You people don't even understand the song. This is not the celebration song you hear on the radio this is the original version talking about his life in Somalia, he was born in the worlds most violent city in the world ( I forget the name) and it's about how him and his two best friends were playing in the street and they both got shot and killed and he was able to escape.
Now, if you were at a concert and were listening to this song, would you clap, cheer, screem..etc its just not appropriate
@erico146 He played this live at lollapalooza 2 years ago... one of the most amazing and powerful performances I've ever seen.
I love K'naan... but he keeps doing these poppy radio friendly remixes of songs that were amazing. They're still good, but do not come close to the originals.
This was 2008. Those who've heard the troubadour and world cup versions find it hard to accept that Wavin' Flag evolved from a dark and tragic story (like many of his works) meant to be recited rather than sung.
Evident for many years in his performances, K'Naan's artistry is definitely the poetry; the music and beats are just the media for the story to be told. This poetry is what makes him a level above the traditional hip-hop artist.
Gonna be honest, it's pretty hard to have the feeling to clap and sing if you're not from that kind of background. It's a pretty sombre story for most Canadians to hear.
Canada's just a more friendly more healthy more liberal more Democratic version of America what's not to love.Did I mention there not as fat and mostly smarter lol and no I'm not Canadian

Toronto is a joke, there is just too much talk about it being posh and popular, but everyone I know of can't stand it there. well, just look at them at a concert
I was referring to him singing about what happened to him and his friends back in Somalia - that it was a pretty sombre story. But it does get more lively about halfway thorugh the video so they could have sung more then...
im pretty sure it is a description of his young life like phrases like "born to a throne" and "poor people zone" and also how 2 good friends of his died when they were walking on the beach and they were both shot i actually think there is a video of him explaining this song somewhere on youtube
