I am not surprised Paramount/CBS have shelved the release of seasons 7-9 DVD box sets and lost the rights, anticipated drop in sales..I loved season 1 and 2, season 1 especially, didn't see it until 2009.
alexis is worth over a billion dollars and travels to a foriegn country without an army of her own personal security....give me a break...does not happen...
How embarrassing to watch, 25 years later. This scene must be the absolute worst if this otherwise admirable, long-lived show. It all started going downhill with the prince of Moldavia. There is NO "Kingdom of Moldavia".
Your lucky, I could have killed you all, but my followers are the worst bleeping shots in Moldydavia. My God, what did we kill, 2? Point blank people hello is this thing on. Oh I'm due on the set of Airwolf be right back.
If the producers really wanted to torment the viewers they could have had the opening credits just showing images of Denver without any of the actors.
I am in full agreement that this season opener was quite a disappointment (as I lived through the shock of the massacre and the "waiting all summer" to find out what happened). As homeric9 stated, they had the chance of a lifetime here, and instead made it look like a school play. Lost opportunity is an understatement.
The opening scene should have been exactly where the scene originally faded to black. Even Joan's absense could have been worked around..this opening scene comes across as crammed together at the last minute. Krystle acknowledging Blake as she did was weird..he was just on top of her! A missed opportunity for Jeff to cradle Ashley's dead body w/ Dominique helping him..her white dress stained w/blood. (OK..it would have been an Ali double). Adam pulling a near dead Luke off of Claudia.
@homeric9 YES, that would've been soooo much better. Plus they could've had more character deaths as well; a lot of people say Claudia should have died too, & I'm inclined to agree (even though I loved her fiery death at La Mirage), as well as Prince Michael, Galen, Yuri, & they even could've had Andrew Laird & Rosalind at the wedding so they could die too. 8 deaths instead of 2.
@Kelaiah01 The producers seemingly learned a lesson with the season 6 opener by going all out to burn the hotel down. The follow up by renting the Mountain Gate and "burning" it with the fire trucks, extras and all created the drama we expected and surprised us. Though the only thing I would have done was have the guests inside slowly acknowledge the fire then see it rage out of control.
@homeric9 Yeah, I agree w/ that too. I mean, I loved all the chaos/drama/horror/excitement that the season7 opener had, but I do agree it was a bit of a 180 from where we left off in the cliffhanger, w/ just smoke coming out of the vents. Also, I think they should've showed who won the Amanda/SammyJo poolfight, & maybe Clay could've separated them... or they slowly saw that the hotel was on fire, and Amanda shoves Sammy Jo aside to go inside to rescue Clay. XD
@Kelaiah0 This is where many shows start to falter when they neglect the small details. In the season 7 opener the original script called for Alexis to pour herself a drink in the library, spotting a picture of Blake and Krystle knocking it to the floor THEN marching up the stairs for her victory toast on the landing. I think as Claudia's suite windows imploded from the fire, which could have been seen by Sammy Joe and Amanda, who go running looking for Clay, who is knocked out and dies.
@homeric9 So it seems. Yeah, I heard about Alexis knocking over a pic of Blake & Krystle (that would've been epic to see), though this is the first time I've heard about Sammy Jo & Amanda seeing Claudia's windows imploding (that too would've been epic to see - if Oxenberg was still playing Amanda, that is). But I'm glad they didn't kill Clay off, b/c he & Amanda seemed so cute together. The writers could've kept them apart b/c of the Ben-might-be-Clay's-dad storyline to prolong the drama.
The Prince and the King were kind of douchy, I never liked them and wished they had been killed. I don't remember why there was a revolution, but I'm not surprised their own people wanted to get rid of them ;)
That bit of conversation between Prince Michael and "YURI!!!" was really hard to watch. I'm watching the whole show in sequence for the first time, and I'm already thinking "uh oh..."
I remember there being a discussion about this episode and its ratings. I didn't see if anyone figured it out, but I came across a website that had most of Dynasty's episode ratings:
The Aftermath received a 28.1 rating the week it aired. This placed it as 3rd for the week. For good measure, The Royal Wedding received a 25.9 rating that Spring, and placed 2nd (Dallas was #1 with a 27.5). It's kind of disappointing to learn even the Royal Wedding couldn't top the chart.
I remember seeing someone comment that they should've had the "Krystle's Double" storyline before this and that Rita could've died in the Massacre so people would think that Krystle died. That was a real good idea, plus I think Prince Michael could've died as well, because Amanda was just going to divorce him anyway. And the guy with the eyepatch should've died too, he's extremely annoying. So we'd have 5 characters who died instead of 2.
The Moldavian Rebels = Total Ineptitude; not only did they manage to miss nearly everyone in attendance, they didn't even manage to kill their main target, the King, when they had a clear shot at him. And even if they missed the King during the "massacre," why not just execute him afterward? Isn't that what revolutionaries do????
"Why did you kill all those innocent people?" What wedding was the priest watching?????
The credits show for the first time all of the carrington children
Adam, Fallon, Steven and Amanda plus Sammy Jo are together although not all of them share scenes together as Fallon and Sammy Jo where the only members of the family not to be in Modavia
That was hilarious the way Jeff suddenly dashes into the scene yelling "Where is she? The lady with the camera!!" I agree with so many here who've commented on how sloppy this whole deal is. It could've been so much better and yes, a major character like Adam or wooden Stephen should've died too. Imagine how much scaling back they could've done and left the door open for new characters.
@TheJaking87 she still had a contract with the show, and that's usually part of the agreement. Most shows then and now if a character is not in the episode, they still may be credited for that reason.
I remember watching, being glued to the screen, and seeing the opening "DYNASTY" credits. I was thinking, "Man!! The opening credits is telling me they ALL survived!!"
Seeing this again, I don't think it was that bad of a result. A cheat, but not that bad.
Joan Collins was having a contract dispute at this time, which is why "Alexis" was not in the season opener. In the second episode of this season, Krystle was locked in a dungeon with Alexis.
Actually, that started at the beginning of season 3. It just took until the season 6 premier for most people to notice because the show got even worse than usual.
@bfsgman I disagree. Dynasty's glory years were seasons 2-5. They always teetered on the verge of camp and true drama and did it brilliantly up until season 6. Although I loved the Blake/Alexis/ Ben/Caress storyline!
@bbath7 For me, the biggest mistakes they did were the mishandling of Dominique & ES's Fallon, the aftermath of the Massacre, the recasting of Amanda, trying to make a spinoff, not trying to get anything more out of Caress, the last half of season 7, and pretty much all of season 8. If these things had been handled w/ better care, well... yeah.
@bfsgman "Actually, that started at the beginning of season 3. It just took until the season 6 premier for most people to notice because the show got even worse than usual."
You're really right. The problems started with Season 3. The show remained a hit after the downturn in the writing in Season 3 due to hype, star appeal, and the influential wardrobe... The massacre aftermath of Season 6 was just the event which caused the viewers to finally give up their good will towards Dynasty.
actually galen was not killed. i remember now. Alexis dressed up as a Nun to free him LOL I want to see that episode as there was a huge stir about that because she had no make up on LOL
Does anyone know the house in LA where the Moldavia sequence was filmed? I thought it was Greystone Manor, which Dynasty used in the past but Greystone I am convinced is nott he house used here. Looks like most of the exterior shots were greystone but the wedding chapel is a puzzle. It is obviously an orangery or the like dressed as a chapel but can't place it yet.
Now that you mention it the interior wasn't Greystone at all. The scene where Alexis and Amanda arrive one can plainly see the center courtyard and into the room where the wedding scene was shot. Besides..Greystone's main entrance is totally different. I wish I could find out where this was done as this is one of my last Dynasty locations to visit.
I've been told this was a house..and I wonder given some of the exteriors if this wasn't Bel Air..not sure why but it seems to me it could be.
The reunion used Greystone..the staircasearea fight with Kirby has been used countless times in other productions..Ghost included. Using Google maps I can't seem to link the gardens we see so often in the finale. On flcikr there are images of the french wondows that match but the massacre scene had an open pavillion on the groom's side that I can't match in the aireals. Plus in the season 6 opener we see the house in the last clip and hear gunfire..I can't match the outdoor staircase we see.

@smck2009 I remember at the time I was mortified that Luke had been killed, as I was in love with him... still am!
