For all you fans of the SFJAZZ Collective, their new Jack Conte produced video for Stevie Wonder's "Visions" is now up on our SFJAZZOnline YouTube channel!
why is it that the most famous "musicians" have less talent than every single guy in this video? and yet 99% of people will never even hear of these guys. why does it seem that pop music has completely lost sight of any importance of musicianship? these guys are just awesome.
@TurboNeon185 Different people, different tastes. E.g. are you a fan of Joyce, or more a Ludlum or Grisham person? do you prefer the Bolshoi Ballet or Mats Eck over Michael Jackson, or Michael Flatley ('Riverdance')? Le Corbusier or the 'average' architect/'designer'? So, don't fret, because being a connoisseur is less purposeful choice and more a consequence of upbringing. And, perhaps because of this, aesthetic judgment is fundamentally 'external' to reason and argument.
@Kirchenschlager I can see the ziljian FX on top but I cant see what the bottom one is. Its really popular in modern drummer. we call it a stack or a stacker.
i just wrote the comment below, and thought i'd said enough-- when the alto player went into atonal(?) -"free" improv space... i feel like this might be the jazz/music of the future, it's so unbelievably GREAT...! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!
Cant believe the musicians are talking in the beginning of the performance. I understand that they may need to discuss the tune but way to many people are doing this. Besides that this is f**King Awesome!. The talking sounds alright when i think of it as part of the music anyways. And the video is amazing!!!!!! Thanks for all your hard work everyone. Im sure i will give this a thousand listens.
.......Okay... a marimba is a percussion instrument consisting of a set of WOODEN keys or bars. A vibraphone is a percussion instrument consisting of aluminum keys or bars and has a pedal along with a motor. So with that information what do you see in the shot...at you didn't call it a xylophone........Anyways I seriously have to listen to this everyday and I am about to buy the album.
wait if you listen really close during the marimba solo from like 4:00 to 4:40 you can hear a voice int he background playing what he's playing. funny
like a buddy of mine said, "it's like cutting all the figures out of the original "last supper" and shuffling them around, gluing them back together with some of them in position to f--k each other." not grooving AT ALL. i love each one of these musicians, too - but this isn't happening. people are to afraid to say it BECAUSE they are all such great players.
@bigbandman70 You're entitled to your opinion, that's fine--but I don't think people are "afraid to say it," because chances are most of the people who've watched and left feedback, myself included, are being honest. This is the Internet, where nobody's afraid to say anything, and dissent is often accompanied by a slew of expletives. (Thank you for being civil, BTW.) You happen to have an opinion different than most here, but you can't speak on the behalf of others or assume anyone is lying.
@SuperMegaPeanut Except for the fact that there are no marimbas present. That is a vibraphone. He does seem to possess the boss-like talent people have come to expect though.
This is the dirtiest arrangement of anything I've ever heard. The reharms are killin, the writing overall is just disgusting. It's so awesome. I could listen to it over and over and not get tired of it.
so far, 14 people that have disliked, they obviously don't know how to listen. This is amazing interpretation of a great song, made into a lush adventure!
that was awesome, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. I am however a little confused as to why this is on Jack Conte's channel. What was his involvement? Thanks in advance.
