In general, don't buy plastic (Behringer's plastic). The only plastic pedal that ever worked for me was the Fish'N'Chips EQ. Only one that hasn't broken.
I guess it depends on what you're after, Vox is cleaner while the Crybaby is muddier, Id prefer the Crybaby for a Hendrix type effect or even blaxploitation films of the 70's type of wah sound.
I have a vintage Crybaby with the oldschool fassel chip and it sounds very similar to the VOX wah demonstrated here. I also modded it to be true bypass, seems not squash off the highs and lows so much like the crybaby here. Bottom line? Vox is clearer, seems to have more range but may be potentially harsh with too much gain. Crybaby sounds especially muddy as it dips off in the lows and has less range overall, but that my be desirable for high gain. Me? Mod the Crybaby, buy the Vox stock.
I know hardly anything about pedals, could anyone advise me on which to buy? I have an Epiphone Les Paul and play Jimi Hendrix and RATM. I'd appreciate any help :)
@carrotsandnutella you're going to want the dunlop crybaby. even the behringer hellbabe wah is better than the vox one, the vox has way too much high frequency, it's ear-piercing. dunlop crybaby all the way.
@gl797 so i'm new with effects and everything but i know you make a chain but does the adapter plug into the wall? i know if you have multiple pedals you can have a board and make a chain but this will be my first one so can i just plug it into the wall as the power source?
@tannerr96 yes it plugs into a wall outlet or power strip. if you were to set up a chain of effects then you would need a power adapter that can power many pedals. If you plan on buying more pedals in the future then I'd go with an adapter that comes complete with everything needed to run a bunch of effect pedals.
Owned just about every wah out there in this price range, while the Vox is beter than the standard crybaby ..imo nothing beats the crybaby classic fasel, it doesn't have the harshness when in toe down position of all the others.
Vox and Crybaby are the samething but certain shops didnt want vox selling in there stores so they just made "another " pedal called the crybaby as they said in the documentary
Ah. I'm at a serious crossroads. I play everything style-wise. But I mostly play ambient/shoegaze in my band and like experimental/surf rock stuff in my friend's band. I have almost completed my "dream" board but I need a wah. Which would one of you youtubers suggest?

@tralfamadorian42 ive done it. it sounds cool but i can't think of a practical use for it. dimebag darrell did that with a wah and a whammy pedal for a solo (cant remember which one though.)
@tralfamadorian42 Stevie Ray Vaughan used to do that; he had a vintage vox and the crybaby that belonged to Jimi Hendrix, he'd use both of them live when he played Voodoo Child (Slight Return).
@tralfamadorian42 i have done that i have 4 wah pedels 2 zakk wydle a vox and some shitty hell babe wah ( 2 zakks cuz one i thought was broken but it was a bad power suppli and i had a show that i needed to get to so i just bought one that day )
I can't stand my CryBaby because when I move it into the treble side, it gets really piercing to the ear. I want a wah that is more subtle on the treble side... Would the Vox do that for me?
Dont buy the vox, ive tried it and it degrades after a while and it also doesn't work with any adapter ive tried, with the right amps and everything and it still wont work. you're better off buying the cry baby
@Cyanide5151 I've had it for over a year and it works perfectly. If adapters fail the 9 volt battery is incredibly easy to install and mine hasn't anyway.
@delcasher It's great to find you here. I've checked some of your recordings; it's awesome. Thanks for inventing this amazing effect.
Since you're an expert on the subject, I was wondering what would be the greatest Wah Wah pedal you would recommend? I'm about to buy a new one and it would be awesome to have your advice.
@alfalfasprout69 What boss power supply do you use? I have a boss psa-120s, and that dosen't work with the crybaby because the plug can't go all the way into the jack.
@godzilla964 I don't think that can help because the AC adapter jack in my crybaby is broken. I just have to throw away my crybaby and get a new wah, and i'm interested in the v847.
Even though a lot of my favorite guitar players use the Vox pedal, I am a Crybaby guy. The Vox is really mellow and subdued, but the Crybaby is a little bit more gritty and in-your-face. Thanks to everyone who plays the wah with great music. We changed the world of music for guitarists.
