  • What a scumbag, you can tell Letterman was friends with him

  • For full effect: I recommend everyone watch these videos in the order fivealex2009 has put them up. I just did videos 17 to 25 straight.....great to see the chemistry build as the appearances went on.

  • he actually used to be funny.. wtf happened

  • Leno actually used to be very funny... now though, it's a different story.

  • i hate jay chin-o

  • jay leno class act!

  • Jay Leno and David Letterman at the same time.................FTW!

  • Kinda sad how they were friends here & became enemies later.

  • leno was so coool! he owned lettermans ass in this one..!

  • "Man of the people." What a phony.

  • ...and then he became super famous and a multi millonaire and he became an a**hole

  • ok im with team coco...couple of points i wanna make

jay bak in the 80s was a stand up comic...looking after number 1

jay gets the tonight show in bad way...but still business is business

jaty goes bak to the tonight show, the show he was forced to leave.....buisness is buisness

all i can say is that all stand up comics in the 80s who made it big, leno, seinfeld, hicks etc...fair play to em

jay and dave know it wasnt personal..it was just buisness

    they are still buddies

  • @daedralord1 Hicks never made it big, he would have if he didnt die so early. The only way Hicks made it big is if you count Dennis Leary's career which was made possible by stolen Hicks meterial.

  • @SeaTac411 Hicks had such an awesome take on Jay Leno!

  • Dam, Thew were writing for Jimmy Walker. Shi-, how things change.

  • So sad that there friendship has ended

  • a man who manages wrestlers LOL

  • I wish Jay would be on Dave's show again.

  • everyone hates leno now after what he pulled with conan

  • Liberal bastids!

  • Leno looks like an evil cartoon

  • I love Leno and Dave in these days

  • @jimmbo13 These two always interacted well together and the results were great.

  • a couple of jack asses shootin the shit

  • I prefer Lettermans Show

  • you prefer old perverts...

  • Letterman is a pervert because he had a relationship with a younger women, and one that happened to work for him? Please. I'll grant you that it's a bad idea from the standpoint of being a boss, and the fact that he had a girlfriend at the time, but it hardly makes him a pervert per se.

As to the topic being discussed, in my opinion Letterman has a much stronger wit and intellect than Leno, and he's just funnier. Being that entertainment is subjective it's pointless to argue who is better so...

  • @JoeDestruction That's one of the "perks" of being the boss, but you would never understand that because you're an inbread idiot and your mom's a whore!

  • @Iamonad Wow, very intellectual response there, gotta love the mom jokes, very 1st grade, nice work. Is this the part where I'm supposed to care what you think? Yeah, I'll get right on that...

So, I'm inbred (you can't even spell that right, moron) because I don't think Letterman is a pervert for being a horny dude? It was certainly poor management but at some point it is human nature, if you're too stupid to figure that out then there's no point in trying to explain it to you. Later.

  • @JoeDestruction Since you enjoyed the last comment so much, here's a bit more, "your father likes to suck big, black cock dressed in a lavender and pink to-to!"

How do you like me now, bitch?

  • @Iamonad Very nice, you're doing a perfect job of demonstrating what a total douche you are, good work there sally! (And the bad spelling continues to further show what a 'tard you are too.) Later jackass, get a life.

  • @JoeDestruction Does this mean we can't be friends?

  • @JoeDestruction Not sure who is dumber, the guy trolling you or the fact that you "Tried" to correct him 4 times and defend yourself on youtube blogs haha

  • @davidgsr2k Whatever, I was just stating FACTS, the guy is a douche. And besides, if You Tube 'blogs' are so horrible what the fuck are you doing here reading it?!

  • haha very funny,

    now fuck off

  • Good moment between these two. Before the bullshit.

  • Oh yeah, I remember back when Leno was still funny!

  • leno was never funny

  • you wish...

  • grow up...

  • Wow, these two really go a long way back. It's kind of strange that now they can't even see eye to eye.

  • Leno sucked even back then. I keep hearing how great a comedian he was before he sold his soul, but man he really sucks here.

  • He seemed like he had a soul then.

  • girlie man...

  • guffaw?

  • as cordial as all this seems, even then leno had a kind of slimyness to him.

  • is it me or jay leno looks like RAYWILLIAMJOHNSON?

  • a little a little. maybe theyr related hahah

  • hmmm, add about 15 pounds of chin meat and he might

  • they got the same haircut too

  • wow they looked like they used to be good friends

  • The Tonight Show debacle of the early 90's was the turning point. So much back stabbing, hurt feelings, and resentment, all over a television show. It's sad that it happened then and it's sad that history has repeated itself.

  • whoa...i just saw "the late shift" movie and now watching this im like...damn

  • I love the joke about Sweden :D

  • And CoCo, hurry up and get yo translucent white ass back to the East Coast!

  • Just watched HBO's "The Late Shift", it's kind of interesting watching classic Leno/Letterman videos after watching that movie.

I'm guessing what's going on right now with Conan/Jay and NBC is similar to what went on back in the 90s. It's not all Jay's fault, it's the NBC executives, the "nitwits" "pinheads" "knuckle-draggers" and "mouth-breathers" as Letterman called them lol.

I don't think Leno would want to be remembered as the bad guy forever, I'm sure it's more complicated than it looks.

  • was this before leno backstabbed letterman out of his dream job?

  • dave is the king of late night for a reason.

leno just seems like a backstabing unfunny guy.

  • I miss honest TV like this

  • what a faggot guinea douchebag

  • ugly ass set

  • Where can I get one of those T-Shirts? I want one! ;-)

  • that premiered line was pretty good.

  • Comment removed

  • god, this vids in shit shape, but whatever!!

    love 'em both!

  • wow, this was during the first writers strike

  • Letterman gets Leno busted in the end of this video. haha!

  • jay guest hosted for carson for 8 yrs. you dont think he had some claim to the show himself? and you think jay was the one to make the decision FOR nbc? i guess you're suggesting jay should have turned down the job when it was offered. well in the same vain, letterman would have also had to turn it down out of fairness to jay then, right? but even if jay did turn it down, what if nbc picked someone ELSE besides letterman so neither get the show. thats just dumb and letterman is a poor sport.

  • Jay guest hosted for carson for 8 years .... where he proved that his best move was competing with the guests interjecting gross tension into the show...... & they gave Leno the tonight show anyway.

After being forced to retire Carson appeared on Lettermans show, He never said a word, was given a stand ovation the entire time. It was a magic moment where Carson handed off the late night mantle to Letterman. to this day Leno runs in Carsons wake.

  • This is how I've always thought of the situation and I've tried to argue that if Leno had asked Letterman's advice, there is no way Letterman would have told him to turn down the freaking Tonight Show. If Leno had said, "Dave, they offered me the show, should I take it?" and Letterman said, "No," and then took the show himself? How would he have looked? Leno was getting the show as soon as it was offered, end of story. I think NBC would have offered it to someone else other than Dave, too.

  • Uh, no, gunsofmass.. Leno's manager and NBC schemed to get Johnny out of the job. He retired because of the negative press SHE leaked to the press.

  • Yeah, that's what happened. Dummy.

  • aw, i love these two. i've been reading lately that leno wants to end the feud..he even wrote letterman a letter, but apparently there was no response. but i've also just read that letterman wants leno on his show the night conan takes over... i'm hoping something happens! these guys have the perfect comedic relationship. i say, just get over it already!!

  • It's amazing how close the two were at one point.

  • I cant see how these two mature men can still be mad at each other...they should start being on each others shows

  • why are they mad at each other?

  • Leno got the Tonight Show that Dave had hoped and expected to get...

  • If they werent taping a whole country away from each other, they would have already.

  • I doubt thats the reason...Kimmel and Ferguson go on Letterman theyre just as far from NY

  • His manager made him wear that shirt . She was clever.

  • the age of legal age of consent in sweden is 15 not 14;)

  • no its 9 ; )

  • The writers strike allowed for one of Letterman's great periods. And Carson, meanwhile, started writing his own monologues. It was terrific. 1988 was just yesterday.

  • I agree but it was 21 years ago,not exactly "yesterday".

  • Dave sporting the cigar.

  • The writer's strike began in March 1988; Letterman says it's 4 or 5 months later, so this is July or August, 1988.

  • Good guess! This clip's from July 7, 1988.

  • This is great. I love the obvious affection they have for the time period that's shining through as Jay makes his way through the notebook.
