@say7what7you7will thank you for bringing light to this mans innocence. And in innocence I mean to say that breathing has been a practice among Christians for ages. Meditating on scripture is scriptural along with the fact that no where does the bible state this to be an unlawful practice. Living in this day and age we have to find time to be silent with God and many times a good way to find peace and inner faith is meditation to prepare yourself to come into God's presence.
So Bell does breathing practices...So what. If it works for Rob Bell and he connects with God through it, then great. This guys tone is cynical and hateful. Christians please rebuke with love!
I really like worm radio, but I don't think breathing techniques are an issue you sould get up in arms about. Music is the same way in my mind. You can use music to calm you down, get you excited, or worship God. We don't automatically discount music since it has blatently satanic uses and I breathing techniques are the same way. Heck, we even use em when women have babies. What's the problem here?
It's legalistic Pharisees like this that push people AWAY from Christ instead of drawing them closer. In the American Heritage Dictionary, Meditation is-- a devotional exercise of contemplation. And YOGA outside of the hindu religion simply means-- a system of exercises designed to promote control over the mind and body. I have used yoga in my quiet time to reconnect with God while listening to soft worship music. I have also used "meditation" to "be still and know he is God"......

@becky4600 In Joshua 1:8, God says to meditate on His word day and night so we will obey it. The psalmist says "his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night" (Psalm 1:2). Actually, the Bible mentions meditate or meditation 20 times.
Ephesians 4:32 Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Where is the love, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control in that broadcast?
Romans 2:1-4 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet you do the same things, do you think you will escape God's Judgment?
@becky4600 Yea, Bell's followers always pull verses out of context to "defend" him. Do you have anything that's in context to support his false teachings?
@gtrjunky I knew you would be the one to comment. Do you think it pleases God to hear his children speak to each other this way? The evidence of salvation is fruit. Where is your fruit? Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. And for your information, I am not a Rob Bell follower.
@becky4600 Speak to each other what way? Do you think it pleases God to have His holy word maligned by false teachers? As far as "my fruit"??? You don't know me or what I do on a daily basis concerning ministry so to even discuss it is moot. The issue here is about false teachers like Bell and I merely pointed out the fact that most of Bell's "fans" demonstrate their biblical ignorance in their "defense" of him and thus prove why they have been seduced by his false teachings.
@becky4600 You pulled Romans 2 right out of it's context because it has the word "judge" in it. Paul is talking about hypocritical judgement, i.e. judging others of the very same thing you're guilty of practicing.
You also threw down the "Pharisee" card because other christians are defending the faith (Jude 3,4). Read Titus ch.1 and 2 Tim.2:16-18 and see if the apostle Paul was being a "pharisee".
@becky4600 Prayer is different from meditation. Where do you see evidence in scripture of meditation as being acceptable or instructed? When Christ told his disciples how to pray - did he say - go lay down and breathe deeply and meditate and just experience God? In all the espistles - did you once see Paul instruct the churches to do this? No. He instructs us repeatedly to be sound in doctrine and (Titus 2 / 1 Timothy etc) . See: christianitytoday /ct/2004/november/10.78
I watched the actual video. Like many deceptive things, there is some truth to what Rob Bell said but not complete truth. I would protect non-christians & new christans from the notion that we are close to God simply because we breathe. Breathing is part of general revelation (creation, art..etc), where we catch a glimpse of God's glory, but that is NOT ALL there is to it. There is sin, total depravity, Jesus and the Gospel. The specific revelation that will draw us close to God is Jesus.
@binkyluv1 Yes because Todd just hates Rob Bell and wishes that he were dead... (sarcasm). Have you ever read that we are to test the spirits? Is it hate that Todd is trying to expose false doctrine because of it's danger to the Church, and even the unsaved? No, but it takes more love to tell people that they are listening to lies than to sit by and allow them to be fooled. Hopefully you see this too. Anyone who cares about God will defend his word, maybe you should start doing the same.
@HDell1994 Jesus is the Word of God and when Peter tried to 'defend' Him, Peter was rebuked. Truth is. it needs no defense. what we 'defend' is our own fear, shame, pride, etc... when we simply and deeply know, (beyond the mind and intellect), defensiveness falls away and melts into faith and trust and we hear the still small voice of Love.
@binkyluv1 Listen, although I disagree with the way he went about it, and believe that he could've done it in a MUCH more loving and mature way, like I said before, the substance of Todd's logic was not biblically incorrect and Bell's logic was. No, I don't encourage going around finding sermons to critique BUT there IS a way to address an issue such as this in a loving manner that benefits both Bell and the Church of God. So yes, love MAY have been lacking in this vid, but the logic was correct
@HDell1994 I don't know if you are a Christian. I mean nothing but respect with this. But Rob Bell is a wolf in sheep's clothing. And you have to treat wolves differently than sheep. You can't love wolves the same way you love sheep. A great sermon on this is done by Mark Driscoll on youtube. The title is "How Sharp the Edge? Christ, Controversy, and Cutting Words, by Mark Driscoll (Desiring God 2008 National." Check out Galatians 1:8. Again please accept this with love and graciousness.
@Spanno0000 Hmm that's interesting, and I see how God calls all who peach a false gospel accursed. So I no longer will question what Friel said, but instead I will only question what his motives were. Yes, I am a Christian, and I may just give that Driscoll sermon a listen. Although I know that Jesus sharply rebuked pharisees it wasn't really like this, but to be honest, I don't know what's right. I understand that Bell was wrong but didn't Friel come off a bit harsh?
Todd Friel is trying to magnify Todd Friel's opinion more than Magnifying Christ. This is one of the most not-chrisitian programs in a christian vein I have heard.Contemplative prayer is not heresy because it is about centering your focus onCHRIST.As far as meditating I'm fairly sure Rob Bell is referring to Meditatingon scripture, which is in fact BIBLICAL.He's wasting more breath skepticizing than sharing Christ with people.
@andypops89 Meditating on scripture? He said verbatim, "I wonder sometimes when you feel as though God is far, God is thinking, "I gave you breathing, I can't get closer." Come on, you have to admit it, Bell hasn't once implied that you should meditate on scripture while breathing but *only* implied that we should devote periods of time to breathing. Honestly, meditations and reflections are good things that Christians should do. Silence I guess isn't the worse either, but really... breathing???
this guy is a moron. way to discourage faith. Shut up man. seriously. This guy ministers and leads people to Christ. You condemn. shut your dirty sinner mouth.
Hahaha wow. I really did try to keep an open mind and listen to this guy, but I just couldn't get past how completely ridiculous he is! Since WHEN is it okay to take snippets of someone's lessons, make fun of it, make fun of the STOOL they sit on, and pass judgments about the person? Woooow. And what Rob Bell has to say about Nooma and breath is so powerful, they're taking bits and pieces out so they can laugh at it. SOO christian of them.
The only Jesus anyone who isn't a believer is going to see is us collectively and individually. If they see Christians attacking each other, they see a Christ divided (which is not an accurate representation). Likewise, if they see us being hateful, they see a hateful Christ (which is equally wrong). We aren't perfect, but we can at least try to show the world a Jesus who came to save them. Am I wrong in asking this? Perhaps naïve, but I have always tried seeing the best in people.
@Sylus1981 I agree with your stance. I agree with Todd Friel on the fact that what Rob Bell taught was incorrect but he could have confronted the issue in a MUCH more mature way. It is as though Friel was crossing the line between a rebuke and an attack, both are sharp and stern but one is done out of love and the other is done with ill intentions. But although Friel may have been a bit too harsh, please, please, do not ignore the fact that Friel's logic was correct in Bell's false preaching.
I'm asking for an ounce of maturity when it comes to discussing other's theology/fallacies thereof. Instead of saying, "Oh my gosh, did you here what Rob Bell said? He's such a nut." Maybe say, "I, personally, disagree with Rob Bell and I don't find his messages rooted in scripture." Respect and maturity is all I ask of the Christian community...

We can correct people without being malicious about it which is ultimately all I'm asking. I'm not asking you to believe Rob Bell. I take man's words worth a grain of salt unless God reveals himself through their words.
Also, for the record, I have a lot of similar views with Paul (one example is when I said Jesus died for all, though that view is nothing special). Some, however, I don't agree with (women not being able to teach was more of the time they were in, I feel).
I have read them. I will agree that my statement was in the wrong about how if he brings them to God, what's the problem? There is a problem with false teachings, yes.
But you missed the point of what I was saying. Our priority is to love one another, faults and all, because we're all stumbling around and still learning. So instead of bashing Rob Bell and taking a few cheap shots, why not be constructive? Why not be helpful instead of spiteful?
@Sylus1981 I guess you could ask the apostle Paul that same question. Why did he "bash" the Judaizers? Why did he "bash" Hymenaeus and Philetus? Why didn't he just "love" them?
Also, just one more thing to think about. This is about the breathing exercises calming children who don't follow Christ delivered by people who don't follow Christ.
Did Jesus hang on the cross for everyone? Or just a select few? Didn't He die so that ALL can find salvation and redemption and forgiveness? Who's to say that those children weren't taking comfort in the God they've been raised to doubt?
I'm just going to say this: 1 Corinthians 1:10-13.
I don't follow Rob Bell. I follow Christ Jesus. This Radio-Show is just sad, though. Not pathetic-sad, but seriously disheartening. Why must we hate each other when we are ALL TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING? People respond to Rob Bell. And if he brings people to God, the ultimate Truth, why fight over semantics?
How long before we realize attacking each other is nothing more than genocidal suicide?
@gtrjunky did you read the one about the guy who shot his mouth off and than ran away? it was real funny he said "people who are cowards hide behind phony profiles"etc..
yet not a single live video or a moderator lol
big scary Luvdady run you off again?
funny you shoot your mouth off here there and anywhere you can yet you don't
Wow what a bunch of cheep shots. I am not impressed by that radio program at all. There is a saying that i love which refers to making disciples, and it is "you win people TO, what you win them WITH." It just seems like radio shows like this where teachers angerly take clips out of context , helps to perpetuate the hateful version of Christianity that the world has experienced.
God's good news is about love and redemption in this life and eternally. It is both about people who choose to follow Jesus believing in how faith in his cross has renewed us with God and gives us eternal life, as well as a gospel that is good news for the marginalized in this world. The phrase wholistic gospel or complete gospel comes from this. Somewhere along the line someone decided these 2 things were mutually exclusive. The reality is that if not together the other looses integrity...
Without the cross you have an empty "social gospel" and without sacrificial love for your neighbor you have an empty religion. When i read the Gospels, Acts and Paul I see evidence of a movement that was deeply rooted in both. I see a community of people who shared everything they had with eachother and poor and ended poverty around them (Acts 2: 32-34). And I see a good news in the form of Jesus teaching he is the true vine who offer eternal life to those who believe in him (john 15)...
Also the good news about a God incarnating himself as a human to save the world because he loved it so deeply (john 1 and John 3:16) The reality is that the good news lacks integrity when it is fragmented. The implications of how Jesus lived, and how he died and came back to life is the true and whole good news.
Cripes Christian "talk radio", I thought I was listening to Rush Limbaugh or that other dude who's name I can't recall that's mormon. This is a CROCK and your as deceived as those you talk down.
Actually, I've been to many of Rob Bell's sermons. You're wrong, RB acknowledges and affirms all of the selfless acts of Christ, but because he doesn't constantly repeat them, he misses the point? He's not constantly repeating them because he's focusing more on living a JESUS-LIFE, the life Jesus died for us to pursue. Of course we can't save ourselves, Christ came to show us how to live.. but %90 christian pastors teach that God wants you to be rich and successful. God wants you to need him.
@gtrjunky Actually, it's perfectly in line with what Jesus said as well as the apostles. In the future, please make your argument from scripture instead of just "generalizing" too much.
i don't understand why people are actually thinking of how to, let alone why they should "debate" this with other christians... lets face it... there are more important things to think about people.
Todd Friel is just as lost as you may think Rob Bell is. He makes his money, and gets exposure because he is constantly taking other preachers words out of context and making him seem like he knows best.
Just because Rob Bell doesn't preach about searching for God in external things, doesn't mean he is a "false teacher". He doesn't teach anything farfetched or worthy of being called a sin.
& scarroll is right, everything Bell said is supported by his bg in hebrew, and greek and OT.
Rob Bell also does not claim that because we have breath God is in us. He says our breath calls God's name, how do they not understand that, because like their preaching they text prove, and don't know context. Also, Jesus did say he would remain in us and us in him, check John 16. These guys have horrible biblical studies background, and are a main reason behind the hatred for the American church. They have a radio show, and a TV star, Rob Bell has a background of study and work.
The Way of the Master is the most hindering group, and method to Church and to God. How many people have they sent to Hell. Rob Bell's theology is sounder then these men's ever will. Maybe if they had a backgorund in Hebrew, Greek and OT they would be able to understand instead of inciting what has been taught by Lifeway, and the Southern Baptist Convention.
& and it's also hilarious, because instead of continuing evangelism, these pastors spend their time rambling nervously on radio shows, to try and superglue their fabricated rock back together, and fight Rob Bell.. as if Jesus would do this. You are sad and lost, you teach people to build their relationship with Christ out of fear, which is not true love as God is. The paladins of money will hold their ground, but love wins, God's love will shine through your logic of individual comfort.
I don't know if you listen to the show or not, but you will not find a radio show that witnesses more than them, I guarantee it. They witness to people every single day on the show, and they even do "Witness Wednesday" where they witness to people for the whole 2 hour block of the show. He has every right to protect the flock against preachers such as Rob Bell who promote their ridiculous agendas.
How have you provided any argument against what I proposed? You have completely overlooked it. You're stuck in the obsolete mindset that was instilled in you as you were raised. To the church, what I'm saying is "heresy" among thousands of things. Early orthodox christians knew universalism, only until the church condemned it a Heresy for it's qualities that threaten their intention for cult followings and money flow.
Where's the PROOF for your speculative arguments??? It's real easy for someone to post a bunch of assertions and "sound" confident, but where's the PROOF????
@mrob7 You name that witness?????? That kind of "witnessing" almost turned me into an atheist!!! Rob Bell may not be perfect, he is still running his race and so I am, thanks to him but these pathetic chaps are like modern day pharisees... and Kirk Cameron......bahhh.....
Paladins of money??? Are you kidding me?? Do you have any idea how rich Rob Bell is?? Get a clue. You make the same tired, liberal accusations that have no grounding in scripture or reality but are purely drawn from your own prejudices against those who hold to the truth of God's Word.
@MackLeeGreen & this truth is exclusive only to you, & you're church fathers? Anyone can read the Holy Bible, & anyone can make their own interpretation, people don't need church fathers cramming tradition and doctrine down people's throats. If we humble ourselves, if we lived a Jesus life, this is the truth of God's word. You have no divine warrant in saying you know the truth, you put God in your box, but the living God is beyond your comprehension, and beyond your silly doctrine.
@MarkToTheSky These "church fathers" that you seem to have such disdain for would have walked and talked with the apostles themselves who would have walked and talked with Jesus. Are you and Rob Bell so arrogant that you presume to know better than them??
@MackLeeGreen My loyalty, my faith, my life is for Elohim. Everyday I wake up, and I put myself in a giving mind-set, I am virtuous because the Bible instructs it. So by saying Jesus get's pissed, you mean that he's representing a sometimes angry god? So tell me, what does Rob Bell teach that is creating distance between those who listen to him, and God? That's like saying, you can't repent and give your heart and life to Elohim, but if you don't believe in Hell, too bad, can't go to heaven. psh
@MarkToTheSky You base your faith on your ability to put yourself in a giving mindset and the Bible's ability to instruct you on how to do that?? So in other words, your salvation is based on what you do?? You make no mention of the cross or the empty tomb. Well, you ask what Rob Bell teaches that creates distance between those who listen to him and God?? You answered that with your response to me.
@MackLeeGreen & is it not enough to acknowledge the divinity of these things? Yes I'm fully aware in my heart of the great martyrdom, & the empty tomb. But even without these things, I am a puppet for the lord. What are you doing to perpetuate your faith? So constantly bringing up the cross, virgin birth, & resurrection gives you salvation? but not living the way Jesus instructed us to? So you can hold all those holy instances, and be a terrible person. No.
@MarkToTheSky Yet another straw-man argument. I never said works were not important. Find one post where I did. By asking me what I am doing to perpetuate my faith you show that you really don't understand the Gospel. The only reason I can do any good works is because Christ is daily making of me a new creation and working through me. Good works flow from faith. It's not the other way around.
@MarkToTheSky This specious that you and Rob Bell hold to is simply a matter of placing yourself over the authority of God's Word when you are not comfortable with it. I got news for you. Jesus does not call us to a life of sunshine and roses. In John 17 we are warned that the world will hate us.
@MarkToTheSky Your's and Bells specious logic presumes that God has not revealed Himself to us, but if you would put down "Velvet Elvis" and actually read the Bible you would see that He has. Hebrews 1, declares that in Christ we see the exact representation of God's being. And that includes the Jesus who got pissed off.
@MarkToTheSky Well if you there is no hell or eternal punishment, then there must be no sin. After all no punishment must mean no violation. And if there is no hell, then why did Jesus have to die on the cross?? Why did He who knew no sin have to become sin on our behalf, if there is no sin?? Bell teaches that it's not important to believe in a physical resurrection, yet Paul says if Christ was not raised from the dead our faith is futile.
@MarkToTheSky Who are you to say they're not evangelizing?? You seem to assume that just because someone doesn't buy into Bell's heresy then they must not be evangelizing. Those guys constantly evangelize. They just happen to realize that evangelism is more than giving a hungry person some soup and a sandwich, but also giving them, the truth of the Gospel. It's addressing physical and spiritual needs.
Haha, change it? So what do you call Roman scholars omitted and editing the ineffable word of god? Todd Friel slams his gavel down as if he himself were God, labeling Heresy on everything because he is aware that his foundations are eroding as God's children begin to interpret the Gospel as God's children, and not upholders of traditional law. GOD will uphold the law, not the church taking matters into their own hands and burning people. Jesus would be ashamed that his message was deformed.
gtrjunky, even if you think he is a "wolf in sheeps clothing", the way that this is dealt with in this video is totally inappropriate. i respect you guys for what you do, but this is too much. you may be right but your wrong at the top of your voice.
Why, because they use sarcasm? Is that wrong? The bible has sarcasm in it. There are no personal attacks here, it's about the lying, false teachings that are under fire here.
the brownies are just fine at my church but I wouldn't drink the cool-aid at yours.
seems to me Jesus said otherwise in John 16 (them Red words)
seems to me that is faulty doctrine there, as the law was around for thousands of years before than. but of course 1 out of 1 is not one, and Jesus flunked biology also so who really knows we need that general knowledge.
so anyway your still a loser no knothing who couldn't wipe his own butt till he was 42 but fortunately still lives with his mother so it works out for him. anyway, still haven't seen any biblical response to your particular brand of theology?
seems your wotm guide book hasn't come yet? oh well maybe cam got it to you for x-mas?
maybe yu can have pancakes fur xmas cus the bibel sez to reed the bibel but yu can ask yur mom if yu can have yur krayons when santa brings prezunts and brownies.
see thats the problem with you and a lot of others you say one thing do the oposite.
paul washer &kirk cameron have both appeared on tbn, yet both groups rail against prosperity preaching. ray even went too a big meeting in Chicago. seems to me that is pretty fishy.
paul "window " washer dont have nice things give to missionaries, where is his mission field? canada hunting elk!!!
"Hypocrites"...that's funny. They would really reap a harvest if they used your tactics. They could cuss people out and use filthy language to lure them into God's kingdom. Maybe tell some blasphemous jokes too huh. Keep it up, you're a light to the world.
Talk about hypocrite??? You criticize guys who devote themselves to preaching to the lost and all you have to offer is your stinking, foul language and crude videos. Watch where you're swinging that telephone pole sticking out of your eye.
Are you perfect? Do you do anything wrong? If not, you have zero room to criticize any of the ministries that you slam! Unless you can show from scripture what their doing wrong then stifle it!
What a "great apologist" you are. I mean Ravi's got nothin' on you. Wow, I feel so much better knowing that there's guys like you out there "exegeting" the scriptures and "defending" the faith. LOL! You should write a book about this. It would sell millions! Ha ha ha!!! They should invite you to speak at the next apologetics conference. HA!
oh thats right you get your panties in a wad over your love for the wicked , that you create double standards. it is ok for someone to say something untrue that you like but when it is rob bell or someone you don't like it is off to the gallows pole with them unfairly being bashed without trial or substantiated proof
Are you perfect? Do you do anything wrong? If not, you have zero room to criticize any of the ministries that you slam! Unless you can show from scripture what their doing wrong then stifle it!
So you guys think you are doing the work of Jesus by berating another pastor? what a waste of time. get a life and do something. like ROB BELL. instead of sitting around bad mouthing other Christians.
We should really be building up and breaking down. I haven't viewed 'Breathe' by Rob Bell but i def like his style. He's got a heart for God and you can hear it. He's passionate. I also used to listen to loads of The Way of The Master... I love your passion to win souls for Jesus too, but feel that using the Law to minister must be led by the Spirit or else will push others away. In my experience - the Fruit of Love really ministers strong :) Peace out
So your personal experience is how truth is defined? Where does the bible say that using the law must be lead by the Spirit? Was it not the Spirit who authored the word (despite Bell's heretical saying that the bible is a human product and not the product of divine fiat)???...along with all of his other heretical teachings.
to those of you at WOTM radio If you disagree with Pastor Bell that is fine but it makes you look foolish to broadcast your criticisms and put downs openly like that. that is the sort of things that tell an unbelieving world that Christianity is full of idiots. the power of life and death are in the tongue. it's embarrassing to hear fellow believers ridiculing those they disagree with within the body of Christ. what kind of example are you setting for a lost and dying world. read 1st John again
No, it doesn't. It lets the world know that not everything that pretends to be "christianity" really is. It's good that we have ministries that make a distinction between that which is true and that which is false. 1 John is great! It tells believers to TEST and see what is from God.
btw, I was looking for the full-length video of Rob Bell's Nooma " Breathe" which I saw awhile back and got me doing a 180 in my feelings about the man. He is definitely New Agish and if you listen closely you'll probably agree. Same for all his videos but nothing quite like "Breathe"
You may not like this guys style but he's right. There is a slick movement going on in a huge way that is changing what the Bible says and leading people to ..... where? What kind of teaching will this lead in 5 or 10 years. Talking about "God's love for you" is the carrot that leads the hurt and lonely astray. Bell's style may be harsh but he's NOT trying to save people here but shake them out of their delusion. The Bible doesn't warn us about guys like him but those who twist scripture.
yeah, tough to tell. I a former athiest, and I`m so sick of hate. I came back to christianity because I want to love like Jesus Christ and people like Rob Bell reminded me of that kind of love. People like these radio heads would never lead me to Jesus. Its just more hate. I don`t want anymore hate. "Do not speak evil against each other." Thank you God for the Bible for warning us against people like these. God bless Rob Bell, and thank you for him.
So this guy asks people who are changing and expereancing god in new ways if they know beter then 2000 years of biblical scholars... yep. Hmmm i wonder what Jesus had to say about the thousands of years of Scholars before him, or Martin Luther for that matter. Christianity is a living "Breathing" thing, infused with god its ment to mold and change (as god molds it) What worked for the world of our fathers and there fathers... doesnt work today. I for one plan on being efective for my god.
Man gtrjunky...your freaking everywhere. And every time I have seen you, you have been arguing with every christian that thinks differently than you. Why don't you take all that wasted time and put it to something useful. Come on you can't view God from just one perspective...he is just way too big for that. I mean if God is just a book then i have overestimated him big time. Come on try to be a little more open minded.
Really? So I guess that means that everyone is entitled to say whatever they want to about God and it's all valid and true? Where does the bible instruct us to be "open minded"?
The first time Isaac sees Rebekah, who had her nose pierced, in the Bible is when he's meditating in a field. There wasn't a Bible or Christian religion in Isaac's day....I wonder what he was meditating on?
I'm so disappointed that this radio show host call himself a Christian and acts like that. I wonder how many people become Christians listening to him? I wonder how many people become Christians listening to Rob Bell?
I was at the service and the whole point was missed in this "radio show." Just like the host said, he didn't listen to the entire thing, so it may be irresponsible to remark on it. Plus, the Bible discusses God Breathing into us, being our Breath, in Genesis. However, regardless, I don't listen to this radio program, but I hope this is not typical. I hope they discuss faith in God, action in faith, living like Jesus on a regular basis, not just criticizing others, otherwise what's the point?
No, that's called shoving one's own ideas into the text. Jesus NEVER taught this practice, the disciples NEVER taught this practice and it has NEVER been taught throughout church history. This is just more of Bell's man-centered, garbage being passed off as "christianity".
If I lived up there I would come to church at Mars Hill. I just read Velvet Elvis and I loved it.
I told a friend while I was reading it that if someone wanted to they could easily take his words out of context and make it look like he's saying something he's not. I also think a lot of what he says goes over a lot of people's heads, not because those people are dumb, but just because they choose not to think too hard about what he's saying
Or, some undiscerning person could read it and think that it's actually "christian". The people that think Bell's teachings are christian, are not thinking hard enough. They are not willing to yield to scripture for the sake of some "hip" dude with cool glasses that makes "cool" videos.
Tell me what he does that's heretical? Does he not worship Jesus? Does he worship any God other than Jesus?
I have a couple friends who grew up in a certain denomination that I won't name(I'll just say they don't believe worship should be accompanied by organized sound). Both of these guys left because of the legalism and constant judgments made on them. Their families think I'm going to hell because I go to a N.D. church. Rob Bell's the first teacher that's brought them both closer to Jesus
Well, your friend's testimonies really mean nothing. What matters is the truth of scripture as compared to what Bell teaches. If you're like most, it really won't matter because you like him and your mind is made up. (2 Tim.4:3,4)
I can't believe a Christian would tell me my friends' testimonies mean nothing. If that's the Christian way to act then I want to be called something else.
The book of Jasher says that Abraham worshipped God at an early age, and when he saw the sun(and later the moon) he thought surely it was God so he worshipped it. It was later after he'd thought about it he decided those were Gods creations and God is greater. But the whole time it calls him a worshipper of God. Why do you think that is?
The book of Jasher is an historical Jewish text. It's not in the Bible but is mentioned in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18(I may have the verses wrong)
A lot of what bell says in Velvet Elvis isn't so much what he believes, but he's trying to get you to ask yourself hard questions about your faith so you'll know why you believe what you believe so that your faith will be stronger.
Bell's entire premise derails from the start. First, He is NOT doing ANYTHING equivelant to Martin Luther. Luther confronted the "works" based system of the Roman Catholic church with the Finished (faith) based system of the bible. Bell in NO WAY is trying to get anyone to knoe "why" they believe, but to get them into a subjective, feelings based system. If Jesus had a father named "Larry", then our entire faith is WORTHLESS! The O.T. is Clear that Christ was born of a virgin...
thats my point exactly. He's not at all saying that Jesus wasn't born of a virgin. I can definately see how one could come to that conclusion. He's pointing out that if that were true that he'd still follow Jesus teaching and other people who call their selves Christians entire faith would fall apart. He was using an extreme example but he wasn't saying that he believed that.
Bell's theology is completely VOID of the new birth and the depravity of man. His eschatology is based on the idea that "we" as humans are going to make this world into a better place, thus ushering in a better world. Bell also makes NO destinction between the pagan religions of the world and the christian faith. In other words, Bell believes that that all religions are valid.
Here's an example of what I mean. When the KJV was translated, they rearranged chapter breaks and verses in the OT. They also translated certain words not as accurately as they could have in order to make it sound more Christian. Some Christians can't handle that but it's true. I'm still a Christian in spite of that not because of it. I find that when the text is left alone I see Jesus more clearly, and when you understand more Jewish things so much more of the Bible makes sense
You're making a HUGE leap by comparing textual variation to the questioning of doctrinal content. Also, that "myth" about foundational, christian teachings being compared to pagan religions is false. The copied stories of "virgin births" & such came about well after the historical accounts of scripture. Bell propogates this LIE in his video titled "You". Lee Strobel destroys this argument in his book, "the Case for the Real Jesus".
That could be true but by getting worked up over whether or not those pagan religions came first you've missed the point. Bell was saying in spite of those things Jesus teaching was right
Look at what he says about the guy who taught that the universe had to be created in six 24hour days. If the guy found out that weren't true then his entire faith in Jesus would fall apart or he'd be left ignoring the facts and staying ignorant when in reality the scientific truth is something to be embraced
"Faith" is only as good as the object of that faith. If Jesus has an earthly father named "larry" then that means that the word of God is a lie and untrustworthy. Bell is trying to divert man's confidence in God's SURE WORD and rely on subjective, relativistic "feelings".
Incidentally, how i it that you draw all of that out what Bell says in that video, when he NEVER said ANY of that. You are assuming that that's what he meant.
Bell takes the concept of faith and makes "faith" the object of faith as well as making man the object of his faith. His teachings are NOT Christ centered...at least not the Christ of scripture. Bell's "jesus" looks a lot like him. Bell's teachings exalt man and lower God and His SURE word. It's no wonder since Bell see's the bible as a "product of man and not divine fiat". What a blasphemer!
You have still failed to answer my question. Who said that they "rearranged chapter breaks and verses in the OT" and "translated words to make them sound more christian"???
thats another example of what I mean. Some pagan religions DID teach that those gods were born of a virgin and resurrected after being dead 3 days. He's trying to get you to ask yourself if you can still be a Christian after you know that those religions taught those things. Bill Mahar likes to use that to say Christianity isn't real. BILL MAHAR CAN'T HANDLE THAT, but can you? Bell wasn't at all saying that he believes those religions even though they parallel Christianity
If the sub-title of Velvet Elvis didn't raise any red flags, then perhaps you've never been exposed to good, sound doctrine. Bell "thinks" that he's "repainting" the christian faith but in reality, he's re-defining it. Sure he uses all the right terms, but he has entirely different definitions. That vile book does nothing but cast doubt and call into question the sure word of God.
I wanted to mention how we, as Christians, are constantly talking about the deepness and the complexity and the never-ending-ness of who God is. It is IMPOSSIBLE to know Him fully. Yet we insist on boxing God into a small box that says He can only be ONE thing and nothing else. We insist on confining God to a single characteristic and a single practice when He could be anything He wants to be. Just because the Bible does not speak about breathing does not automatically make it evil.
No, God is not "in a box", but in fact we are. It's called Hid "word". God has given us guidlines by which we judge truth from error and guidelines by which we are to have fellowship with Him and " Yoga breathing" excercises aren't one of them. That is a pagan practice from pagan religion. You would do well to re-read
What? breathing is a pagan practice? All Rob Bell is doing in these is simply giving an example. He's not saying that yoga is an acceptable practice. He's not saying that at all. All he's doing is showing that people have understood for ages what breathing can do for you. And obviously, yoga works for people, or they wouldn't do it. Again, i doubt he is saying that it's acceptable. I don't agree with yoga but there is honestly nothing wrong with breathing deeply. There's nothing sinful abut that
rob bell is on crack. there's no other explanation for it.

Where is the love, patience, kindness, gentleness and self-control in that broadcast?
becky4600 1 year ago
Romans 2:1-4 You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet you do the same things, do you think you will escape God's Judgment?
becky4600 1 year ago
@becky4600 Yea, Bell's followers always pull verses out of context to "defend" him. Do you have anything that's in context to support his false teachings?
gtrjunky 1 year ago
@gtrjunky I knew you would be the one to comment. Do you think it pleases God to hear his children speak to each other this way? The evidence of salvation is fruit. Where is your fruit? Matthew 7:18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. And for your information, I am not a Rob Bell follower.
becky4600 1 year ago
@becky4600 Speak to each other what way? Do you think it pleases God to have His holy word maligned by false teachers? As far as "my fruit"??? You don't know me or what I do on a daily basis concerning ministry so to even discuss it is moot. The issue here is about false teachers like Bell and I merely pointed out the fact that most of Bell's "fans" demonstrate their biblical ignorance in their "defense" of him and thus prove why they have been seduced by his false teachings.
gtrjunky 1 year ago
@becky4600 You pulled Romans 2 right out of it's context because it has the word "judge" in it. Paul is talking about hypocritical judgement, i.e. judging others of the very same thing you're guilty of practicing.
You also threw down the "Pharisee" card because other christians are defending the faith (Jude 3,4). Read Titus ch.1 and 2 Tim.2:16-18 and see if the apostle Paul was being a "pharisee".
gtrjunky 1 year ago

1 John 4:7...Todd may know his version of 'doctrine', but he doesn't seem to know God.
binkyluv1 1 year ago
@binkyluv1 Yes because Todd just hates Rob Bell and wishes that he were dead... (sarcasm). Have you ever read that we are to test the spirits? Is it hate that Todd is trying to expose false doctrine because of it's danger to the Church, and even the unsaved? No, but it takes more love to tell people that they are listening to lies than to sit by and allow them to be fooled. Hopefully you see this too. Anyone who cares about God will defend his word, maybe you should start doing the same.
HDell1994 1 year ago
@HDell1994 Jesus is the Word of God and when Peter tried to 'defend' Him, Peter was rebuked. Truth is. it needs no defense. what we 'defend' is our own fear, shame, pride, etc... when we simply and deeply know, (beyond the mind and intellect), defensiveness falls away and melts into faith and trust and we hear the still small voice of Love.
binkyluv1 1 year ago
@binkyluv1 Listen, although I disagree with the way he went about it, and believe that he could've done it in a MUCH more loving and mature way, like I said before, the substance of Todd's logic was not biblically incorrect and Bell's logic was. No, I don't encourage going around finding sermons to critique BUT there IS a way to address an issue such as this in a loving manner that benefits both Bell and the Church of God. So yes, love MAY have been lacking in this vid, but the logic was correct
HDell1994 1 year ago

This is one of the most not-chrisitian programs in a christian vein I have heard.Contemplative prayer is not heresy because it is about centering your focus onCHRIST.As far as meditating I'm fairly sure Rob Bell is referring to Meditatingon scripture, which is in fact BIBLICAL.He's wasting more breath skepticizing than sharing Christ with people.
andypops89 1 year ago
@andypops89 Meditating on scripture? He said verbatim, "I wonder sometimes when you feel as though God is far, God is thinking, "I gave you breathing, I can't get closer." Come on, you have to admit it, Bell hasn't once implied that you should meditate on scripture while breathing but *only* implied that we should devote periods of time to breathing. Honestly, meditations and reflections are good things that Christians should do. Silence I guess isn't the worse either, but really... breathing???

And what Rob Bell has to say about Nooma and breath is so powerful, they're taking bits and pieces out so they can laugh at it. SOO christian of them.
Justica4all 1 year ago
The only Jesus anyone who isn't a believer is going to see is us collectively and individually. If they see Christians attacking each other, they see a Christ divided (which is not an accurate representation). Likewise, if they see us being hateful, they see a hateful Christ (which is equally wrong). We aren't perfect, but we can at least try to show the world a Jesus who came to save them. Am I wrong in asking this? Perhaps naïve, but I have always tried seeing the best in people.
Sylus1981 1 year ago

He's such a nut." We can correct people without being malicious about it which is ultimately all I'm asking. I'm not asking you to believe Rob Bell. I take man's words worth a grain of salt unless God reveals himself through their words.
Sylus1981 1 year ago
I could ask, but I know he DID love them which is why he took it upon himself to try to correct them and save them from God's judgment.
Sylus1981 1 year ago
Also, for the record, I have a lot of similar views with Paul (one example is when I said Jesus died for all, though that view is nothing special). Some, however, I don't agree with (women not being able to teach was more of the time they were in, I feel).
Sylus1981 1 year ago
I have read them. I will agree that my statement was in the wrong about how if he brings them to God, what's the problem? There is a problem with false teachings, yes.
But you missed the point of what I was saying. Our priority is to love one another, faults and all, because we're all stumbling around and still learning. So instead of bashing Rob Bell and taking a few cheap shots, why not be constructive? Why not be helpful instead of spiteful?
Sylus1981 1 year ago
@Sylus1981 I guess you could ask the apostle Paul that same question. Why did he "bash" the Judaizers? Why did he "bash" Hymenaeus and Philetus? Why didn't he just "love" them?
gtrjunky 1 year ago
Also, just one more thing to think about. This is about the breathing exercises calming children who don't follow Christ delivered by people who don't follow Christ.
Did Jesus hang on the cross for everyone? Or just a select few? Didn't He die so that ALL can find salvation and redemption and forgiveness? Who's to say that those children weren't taking comfort in the God they've been raised to doubt?
Sylus1981 1 year ago
I'm just going to say this: 1 Corinthians 1:10-13.
I don't follow Rob Bell. I follow Christ Jesus. This Radio-Show is just sad, though. Not pathetic-sad, but seriously disheartening. Why must we hate each other when we are ALL TRYING TO DO THE SAME THING? People respond to Rob Bell. And if he brings people to God, the ultimate Truth, why fight over semantics?
How long before we realize attacking each other is nothing more than genocidal suicide?
Think about it... V_V

kerr628 1 year ago
God's good news is about love and redemption in this life and eternally. It is both about people who choose to follow Jesus believing in how faith in his cross has renewed us with God and gives us eternal life, as well as a gospel that is good news for the marginalized in this world. The phrase wholistic gospel or complete gospel comes from this. Somewhere along the line someone decided these 2 things were mutually exclusive. The reality is that if not together the other looses integrity...
kerr628 1 year ago
Without the cross you have an empty "social gospel" and without sacrificial love for your neighbor you have an empty religion. When i read the Gospels, Acts and Paul I see evidence of a movement that was deeply rooted in both. I see a community of people who shared everything they had with eachother and poor and ended poverty around them (Acts 2: 32-34). And I see a good news in the form of Jesus teaching he is the true vine who offer eternal life to those who believe in him (john 15)...
kerr628 1 year ago
Also the good news about a God incarnating himself as a human to save the world because he loved it so deeply (john 1 and John 3:16) The reality is that the good news lacks integrity when it is fragmented. The implications of how Jesus lived, and how he died and came back to life is the true and whole good news.

N2truth7 2 years ago

& and it's also hilarious, because instead of continuing evangelism, these pastors spend their time rambling nervously on radio shows, to try and superglue their fabricated rock back together, and fight Rob Bell.. as if Jesus would do this. The paladins of money will hold their ground, but love wins, God's love will shine through your logic of individual comfort.

How have you provided any argument against what I proposed? You have completely overlooked it. You're stuck in the obsolete mindset that was instilled in you as you were raised. So by saying Jesus get's pissed, you mean that he's representing a sometimes angry god? So tell me, what does Rob Bell teach that is creating distance between those who listen to him, and God? That's like saying, you can't repent and give your heart and life to Elohim, but if you don't believe in Hell, too bad, can't go to heaven. psh
MarkToTheSky 1 year ago
@MarkToTheSky You base your faith on your ability to put yourself in a giving mindset and the Bible's ability to instruct you on how to do that?? So in other words, your salvation is based on what you do?? You make no mention of the cross or the empty tomb. Well, you ask what Rob Bell teaches that creates distance between those who listen to him and God?? You answered that with your response to me.
MackLeeGreen 1 year ago
@MackLeeGreen & is it not enough to acknowledge the divinity of these things? Yes I'm fully aware in my heart of the great martyrdom, & the empty tomb. But even without these things, I am a puppet for the lord. What are you doing to perpetuate your faith? So constantly bringing up the cross, virgin birth, & resurrection gives you salvation? but not living the way Jesus instructed us to? So you can hold all those holy instances, and be a terrible person. No.
MarkToTheSky 1 year ago
@MarkToTheSky Yet another straw-man argument. I never said works were not important. Find one post where I did. By asking me what I am doing to perpetuate my faith you show that you really don't understand the Gospel. The only reason I can do any good works is because Christ is daily making of me a new creation and working through me. Good works flow from faith. It's not the other way around.
MackLeeGreen 1 year ago
@MarkToTheSky This specious that you and Rob Bell hold to is simply a matter of placing yourself over the authority of God's Word when you are not comfortable with it. I got news for you. Jesus does not call us to a life of sunshine and roses. In John 17 we are warned that the world will hate us.
MackLeeGreen 1 year ago
@MarkToTheSky Your's and Bells specious logic presumes that God has not revealed Himself to us, but if you would put down "Velvet Elvis" and actually read the Bible you would see that He has. Hebrews 1, declares that in Christ we see the exact representation of God's being. And that includes the Jesus who got pissed off.
MackLeeGreen 1 year ago

MackLeeGreen 1 year ago

There are no personal attacks here, it's about the lying, false teachings that are under fire here.

seems to me Jesus said otherwise in John 16 (them Red words)
seems to me that is faulty doctrine there, as the law was around for thousands of years before than. but of course 1 out of 1 is not one, and Jesus flunked biology also so who really knows we need that general knowledge.

"berating another pastor?" No, exposing a wolf in sheep's clothing.

I agree with you Wally :)
In my experience - the Fruit of Love really ministers strong :) Peace out
mikelvanV 2 years ago
So your personal experience is how truth is defined? Where does the bible say that using the law must be lead by the Spirit? Was it not the Spirit who authored the word (despite Bell's heretical saying that the bible is a human product and not the product of divine fiat)???...along with all of his other heretical teachings.
Ogdinthorpe 2 years ago
to those of you at WOTM radio If you disagree with Pastor Bell that is fine but it makes you look foolish to broadcast your criticisms and put downs openly like that. that is the sort of things that tell an unbelieving world that Christianity is full of idiots. the power of life and death are in the tongue. it's embarrassing to hear fellow believers ridiculing those they disagree with within the body of Christ. what kind of example are you setting for a lost and dying world. read 1st John again
Wallyscruggs 2 years ago
No, it doesn't. It lets the world know that not everything that pretends to be "christianity" really is. It's good that we have ministries that make a distinction between that which is true and that which is false. 1 John is great! It tells believers to TEST and see what is from God.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
I'm turned off by the tone.
btw, I was looking for the full-length video of Rob Bell's Nooma " Breathe" which I saw awhile back and got me doing a 180 in my feelings about the man. He is definitely New Agish and if you listen closely you'll probably agree. Same for all his videos but nothing quite like "Breathe"
SantaBarbaraDianne 2 years ago

God bless Rob Bell, and thank you for him.
ddykema82834 2 years ago

Come on try to be a little more open minded.
oDTRAINo 2 years ago

I wonder how many people become Christians listening to Rob Bell?
tchristian04 2 years ago
I was at the service and the whole point was missed in this "radio show." Just like the host said, he didn't listen to the entire thing, so it may be irresponsible to remark on it. Plus, the Bible discusses God Breathing into us, being our Breath, in Genesis. However, regardless, I don't listen to this radio program, but I hope this is not typical. I hope they discuss faith in God, action in faith, living like Jesus on a regular basis, not just criticizing others, otherwise what's the point?
genzaichi 2 years ago
No, that's called shoving one's own ideas into the text. Jesus NEVER taught this practice, the disciples NEVER taught this practice and it has NEVER been taught throughout church history. This is just more of Bell's man-centered, garbage being passed off as "christianity".

If I lived up there I would come to church at Mars Hill. I just read Velvet Elvis and I loved it.
I told a friend while I was reading it that if someone wanted to they could easily take his words out of context and make it look like he's saying something he's not. I also think a lot of what he says goes over a lot of people's heads, not because those people are dumb, but just because they choose not to think too hard about what he's saying
tchristian04 2 years ago
Or, some undiscerning person could read it and think that it's actually "christian". The people that think Bell's teachings are christian, are not thinking hard enough. They are not willing to yield to scripture for the sake of some "hip" dude with cool glasses that makes "cool" videos.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
Tell me what he does that's heretical? Does he not worship Jesus? Does he worship any God other than Jesus?
I have a couple friends who grew up in a certain denomination that I won't name(I'll just say they don't believe worship should be accompanied by organized sound). Both of these guys left because of the legalism and constant judgments made on them. Their families think I'm going to hell because I go to a N.D. church. Rob Bell's the first teacher that's brought them both closer to Jesus
tchristian04 2 years ago
Well, your friend's testimonies really mean nothing. What matters is the truth of scripture as compared to what Bell teaches. If you're like most, it really won't matter because you like him and your mind is made up. (2 Tim.4:3,4)
gtrjunky 2 years ago
I can't believe a Christian would tell me my friends' testimonies mean nothing. If that's the Christian way to act then I want to be called something else.
The book of Jasher says that Abraham worshipped God at an early age, and when he saw the sun(and later the moon) he thought surely it was God so he worshipped it. It was later after he'd thought about it he decided those were Gods creations and God is greater. But the whole time it calls him a worshipper of God. Why do you think that is?
tchristian04 2 years ago
The "book of Jasher"??? Is that the in the Old testament or the New testament?
Yes, testimonies are a subjective, human experience and NOT equatable with the word of God.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
The book of Jasher is an historical Jewish text. It's not in the Bible but is mentioned in Joshua 10:13 and 2 Samuel 1:18(I may have the verses wrong)
A lot of what bell says in Velvet Elvis isn't so much what he believes, but he's trying to get you to ask yourself hard questions about your faith so you'll know why you believe what you believe so that your faith will be stronger.
tchristian04 2 years ago
Bell's entire premise derails from the start. First, He is NOT doing ANYTHING equivelant to Martin Luther. Luther confronted the "works" based system of the Roman Catholic church with the Finished (faith) based system of the bible. Bell in NO WAY is trying to get anyone to knoe "why" they believe, but to get them into a subjective, feelings based system. If Jesus had a father named "Larry", then our entire faith is WORTHLESS! The O.T. is Clear that Christ was born of a virgin...
gtrjunky 2 years ago
thats my point exactly. He's not at all saying that Jesus wasn't born of a virgin. I can definately see how one could come to that conclusion. He's pointing out that if that were true that he'd still follow Jesus teaching and other people who call their selves Christians entire faith would fall apart. He was using an extreme example but he wasn't saying that he believed that.
tchristian04 2 years ago
Bell's theology is completely VOID of the new birth and the depravity of man. His eschatology is based on the idea that "we" as humans are going to make this world into a better place, thus ushering in a better world. Bell also makes NO destinction between the pagan religions of the world and the christian faith. In other words, Bell believes that that all religions are valid.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
Here's an example of what I mean. When the KJV was translated, they rearranged chapter breaks and verses in the OT. They also translated certain words not as accurately as they could have in order to make it sound more Christian. Some Christians can't handle that but it's true. I'm still a Christian in spite of that not because of it. I find that when the text is left alone I see Jesus more clearly, and when you understand more Jewish things so much more of the Bible makes sense
tchristian04 2 years ago
Uh, who said that the KJ translation has the chapter breaks "re-arranged"? There were no chapters or verses in the original manuscripts.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
There weren't in the original scrolls but there were when it was cannonized
tchristian04 2 years ago
You're making a HUGE leap by comparing textual variation to the questioning of doctrinal content. Also, that "myth" about foundational, christian teachings being compared to pagan religions is false. The copied stories of "virgin births" & such came about well after the historical accounts of scripture. Bell propogates this LIE in his video titled "You". Lee Strobel destroys this argument in his book, "the Case for the Real Jesus".
gtrjunky 2 years ago
That could be true but by getting worked up over whether or not those pagan religions came first you've missed the point. Bell was saying in spite of those things Jesus teaching was right
Look at what he says about the guy who taught that the universe had to be created in six 24hour days. If the guy found out that weren't true then his entire faith in Jesus would fall apart or he'd be left ignoring the facts and staying ignorant when in reality the scientific truth is something to be embraced
tchristian04 2 years ago
"Faith" is only as good as the object of that faith. If Jesus has an earthly father named "larry" then that means that the word of God is a lie and untrustworthy. Bell is trying to divert man's confidence in God's SURE WORD and rely on subjective, relativistic "feelings".
Incidentally, how i it that you draw all of that out what Bell says in that video, when he NEVER said ANY of that. You are assuming that that's what he meant.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
Bell takes the concept of faith and makes "faith" the object of faith as well as making man the object of his faith. His teachings are NOT Christ centered...at least not the Christ of scripture. Bell's "jesus" looks a lot like him. Bell's teachings exalt man and lower God and His SURE word. It's no wonder since Bell see's the bible as a "product of man and not divine fiat". What a blasphemer!
gtrjunky 2 years ago
You have still failed to answer my question. Who said that they "rearranged chapter breaks and verses in the OT" and "translated words to make them sound more christian"???
gtrjunky 2 years ago
rabbi tovia singer
tchristian04 2 years ago
thats another example of what I mean. Bell wasn't at all saying that he believes those religions even though they parallel Christianity
tchristian04 2 years ago
If the sub-title of Velvet Elvis didn't raise any red flags, then perhaps you've never been exposed to good, sound doctrine. Bell "thinks" that he's "repainting" the christian faith but in reality, he's re-defining it. Sure he uses all the right terms, but he has entirely different definitions. That vile book does nothing but cast doubt and call into question the sure word of God.
gtrjunky 2 years ago
people believe this stuff? total brainwashing. total. Period.
rotterdamblues 2 years ago
I wanted to mention how we, as Christians, are constantly talking about the deepness and the complexity and the never-ending-ness of who God is. It is IMPOSSIBLE to know Him fully. Yet we insist on boxing God into a small box that says He can only be ONE thing and nothing else. We insist on confining God to a single characteristic and a single practice when He could be anything He wants to be. Just because the Bible does not speak about breathing does not automatically make it evil.
StriveC28 2 years ago
No, God is not "in a box", but in fact we are. It's called Hid "word". God has given us guidlines by which we judge truth from error and guidelines by which we are to have fellowship with Him and " Yoga breathing" excercises aren't one of them. That is a pagan practice from pagan religion. You would do well to re-read
C2:8
gtrjunky 2 years ago
What? breathing is a pagan practice? All Rob Bell is doing in these is simply giving an example. He's not saying that yoga is an acceptable practice. He's not saying that at all. All he's doing is showing that people have understood for ages what breathing can do for you. And obviously, yoga works for people, or they wouldn't do it. Again, i doubt he is saying that it's acceptable. I don't agree with yoga but there is honestly nothing wrong with breathing deeply. There's nothing sinful abut that
StriveC28 2 years ago
