That looks like a very young Jerry McKenzie on drums. Am I wrong? The bassist, John Wooster later went with Kenton, as did Jerry. Both fabulous players. Love the way Ray played too!
Since Ray played this tune many times in the AAF band, he was able to get it right. I do miss the humming that Glenn's civilian band did on a few bars of this when they performed it. Also I miss 'ol Tex's solo , too
I was the "ballad drummer" with this band for 3-1/2 years including this t.v.show in 1961. Hard to believe it has been 48 years ago !! All of the guys are gone except 3 of us.
I'm the current piano player for the GMO. We still play #182! The band is still very busy, Larry O'Brien is still leading. Can you list the personnel on this clip? Thanks.
Can you list the personnel on this clip, as Ron Mills the piano player with the current Glenn Miller Orchestra would like to know, I would not want to get any of the names wrong, and you were actually there....great big band drumming, by the way...
Did you play with Pat Throneberg (tpt)? He played in 3 different versions of the Miller band (as well as some other bands). I play trumpet with his band in Greenville, SC now as well as some groups of my own.
@crosswordjim36 Thank you for your remarkable work. And, thank you to the other two. I am a 57-year-old Miller buff. This was a remarkable series I just found out about 4 days ago!
