it. All the more reason Obama shouldn't be using this site.
And I don't believe it's a sound argument to blame Google.

it just goes to show you how YouTube (since being bought by Google) has gone corporate...they want the money and the power so they are trying to "hook" younger viewers...I'm quite surprised other people werent there like KevJumba, SxePhil, Chris Crocker, even the Lonelygirl 15 who helped start YouTube (not that I'm fans of theirs but they do draw big numbers and are even on their own YouTube show "hooking up")...they seemed to stick with people that were "safe" and censored ~ complete b.s.

I'm also left wondering if they are trying to "brand" their own type of celebrity...they chose who got to attend, watch or perform...and those are the people that are going to get the fall out views for new people to YouTube...kinda guarantees those people an audience...not fair.
