A great band but I didn't know they covered this tune as well...UFO did this on their debut and a fantastic job they did..this version is more detailed and fuller sounding they changed the melody but I love it now we have two amazing renditions of a classic tune!! Bravo

@Jelperman I don't know what the artist meant, but i'm a firm believer in self-interpretation. To me, this song is about divorce. The little girl is finding things about the past, bringing up questions on what happend between her father and mother. When she asks, "why can't things be the way they were before the war began," it makes me think she's asking, why can't things be like they were before whatever caused the divorce. Prolly not what was intended, but its what i get from it :D

I named my daughter after this song by Uriah Heep. The X didn't like the name Melinda, so we named her Melissa. if that makes sense. It's still because of this song though. Look at yourself!
That's who I know did it. It's song that's been around a long time. The Belafonte version has more character and sadness IMHO; I kinda grew up on Belafonte (among others) since my mother is a big fan.
This was written in the early 60s so i will hazard a guess at the Cuban Missile crisis..but it may have just been the general fear of Mutual Assured Destruction at the time

Great cover. I heard David Byron sing this live and it was amazing, but this guy does a good job.

I actually know that. But I was into heavier music at the time. I believe the actual song title was Sweet Melissa though. Thanks for the input anyways. By the way, my daughter actually thinks she was named after the Allman Brothers song.

I named my daughter after this song by Uriah Heep. The X didn't like the name Melinda, so we named her Melissa. if that makes sense. It's still because of this song though. Look at yourself!

by few other singers before Uriah Heep's rendition in 1970.

That's who I know did it. It's song that's been around a long time. The Belafonte version has more character and sadness IMHO; I kinda grew up on Belafonte (among others) since my mother is a big fan.

This was written in the early 60s so i will hazard a guess at the Cuban Missile crisis..but it may have just been the general fear of Mutual Assured Destruction at the time

This track was originally featured on Uriah Heep's debut album, "Very Eavy Very Umble", which was released in 1970. I loved Tim Rose's version too.
