@daedralord1 Hicks never made it big, he would have if he didnt die so early. The only way Hicks made it big is if you count Dennis Leary's career which was made possible by stolen Hicks meterial.
Letterman is a pervert because he had a relationship with a younger women, and one that happened to work for him? Please. I'll grant you that it's a bad idea from the standpoint of being a boss, and the fact that he had a girlfriend at the time, but it hardly makes him a pervert per se.
As to the topic being discussed, in my opinion Letterman has a much stronger wit and intellect than Leno, and he's just funnier. Being that entertainment is subjective it's pointless to argue who is better so...
@JoeDestruction That's one of the "perks" of being the boss, but you would never understand that because you're an inbread idiot and your mom's a whore!
@Iamonad Wow, very intellectual response there, gotta love the mom jokes, very 1st grade, nice work. Is this the part where I'm supposed to care what you think? Yeah, I'll get right on that...
So, I'm inbred (you can't even spell that right, moron) because I don't think Letterman is a pervert for being a horny dude? It was certainly poor management but at some point it is human nature, if you're too stupid to figure that out then there's no point in trying to explain it to you. Later.
@JoeDestruction Since you enjoyed the last comment so much, here's a bit more, "your father likes to suck big, black cock dressed in a lavender and pink to-to!"
@Iamonad Very nice, you're doing a perfect job of demonstrating what a total douche you are, good work there sally! (And the bad spelling continues to further show what a 'tard you are too.) Later jackass, get a life.
@JoeDestruction Not sure who is dumber, the guy trolling you or the fact that you "Tried" to correct him 4 times and defend yourself on youtube blogs haha
@davidgsr2k Whatever, I was just stating FACTS, the guy is a douche. And besides, if You Tube 'blogs' are so horrible what the fuck are you doing here reading it?!
The Tonight Show debacle of the early 90's was the turning point. So much back stabbing, hurt feelings, and resentment, all over a television show. It's sad that it happened then and it's sad that history has repeated itself.
Just watched HBO's "The Late Shift", it's kind of interesting watching classic Leno/Letterman videos after watching that movie.
I'm guessing what's going on right now with Conan/Jay and NBC is similar to what went on back in the 90s. It's not all Jay's fault, it's the NBC executives, the "nitwits" "pinheads" "knuckle-draggers" and "mouth-breathers" as Letterman called them lol.
I don't think Leno would want to be remembered as the bad guy forever, I'm sure it's more complicated than it looks.
jay guest hosted for carson for 8 yrs. you dont think he had some claim to the show himself? and you think jay was the one to make the decision FOR nbc? i guess you're suggesting jay should have turned down the job when it was offered. well in the same vain, letterman would have also had to turn it down out of fairness to jay then, right? but even if jay did turn it down, what if nbc picked someone ELSE besides letterman so neither get the show. thats just dumb and letterman is a poor sport.
Jay guest hosted for carson for 8 years .... where he proved that his best move was competing with the guests interjecting gross tension into the show...... & they gave Leno the tonight show anyway.
After being forced to retire Carson appeared on Lettermans show, He never said a word, was given a stand ovation the entire time. It was a magic moment where Carson handed off the late night mantle to Letterman. to this day Leno runs in Carsons wake.
This is how I've always thought of the situation and I've tried to argue that if Leno had asked Letterman's advice, there is no way Letterman would have told him to turn down the freaking Tonight Show. If Leno had said, "Dave, they offered me the show, should I take it?" and Letterman said, "No," and then took the show himself? How would he have looked? Leno was getting the show as soon as it was offered, end of story. I think NBC would have offered it to someone else other than Dave, too.
aw, i love these two. i've been reading lately that leno wants to end the feud..he even wrote letterman a letter, but apparently there was no response. but i've also just read that letterman wants leno on his show the night conan takes over... i'm hoping something happens! these guys have the perfect comedic relationship. i say, just get over it already!!
The writers strike allowed for one of Letterman's great periods. And Carson, meanwhile, started writing his own monologues. It was terrific. 1988 was just yesterday.
What a scumbag, you can tell Letterman was friends with him

The writer's strike began in March 1988; Letterman says it's 4 or 5 months later, so this is July or August, 1988.
