The WiFi on the iPhone is for Internet access. Someone would have to make a special application to use it for something else.

In the U.S. the new data plan is $30 and is unlimited. It is for Web browsing, email, and other net applications, but not SMS.

so, im an at&t user right now and im 6 months into my plan with a crappy sony ericsson w580i and i want to upgrade and im eligable.

will this only cost the 18$upgrade fee, plus the 200$ iphone3g, and the additional 30$ a month for data plan or do i not even need the data plan?

thanks for this info! :) so... does that mean you only have 2 choices for sms? 5 bucks for 200 or 20 cents per message? that's kind of a rip off... since i text a lot. that makes me not want to get an iPhone so much anymore.
