  • One of the best Uriah Heep songs. I like this version of the old Harry Bellafonte Song very much...

  • @WHS64Mr OMG, it wasn't good ol Harry, it was Tim Rose who wrote this song; Sorry for that, Tim.

Nevertheless, a great song and a great version of Uriah Heep. Like that so much.

  • listen older version of this song, it has magic tune :)

  • I'm a danish 18 years old "man" (turning 19 in 48 day) and I think this is so much better than the shit "kids" are listening to today

  • 30years without listen this song, I'm crazy....

  • I'm 15 and I know this awesome band becouse my friend and neighbor who is 16 (: we are two rare teenagers I think...

  • @IronTrooperMaiden Ah you're not alone there, im 17.

  • @Motoroilspill good to know there are more teenage kids who like this great band

  • great song proberly the best they made

  • well, then I am amongst the fraction of the 5 %, maybe coz I´m 63 yo. Got all of the records..and I´m not talking CD !! but VINYL.

This is to me one of their major songs...where Lyrics comes to more than just and other " Rock song " and the final.." The answer lies in yesterday..before they had the war "..only sorry, that " Yesterday " will forever be just another day before " Tomorrow "..no ending...

Pete Seeger once wrote: " When will we ever learn " ..guess we´ll never ..

  • Beautiful!

  • This song is just WOW!

  • GOOSEBUMPS COMING ALL OVER ME AND ABOUT TO EXPLODE,TIM ROSE SONG DONE BY URIAH HEEP, AS BEAUTIFUL AS EVER, BEST BAND EVER, UP THERE, WITH, THE DAMNED.

  • i enjoyed this song back when i was in jr. high i had to take a song and talk about it the man across the street played this song for me and i fell in love with it ....btw i got a A on my report....:)

  • A great band but I didn't know they covered this tune as well...UFO did this on their debut and a fantastic job they did..this version is more detailed and fuller sounding they changed the melody but I love it now we have two amazing renditions of a classic tune!! Bravo

  • they were a GREAT BAND! i listened to them in the 70's and then after that i didn't hear anything else from them. are they still around? if so i am in the 5% that will listen ......again! :) i love them to death!

  • @dlsellers59 I've seen them in live 2010, they are still a powerful live-band. If you get the Chance to see them, do it! :D

  • I salute good!!!

  • I always thought this song was out of place on that album. But it is one I really liked. I was surprised that I found it( not really because you can find anything on the internet now.

  • I wish I could understand the lyrics of this song. It's a dream. Would anyone upload the text?

  • sorry to be hogging this site but i just love this song so much, it holds so much memories for me, i just hope other people appreciate what emotion this song stirs up, luv to you all xxxx

  • love it, having a father and brother in the army, brother played guiitar in the army group, dad played flute in the regimental band, this song holds so much, memories. luv to all xxx

  • Awesome song, excellent band!

  • Huge song in the 70's. Was a Army Vet from the 60's . Went in hope none of you would ever have to go, just like all the men and women who joined before me. Look in the eyes of this little girl and tell me you don't appreciate what our Vets do and what they give up for all of us. Thank a Vet today.

  • Uriah Heep is the Bomb The greatest I,ve ever heard

  • The best....<3

  • lovely song by Bernie, but David did it better!! luv to all xxx

  • Uriah heep is one of the greatest, but most underrated band. Sad indeed, only 5% people in the world today listen to rock and only a fraction among the 5% knows about uriah heep

  • @anupdutta10 did you know that 5% of statistics are made up on the spot, seriously in Japan and Russia alone rock is the most listened to style of music, also most of northern europe is the same and even most people in the united states listen to some kind of rock on some level, seriously stop quoting the mindless zombies who think they know something, and in the words of Ronnie James Dio "Long Live Rock N Roll"

  • @anupdutta10 You are a well informed individuum Mr.Holmes... You may tell me, where these facts are published and proven?

  • @anupdutta10

I consider myself lucky to be one of the few that grew up on UH just by shear luck.

  • thumbs up if your name is Melinda !! :))

  • @ilovehilaryduff1 I hit thumbs down assuming one of them isn't actually named Melinda.

  • Well, my name is Julio, but I wish it was Melinda:P

  • Just a beautiful song, so touching..... and a great voice!

  • you can find this music on l 'album Very 'Eavy Very ' Umble

  • Is anybody out there who knows from which album this version "melinda" is from Bernie Shaw? All experts I asked don't know.

  • Comment removed

  • @wsoundlove 2000 Future Echoes Of The Past CD2 №9

  • oh yeah,,,it's so amazing so great to hear the song again...

  • College dorm room in 1973. I cried for Melinda

  • My name's Melinda XD love the song by the way :D

  • From what album is this version?? Thanks very much for answer...

  • A classic, I think a country 'n western original ? A U H Fan

  • Great cover. I heard David Byron sing this live and it was amazing, but this guy does a good job.

The original version by Tim Rose is also very good, but UFO's version sounds a bit flat.

  • No words...

  • come away My Melinda x

  • Curto essa galera a 40 anos e não há o menor sinal de ranço. O som deles é sempre atual.

  • 100% юрайхиповский

  • Super.

  • Such a awesome song

  • Uriah Heep minha banda preferida escuto a muito tempo!

  • Muito linda essa musica!! Adoro Uriah Heep

  • @sergiofreitasilva Belo gosto musical obrigada por me enviar essa música abraços

  • This a cover of tim rose's song

    about a nuclear holocaust aftermath

original heep covered it in 69 i think

  • Beautiful song. The guy has a great voice.

  • I love Shaw, but I don't like him in this song... old version is better...

  • who are those seven people without feelings?

  • wish i could have heard this live.. :(

  • saw heep 34years ago and its still one of the best songs ever recorded

  • I have not heard this song in so long... it is so beautiful...

  • simple perfect……...

  • Thanks to Aunty Sestri,You had knowing and posting this song to me ,Awesome

    Hug and Kiss...

  • Total MEDIOCRITY!!!!

  • What's the song about?

  • @Jelperman I don't know what the artist meant, but i'm a firm believer in self-interpretation. To me, this song is about divorce. The little girl is finding things about the past, bringing up questions on what happend between her father and mother. When she asks, "why can't things be the way they were before the war began," it makes me think she's asking, why can't things be like they were before whatever caused the divorce. Prolly not what was intended, but its what i get from it :D

  • Lapsesta asti rakastanut tätä!

  • I live this song :)

  • I love this song :)

  • I will always love this song

  • so sad awesome band always

  • La canzone è fantastica, ma cantata da David Byron è tutto un altra cosa.

    Grandi Uriah Heep!

  • this is the one! not bad for a soundcheck!

  • excellent cover. My mum named my sister melinda after this song... and got my name outta the movie roadhouse with patrick swayze....Dalton

7 pple dont like heep...quick get 'em.

  • @shiftyAE86 technically, UFO is the cover of Uriah Heep. Very 'eavy Very 'umble (Uriah Heep) came out June 1970 and Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) came out in October 1970, so really, UFO covered a Uriah Heep song.

  • ♦♦...there are a lot versions from this song .... but this one from URIAH HEEP is for me the best ..♦♦

    ☺☺...really wonderfull .....and magic...☺☺

  • das musicas mais lindas que já ouvi anos 70 do melhor

  • You come near me again N ill rip u fucking hed offf .

  • It is not John Lawton in this video, this is Bernie Shaw.

  • i luv the heep, but this sucks.

  • John Lawton Is Not URIAH HEEP

    Get rid of him.

  • One of my favorite songs.

  • this song HURT MY BRAIN

    DADDY DIED OFF HEROIN!!!!!

  • My daddy died as well because of bad living and I´m sorry `bout you! Mean it! But if you listen to the lyrics you`see it`s not about a daddy! On the contrary... It`s about a mammy and little kids. But I´m sorry `bout your sorrow!

  • That sounds like live Heep

  • Absolutely amazing !

The Byron version is even better.

  • horrible voice...hate this version

  • Great song !

  • well... this is so.... thanks Uriah Heep for this song

  • This was written by Fred Hellerman of the Weavers

  • Come Away Melinda was an old folk song, originally done by The Weavers.

  • GREAT SONG VERY SAD

  • Thanx for the kind thought.

  • Just excellent.

Listening this song again and again.

  • I actually know that. But I was into heavier music at the time. I believe the actual song title was Sweet Melissa though. Thanks for the input anyways. By the way, my daughter actually thinks she was named after the Allman Brothers song.

  • Hello ekimkandar,

it's imported for children to know the real story of their life and thier names. So maybe you say her how her name was decided, for real.

    Respect :)

  • hello 2SeeYou247

  • Sweet Melissa was an Allman Brothers song

  • I named my daughter after this song by Uriah Heep. The X didn't like the name Melinda, so we named her Melissa. if that makes sense. It's still because of this song though. Look at yourself!

  • The Allman Brothers Band got a great song named - Melissa! ;)

  • The version, where David Byron was definitely better.

  • wow, melinda must be the most beautiful name i've ever heard.

  • sang as a song.. lacking the feeling of the Byron version.. never the less..a very powerful and underated song.

  • ouuuuu

it is so sad song :(:(

  • Immer gerne gehört.

  • Check out the version by UFO

I think Phil Mogg captures the song

    in it's true essence .

  • i saw ufo at leeds in 1980 .what a gig . i saw gary moore in april he was rubbish all he did all night was tell fans to fuck off

  • tiene alma esta cancion

  • Just for the record: this song was first sung by Harry Belafonte in 1963 and then

by few other singers before Uriah Heep's rendition in 1970.

  • Oh please don't ruin the song foe us...........lol

  • That's who I know did it. It's song that's been around a long time. The Belafonte version has more character and sadness IMHO; I kinda grew up on Belafonte (among others) since my mother is a big fan.

  • love this song one of my all time favourites.

  • thats so sad...

my father used to play it on his guitar...

    very, very, good song.

  • At 1:05 he sounds exactly like Ra McGuire, lead singer of the Canadian band Trooper!

  • Oh Shit Good song (::

  • I know it's an anti-war song, but does anyone know more about what specifically inspired this song?

  • Vesnicie

This was written in the early 60s so i will hazard a guess at the Cuban Missile crisis..but it may have just been the general fear of Mutual Assured Destruction at the time

    Jim

  • That makes sense. Thank you. :-)

  • This track was originally featured on Uriah Heep's debut album, "Very Eavy Very Umble", which was released in 1970. I loved Tim Rose's version too.
