SO Spats, looks like you're a fan of fans...and I thought I was bad.
Can you tell us WHY Lakewood box fans can no longer be found at Wal-Mart, Home Depot and seemingly every other major retail store in New England? Lakso (Lasko?) seems to have taken over, but I'll NEVER buy one, as their fans are made overseas, which may have just answered my question, eh? Lakewood are FAR superior and are made here in the USA in Chicago, but maybe only Ace can get the price that's necessary today?
I noticed the brown fan on the right has no squares on the blade hub. I used to have a few like that with no squares on the hub. One was in the basic white and grey but it had the rounder bannana blades because it was from the early 90's.
Hey Spats, thank you once again for this and the other video. They're both very informative but this one really educates me on fans and quality. This video is the one that really got me obsessed with the 1st gen Lakewood bladeset, especially of how you speak about its great power. I may be getting me a 1st gen Kmart K-223 from a cousin of mine as well as some kind of G.E. table fan. I'll do a video of them when I get them if I can get them maintained and my camera working in time.
I noticed that there is a white circle in the middle of the back grille on the braced-bladed fan. This is an attempt to hide the fact that this fan has a smaller motor than the older fans.
I do like that avocado green one, especially those big blades. The brown fan still looks decent though, and I do like that low speed.
As to your two speed question, I've seen two speed Galaxy fans in the 80's but never a two speed Lakewood. A friend of mine just scored an 80's two speed Galaxy and he's now a believer in the superiority of vintage fans :-) .

Hey Spatzbear, whenever you turned on the braced-bladed fan, it sounded like it moves more air then the other two fans. They need to install braces on the P-25, P-223, etc. That will allow the fan to maintain pitch at high speeds. Therefore, that makes the fan capable of moving more air. I'll try and have a video in a few weeks.
You know, I just remembered an avocado P-23 that was on ebay a long time ago. It looked exactly like your 1st gen plastic bladed fan, only with the P-23 blades. It was a Country Aire. It had the Country Aire logo in the corner of the grille like your Windsor. Maybe this fan is a Country Aire?
It is the same exact fan, just different colors and the Country Aire logo.
That fan I am also after because that is the very fan my grandmother had when I was growing up. She had a 2 speed and 3 speed version of it.
The Windsor I came across while search for said fan, and since it was mint in the box, I got it. I love the teal and baby blue color scheme of the Windsor as well.
The 4th gen. one? That is my parents. Surprisingly it still works (it is over 5 years old!)
The 1986 one is in my basement, which I use daily right now. Emerson helped me take the blade set off and lubricate/clean the motor while he was here too.
The lakewood fans I had when I was a baby had sharp edges (THe blades are just like the one on the left though).

The green one should be a 1st generation model P-223.
airhornian 3 years ago
It is. This video was made when I was first getting into vintage box fans. Now I pretty much have Lakewood's model number system down pat.

Funny how the new one has little wimpy flower petal blades.
