If that bear jumped up suddenly he could have done some real damage to you. I also hate the ANimal freaks in here that value animal life more than human life.

Why not fight him with a knife, instead of putting out smelly stuff to attract the bear and then shooting him with a bow? you were pretty much invisible to the bear, where is the sport in that? The reason we do this is because we respect the animals we hunt, but in the winter most animals have very little food for the high population and if we hunt that gives a better food to animal ratio for the others so they can produce good off spring and be healthy for the next season. We do NOT just slaughter animals for the hell of it! Everything we do, and all the laws have a reason!

Black bears aren't even threatened in the U.S.A. unlike what some of these people keep saying. There are so many of them in New York that they are starting to come into the suburban areas to get food. I live 20 miles from where any bears should be, yet they are still seen all the time in my neighborhood. I agree with other people...if you don't like hunting don't watch the videos.
Now, because its a legal activity each person must decided on the morality of the act. I'd say, if you don't condone hunting, just don't watch the videos. DNR counts indicate bears are no where near extinction in that state. If there was any concern about populations they would be on the endangered species list (which they are not). So we should put that fear to rest.
I not an expert on wildlife, but I think there are seasons on animals when there is an abundance of them. If the DNR was concerned about the population they would reduce license counts or suspend the season. From my checking I found at least 8 of the lower 48 states have seasons. The Minnesota DNR site gives us a estimated population in the tens of thousands in that state alone.

The guy in the video no doubt spent $1000's on that trip, and there is no guaranty that he would even get a shot. All sorts of things go through your head as you take the shot. You worry that your skill or your equipment aren't good enough. It's called "buck fever." and it's a very tough psychological hurdle to overcome.

I'm a hunter and it just pisses me off when ignorant incompetent people come on and bash hunting and hunters. If they want to eat rabbit food that's fine by me I couldn't care less but when you make such a big deal about someone ethically harvesting an animal to feed themselves and their family then you my friend are the one with the problem. I also want to say that this is a well done video showing some great hunts. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I have hunted bear with my bow over the years (unsuccessful and successfully), either way, the hunt isn't as easy as the videos suggest. Anti-hunters can not understand the whole hunting experience, it is about impossible to explain it to them. So I don't bother.
Hunters shouldn't be "thin skinned" and fall on to coarse language when challenged by the anti-hunter. This kind of language from hunters reflects poorly on the entire hunting community and can turn the non-hunter against hunting. My advice to the hunter, don't let these misguided anti-hunters draw you into a conversation that makes you look ignorant or worst.

@1982FMJ You know what, I see your side of the story but what we are saying is true! The reason we do this is because we respect the animals we hunt, but in the winter most animals have very little food for the high population and if we hunt that gives a better food to animal ratio for the others so they can produce good off spring and be healthy for the next season. We do NOT just slaughter animals for the hell of it! Everything we do, and all the laws have a reason!

Not all things that people use in hunting are intended for that purpose. Aswell i know hundreds of hunters that will not kill an animal unless there going to eat it.

Black bears aren't even threatened in the U.S.A. unlike what some of these people keep saying. There are so many of them in New York that they are starting to come into the suburban areas to get food. I live 20 miles from where any bears should be, yet they are still seen all the time in my neighborhood. I agree with other people...if you don't like hunting don't watch the videos.

DNR counts indicate bears are no where near extinction in that state. If there was any concern about populations they would be on the endangered species list (which they are not). So we should put that fear to rest.

I not an expert on wildlife, but I think there are seasons on animals when there is an abundance of them. If the DNR was concerned about the population they would reduce license counts or suspend the season. From my checking I found at least 8 of the lower 48 states have seasons. The Minnesota DNR site gives us a estimated population in the tens of thousands in that state alone.

@purplem1968 The "buzz" they get is a feeling of accomplishment. You have no idea how difficult it is to successfully take large game with a bow and arrow. The guy in the video no doubt spent $1000's on that trip, and there is no guaranty that he would even get a shot. All sorts of things go through your head as you take the shot. You worry that your skill or your equipment aren't good enough. It's called "buck fever." and it's a very tough psychological hurdle to overcome.

I live in the rural remote Scottish Highlands but we still have stores and butchers, we can buy all sorts without going near a city. I also want to say that this is a well done video showing some great hunts. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I have hunted bear with my bow over the years (unsuccessful and successfully), either way, the hunt isn't as easy as the videos suggest. Anti-hunters can not understand the whole hunting experience, it is about impossible to explain it to them. So I don't bother.

I don't have anything against bear hunting but I believe it should be illegal to bait them. Modern hunting is about ethics, and what is ethical about spreading hundreds of pounds of food so that every bear in the wilderness stops to chow? All of you yuppies, get off your baited treestands and wander the woods like REAL hunters.

I agree, i have only and always will only stalk and spot. Baiting or using tree stands is just a pussy way. I dont think it should be illegal though, unless it was leading to overhunting.
