  • Avishai Cohen on trumpet??

  • love the recording method... vary reminiscent of the days when they recorded a whole band with one mic but with more clarity... great job jack!!!

  • can anyone hear the vibraphonist singing his part while he plays? making sure im not crazy @.@

  • yeah stefon harris is tearing it up

  • For all you fans of the SFJAZZ Collective, their new Jack Conte produced video for Stevie Wonder's "Visions" is now up on our SFJAZZOnline YouTube channel!

  • Stefon Harris... incredible

  • Absolutely blown away.

  • Looking forward to their show in March 2012!

  • hell yeah miguel

  • Melody is beautifully harmonised by those chords in the intro. Would've been nice to amplify the bass a little more.

  • i just jazzed a little

  • oh damn eric harland is just THE man. keeping jazz drumming alive and hot!!

  • this isn't just great... these guys bring out a whole other dimension to Stevie Wonder's music... that's really something HUGE!

  • come on eric harland, real 3d glasses...

  • Killer. I have watched this so many times!

  • Awesome!

  • vibraphone guy=simply amazing..and I like the humming of what he is playing

  • Eubanks is rockin the Jupiter XO. That's a classy horn, I've had my mine for five months now and think the world of it.

  • Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel Miguel

  • avishai is the man!!!!!

  • i wanted there to be a drum solo so bad.

  • why is it that the most famous "musicians" have less talent than every single guy in this video? and yet 99% of people will never even hear of these guys. why does it seem that pop music has completely lost sight of any importance of musicianship? these guys are just awesome.

  • @TurboNeon185 Different people, different tastes. E.g. are you a fan of Joyce, or more a Ludlum or Grisham person? do you prefer the Bolshoi Ballet or Mats Eck over Michael Jackson, or Michael Flatley ('Riverdance')? Le Corbusier or the 'average' architect/'designer'? So, don't fret, because being a connoisseur is less purposeful choice and more a consequence of upbringing. And, perhaps because of this, aesthetic judgment is fundamentally 'external' to reason and argument.

  • holy sh*t...2:58. lol

  • what......is that stacker!!!!!!!!! I need it

  • "Playing the marimba LIKE A BOSS"

    Haters take aim....... Fire!

  • what the hell kind of... ride cymbal is that? it sounds like theres another cymbal right on top of it to give it a trashy sound?

  • @Kirchenschlager That's exactly what it is, he has that for that real trashy effect

  • @Kirchenschlager I can see the ziljian FX on top but I cant see what the bottom one is. Its really popular in modern drummer. we call it a stack or a stacker.

  • Miguel Zenon in the house.

  • 5:06 i see 3D cinema glasses logo......

  • i just wrote the comment below, and thought i'd said enough-- when the alto player went into atonal(?) -"free" improv space... i feel like this might be the jazz/music of the future, it's so unbelievably GREAT...! THANK YOU FOR POSTING!

  • Super Uber Funk, Love It!

  • This is the best version of Superstition I have ever heard.

  • i was hoping from the thumbnail there would be a sweet vibe solo... then there was... awesome!

  • 2:57... oh my god.....incredible

  • c'est un must ce morceau ! j'adore,,jolie

  • Cant believe the musicians are talking in the beginning of the performance. I understand that they may need to discuss the tune but way to many people are doing this. Besides that this is f**King Awesome!. The talking sounds alright when i think of it as part of the music anyways. And the video is amazing!!!!!! Thanks for all your hard work everyone. Im sure i will give this a thousand listens.

  • saw this live at The Jazz Standard in NYC last April.... Miguel was in BEAST MODE.

  • JACK YOU ARE A FREAKING HERO FOR RECORDING THIS AT WHAT I THINK (FOR OTHER VIDEO SOURCES) ITS YOUR BASEMENT. YOU ROCK!!!!!.....wait no, YOU JAZZZZZ

  • Amazing! :-)))

  • he's wearing 3d-glasses, lol

  • .......Okay... a marimba is a percussion instrument consisting of a set of WOODEN keys or bars. A vibraphone is a percussion instrument consisting of aluminum keys or bars and has a pedal along with a motor. So with that information what do you see in the shot...at you didn't call it a xylophone........Anyways I seriously have to listen to this everyday and I am about to buy the album.

  • Just HAD to buy this album after seeing this 3 times in a row, haha!

  • Cool, I see his name her, haha!

    Really nice

  • 5:54

This horn lick is basically the hippest shit ever.

  • They played at my college a week ago... Best live concert ive ever been to.

  • The drum riff is the grooviest thing I´ve ever heard

  • Just saw these guys live literally like an hour ago. Loved every second of it.

  • Oh My GOD! What is This ?

    Monster, monster ,monster!

    Congratulations! very good

  • yeah thats a vibraphone. and stefon came and played for our school, and he sings along with all of his solos, its interesting

  • @Krazeylogan16 OH MY GOD are you serious? what city?

  • This is awesome! sounds a little bit like Zappa does Zappa...

  • I saw Stefon Harris live, he was so inspirational.

  • Woah! So complicated! So creative and colorful!

  • One of the best things I've seen on youtube, thx for sharing

  • it´s vibes!!! not marimba ¬¬

  • wait if you listen really close during the marimba solo from like 4:00 to 4:40 you can hear a voice int he background playing what he's playing. funny

  • AGH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • GUYS! The thumb down aint the download button!

  • agreed with @bigbandman70 . Great players, but weak sauce. Someone's gotta say it

  • like a buddy of mine said, "it's like cutting all the figures out of the original "last supper" and shuffling them around, gluing them back together with some of them in position to f--k each other." not grooving AT ALL. i love each one of these musicians, too - but this isn't happening. people are to afraid to say it BECAUSE they are all such great players.

  • @bigbandman70 Fair enough, man. Least you stated your opinion properly, instead of shouting obscenities at the video.

  • @bigbandman70 You're entitled to your opinion, that's fine--but I don't think people are "afraid to say it," because chances are most of the people who've watched and left feedback, myself included, are being honest. This is the Internet, where nobody's afraid to say anything, and dissent is often accompanied by a slew of expletives. (Thank you for being civil, BTW.) You happen to have an opinion different than most here, but you can't speak on the behalf of others or assume anyone is lying.

  • @NeutralNewt I'm not necessarily speaking on anyone's behalf and assuming folks here are lying. Those who aren't saying it simply aren't commenting.

  • Very good drummer. Also compliments for the piano player: Top Quality; world class band!

  • G D! This arrangement is so boss.!

  • miguel zenon reminds me of Joshua Redman

  • If you don't like this, you must have no pulse!!

  • agree with mherb25 .

if you dont like this you need a hearing aid!!!

  • ohhh, THAT Avishai Cohen. I was so confused

  • And this, is why I play trombone.

  • I wish Eric Harland was my dad.

  • This is an awesome mix, credit to Jack for recording such a spacious track. As for the players, well, my brains are on the floor.

  • love the drum lick on this!

  • I keep coming back to this video! it is so freekin good!!!

  • Nice. I like this kind of jazz. What would this particular sub-genere be called?

  • @jjtyler21 Good music, I guess...

  • Grab the audio from this song at soundnabber doht cohm.

  • the phrase at 4:25 gave me a huge grin.

  • Eric Harland is such a BOSS!

  • If you listen close, the guy on vibes is singing his solo.

  • @NeroStrike proving hes not hitting any random shit. this guy knows what he wants to play EXACTLY,

    what a bastard

  • Damn!!!

  • Playing the Marimba LIKE A BOSS

  • @SuperMegaPeanut Thats a vibraphone

  • @SuperMegaPeanut Except for the fact that there are no marimbas present. That is a vibraphone. He does seem to possess the boss-like talent people have come to expect though.

  • @SuperMegaPeanut

    no. it should be

playing the vibraphone LIKE A BOSS :)

  • @SuperMegaPeanut I didn't know marimbas looked like vibes.

  • superawesome!

  • I can't listen to most jazz, but this was a great rendition of a great song :D

  • No wonder Miguel Zenon won the MacArthur genius grant.

  • This is the dirtiest arrangement of anything I've ever heard. The reharms are killin, the writing overall is just disgusting. It's so awesome. I could listen to it over and over and not get tired of it.

  • so freakin' unbelievably hip!

  • Is that the bass player that plays with aaron parks?

  • @sean33313 yes! you must listen james farm proyect whit erick harland, aaron parks, mat penman, and, ooh yea... JOSHUA REDMAN!!!

  • Eric Harland!! Such a beast, his feel is so great.

  • holy nugget! :O

  • what are those moving parts on the marimba?

  • @DJ0KNUF I believe thats a vibraphone so what you see moving are the motors for the vibrato or tremolo controls.

  • oha...wtf...fantastic play...thx for this..

  • There are two Avishai Cohens, easily confused!

  • avishai cohen on trumpet? first thought: "good joke lol"

  • I always knew, Superstition was a "cool jazz" song.

Keep it swinging. Thumbs up, if u like cool!

  • MIGUEL ZENON!!!

  • One of the best covers i've ever heard

  • Wow, thats so slick and cool. Great job...

  • so far, 14 people that have disliked, they obviously don't know how to listen. This is amazing interpretation of a great song, made into a lush adventure!

  • I feel so insignificant after watching this! Amazing players.

  • Eargasm.

  • I love how the vibrophonist is singing along with his solo!

  • im going to see matt penman and eric harland with aaron parks and joshua redman today its gonna be amazing!!

  • that was awesome, I really thoroughly enjoyed it. I am however a little confused as to why this is on Jack Conte's channel. What was his involvement? Thanks in advance.

  • @amerbritcan

    Read the comments?

"Audio Production & Video Editing by Jack Conte"

  • Pretty sure I've watched/listened to this about ten times today.

  • This is what happens when a group of seasoned musicians get together

  • 13 rebecca black fans

  • The drummer is so unfairly last in the list. That was some uberexpresive stuff!

  • GREAT MIX...NICE! REALLY NICE

  • Don Miller says it best: You don't really appreciate jazz music until you see other people enjoying it. I just gained a lot of respect for jazz.

  • Nice vibes!

  • oooooohhhhhhhhhhhhh beeeeeeeeeee bravoooo :))))

  • This is a great version of the song, but I found someone who did a cover of the same song and he also sounds great, check him out, I think he deserves some attention too.

    watch?v=MWOMBX7nV3E

  • How can someone possibly dislike this...?

  • Very good, but I feel like some of the instruments are panned too much to the right.

  • Vibes player is a F####n beast!

  • These guys are great! Really love the arrangement!

  • So much emotion in this music, its amazing.

  • jack conte is a fucking genius. I admire your sound!!

  • all stars!

  • Good job. Nice arrangement, very good sound recording quality. Also nice pictures, I like the split screen shots here and there. Also like the fact that they filmed hands rather than faces.

  • @mherb25 or blind to talent :') ... im sorry

  • @mherb25 No one is a rebecca black fan :)

  • Must be the same 13 people with painted on ears that disliked Jack's Mario Bros theme. Tighter than a dolphins bumhole. Class.

  • @gfunkasaurus made me laugh out loud

  • Again, must be the same 13 people with painted on ears as disliked Mr. Conte's mario bros theme.
